Chapter 1 - A proposal from the monster

Staring at the sky, Luna smiled brightly as she thought of how nice it would be to watch the sky from outside. She wished she was given the freedom to see the outside world, but she was never granted the freedom to do so.

Sighing softly, she went back and sat on her bed. She was like that for what seemed like a long time to her, but nevertheless was only a short time.

She stood up again and decided to do something meaningful with her time. She went to her little study room she had created since her room was enormous.

There was a wooden chair and in front of a table, the table was neatly arranged with a pile of books arranged on it. She took her seat and ran her fingers on the pile of books, she did this three times and finally got the book she wanted to read.

"If only I could explore the outside world," She murmured in dissatisfaction, she had read all the books several times and was tired of reading them all over again, she knew the stories in her heart.

A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts, "Finally," She thought and stood up from her seat, carefully, she put back the novel she had brought out into its place. She smiled in satisfaction and walked away.

She opened the door and found Rosa, her personal maid, waiting for her.

"It's time for the meeting, Princess," Rosa said and gave a slight bow.

"I'm ready," Luna replied with a smile and came out of her room. "Can we go now?" She asked, without a response, she started heading towards the hall, where the meeting was to be held.

When she got there, her whole family, except her sister Maia, was not present. Maia was always coming late to family meetings, she was always the one who delayed the meetings.

"Why is Maia not here father?" Luna asked as she took her seat at the first roll. Her younger brother, Adler, didn't seem to be bothered by anything. He hated family meetings and thought it was weird for a sixteen-year-old boy to attend family meetings.

"Who cares whether she's here or not," He mumbled loud enough for the entire family to hear.

"Watch your tone young man," Queen Evenin snapped, the young boy grumbled but kept quiet.

I counted to a hundred if Maia was going to come, but she didn't. I did two hundred, three hundred, but she still had not come.

"She's always the last to attend this boring meet-'' Adler was cut short by Queen Evenin.

"One more word from you young man, and you'd be grounded!" She warned sternly, and Adler finally kept quiet. Finally, Maia came in.

"Oh, finally," I heard Adler say as he heaved a sigh of relief.

"I'm sorry, everyone!" Maia said as she walked hastily, she took her seat beside Queen Evenin. "I had to quickly finish a song that-" She was cut short by King Ezell who looked tired.

"That's enough," He said, Maia forced a smile at him even though she was embarrassed.

"Can we begin the meeting since everyone is present now?" A frustrated Adler asked.

"As we all know, Maia is old enough to get married,"

"If the meeting will be about my marriage, I'm not interested in that father," Maia said and abruptly stood up from her seat, something I would never do or else I would be punished.

"You're not getting younger Maia," Queen Evenin said, trying to console Maia. I watched the drama in front of me with disinterest, truly, Maia was old enough to get married. She was already twenty-three years old, while I was nineteen.

"Marriage is a choice mother, you can't force me to marry someone I don't love," Maia said.

"I have chosen a husband from you, he'll be coming in four days to get married to you," King Ezell said without feeling concerned about Maia.

"What?!" We were all shocked at what he said, Maia was getting married in four days? I looked at Maia's facial expressions, she also seemed to be in shock, it was as if the news of her getting married was kept a secret from her.

"Ezell," the Queen walked over to him, she was also shocked. "What are you doing Ezell? You can't just find a husband in secret for her, she has to be the one to find a husband herself!"

"Since she wouldn't find a husband herself, a suitor found her," King Ezell replied, Luna was staring at her father with mixed feelings.

King Ezell didn't look happy at the news, instead there was a sad expression on his face, which piqued Luna's interest.

"Is everything alright, father?" Luna asked, King Ezell turned to her, he forced a smile at her, but Luna didn't buy it.

"Go and get yourself ready," he said.

"I'm doing no such thing!" Maia yelled, tears were streaming down her face. Luna stared at her sister, Maia was an epitome of beauty. Everything about her was just so perfect that Luna couldn't help but feel jealous.

Unlike Maia and Adler, Luna had dark raven hair, she had baby blue eyes. But Adler and Maia's hair was brown and they both had emerald eyes, these were the features of Queen Evenin.

She was always wondering if the queen was truly her mother because she didn't look like her, the only resemblance she had of her father was his eyes. Once, she had asked her father, the king, if queen Evenin was her mother, he had asked her to provide her mother if she had doubts about Queen Evening being her mother.

"Is the meeting over?" Adler asked.

"Yes," King Ezell replied and stood up from his seat, Maia was still crying.

"Why father? Why would you secretly arrange a marriage without letting me know about it?" Maia asked, but King Ezell didn't give a response to her, his silence seemed to arouse her anger.

"You know she isn't ready for any marriage Ezell, you could have refused the suitor,"

"I should refuse a monster?" King Ezell asked, his family didn't seem to understand what he meant.

"What do you mean by 'monster' father?" Luna asked.

"The monster of Golgotha had asked for one of my daughters!"
