Chapter 6 - chapter 6

Shadows of the Basement

Xiao was thrown into the cold, damp basement, the heavy iron door slamming shut behind him. The faint light from a small, barred window barely illuminated the room. It smelled of mildew, blood, and despair. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, Xiao noticed faint movements in the shadows. He wasn't alone.

Several others were imprisoned with him, each shackled and wounded. Among them, a boy with strikingly calm eyes caught his attention. The boy sat against the wall, his hands bound, his face pale but resolute. Xiao approached him cautiously.

"Why are you here?" Xiao asked softly, his voice echoing in the silence.

The boy smiled faintly, though his lips were cracked, and his expression weary. "I'm Bai. Bao's brother."

Xiao froze. "Bao's brother?" he repeated in disbelief. "But you're part of their family! How could they do this to you?"

Bai's faint smile turned bitter. "Family? To them, I'm nothing more than a disgrace. My father believed in kindness and helping others. He raised us to care for people, but the Shi Ling Clan sees such values as weakness. They punish us for showing compassion or disobedience. To them, I'm a traitor, just like my sister Bao."

Xiao clenched his fists, anger flaring in his chest. "They're monsters," he muttered.

Bai shrugged. "That's how they maintain power. By breaking anyone who dares to think differently."

Despite his injuries, Bai had a calm and gentle demeanor. As they spoke, Xiao learned more about him. Bai had been locked away for refusing to harm innocent villagers during a raid. Xiao couldn't help but admire his courage and resilience.

After hours of quiet conversation, Bai managed to pick the lock on Xiao's handcuffs using a bent nail he had hidden. Though Xiao was free of his chains, he didn't attempt to escape. He knew it wasn't the right time.

Over the following days, Bai became a loyal companion. Though still shackled, he would sneak scraps of food to Xiao and share what little water he had. Their bond deepened, and Xiao began to see Bai not as an enemy's kin but as a friend.

A Month in Captivity

Weeks passed, and Xiao endured countless attempts on his life by the Shi Ling guards. They came with weapons and dark energy, determined to break him. But Xiao was no ordinary prisoner. His wit and strength made him impossible to subdue.

One day, Lan Ling himself descended into the basement. His presence was intimidating, his aura cold and menacing.

"Xiao," Lan Ling began, his tone commanding, "join me. With your power, we could conquer this world. Help me destroy the Jiang Clan, and I will set you free."

Xiao smirked, leaning back against the wall. "Free me? I'm already having the time of my life here. Why would I want to leave?"

Lan Ling's face twisted in anger. "You dare mock me?"

Xiao laughed. "Oh, absolutely. You should try it sometime—it might improve your mood."

Lan Ling's eyes darkened, and he snapped his fingers. Guards stormed in and began beating Xiao mercilessly. Yet, even as blood dripped from his face, Xiao's defiant laughter echoed through the basement.

"I'll break you," Lan Ling growled before storming out.

The Clan's Response

Meanwhile, back in Xiao's tribe, Madam Ying and Xiaobo Shen were preparing for war. "We can't wait any longer," Madam Ying declared. "We must attack the Shi Ling Clan and bring Xiao back."

Xiaobo hesitated. "But we haven't secured the Jiang Clan's support yet. We need their help to stand a chance."

"Then we'll meet with them tomorrow," Madam Ying said firmly.

The Jiang Clan, however, was already under attack. The Shi Ling forces had struck with devastating power, using a weapon unlike anything anyone had ever seen. The once-proud Jiang stronghold was reduced to ashes, its streets flowing with blood. Survivors staggered through the ruins, their faces etched with horror.

When Madam Ying and Xiaobo arrived, they were met with devastation. Bodies lay scattered, the air thick with smoke and the stench of death.

"They have something… unnatural," one of the Jiang survivors whispered. "A weapon that consumes everything in its path."

The Disappearance of the Mark

Back in the basement, Xiao lay unconscious after a particularly brutal beating. When he finally woke, weeks had passed. His body ached, but something felt… different.

A man entered the cell, inspecting him with a mixture of curiosity and caution. "Your mark," the man said, pointing to Xiao's back. "It's gone."

Xiao's hand shot to his back, where the Fire Flower mark had once been. It was true—the mark had disappeared.

Memories flooded his mind. He recalled the night some cloaked figures had entered his cell. They had subdued him and performed some kind of dark ritual. He had passed out before he could fight back.

"What have they done to me?" Xiao muttered, his voice trembling with anger and confusion.

Unbeknownst to him, the Shi Ling Clan had been experimenting on him, seeking to harness the Fire Flower's power. But their tampering had unintended consequences—consequences that would soon reshape the battle for the world.
