The Fire Flower's Secrets
The disappearance of the Fire Flower mark from Xiao's back had left him shaken. As he ran his fingers over the scars that now adorned his body, fragments of a memory flashed in his mind. He recalled the night in the basement—shadows moving in the dark, cloaked figures casting strange spells, and the suffocating sensation of his energy being drained. The pain had been unbearable, and he had lost consciousness before he could resist.
When he awoke, he felt an emptiness inside him, as if the core of his being had been hollowed out. The once-glowing power he carried within him was gone.
Suddenly, Bai appeared, his face pale with worry. "Xiao," he said, his voice trembling, "Lan Ling… he's taken your power and turned it into a weapon. It's something dangerous, something unnatural. It can absorb both good and bad energy. No one can stand against it."
Xiao's eyes widened in disbelief. "How is that possible? The Fire Flower chooses its host. No one can take it by force!"
Bai nodded grimly. "They used black magic. I overheard the guards talking about a forbidden book kept in the Shi Ling library. It contains all sorts of dark rituals, including how to extract the Fire Flower from someone's body."
Xiao clenched his fists, rage boiling within him. "I need to find that book," he said, his voice resolute.
But as he tried to stand, his legs gave out beneath him. His strength was gone, his body weak and unsteady. He felt hollow, as though he had been reduced to a shell of his former self.
"Xiao, you need to rest," Bai urged.
"No," Xiao said firmly, shaking his head. "I need to recover. I need to fight."
He sat down and closed his eyes, beginning to meditate. Hours passed, and gradually, a faint glow emanated from his body. His wings, golden and sharp, unfurled behind him. Though they lacked their former brilliance, they still radiated strength and danger. Slowly but surely, Xiao felt energy returning to him.
When he finally opened his eyes, his determination was unwavering. "I feel better now," he said. "Take me to the library."
The Forbidden Knowledge
The Shi Ling library was empty when Xiao arrived. He moved quickly and quietly, scanning the shelves for any clue about the Fire Flower. Most of the books were useless, filled with mundane information or propaganda about the clan's greatness.
But then, hidden behind a false panel, Xiao found an ancient book bound in cracked leather. Its title, written in faded golden script, read The Secrets of Fire and Shadows.
As he flipped through the pages, Xiao's heart pounded. The book detailed the origins of the Fire Flower and the process of extracting its energy through black magic. It explained that while the Fire Flower could be removed from its host, it could not be transferred to another body. It would remain a raw, unstable force, destructive to anyone who attempted to control it. Overuse of the extracted power would eventually lead to death.
"So that's their plan," Xiao murmured. "They think they can wield my power. But they're only bringing about their own destruction."
Determined, Xiao began planning his escape. He knew he couldn't stay in the palace any longer—he had to return to his clan and warn them of the danger.
The Escape
As Xiao made his way out of the library, a group of guards spotted him. They captured him and threw him back into the basement, chaining him more securely this time.
Despite his imprisonment, Xiao had earned the sympathy of a few guards. Over the weeks, he had used his limited energy to heal their injuries and ease their suffering, even at great cost to himself. Moved by his kindness, a small group of guards devised a plan to help him escape.
Late one night, they unlocked his cell and led him through a hidden passageway. "This is as far as we can take you," one of them whispered. "Good luck."
Xiao thanked them and slipped into the shadows, his golden wings folded tightly against his back.
As he neared the edge of the palace grounds, Xiao heard the sound of horses and shouting. The Shi Ling forces were returning from battle. He quickly hid, watching as they rode past. Their numbers were smaller than before, and many of their warriors were wounded.

The Battle of the Jiang Clan
Meanwhile, the Jiang Clan had suffered a devastating blow. Their village was in ruins, and blood stained the ground. Yet despite their losses, the Jiang Clan refused to surrender.
Leeming's brother, Yi Ling, had been hidden outside the clan, ensuring the survival of their lineage. "As long as the clan head lives," Yi Ling had said, "our clan will endure."
Leeming himself fought fiercely, transforming into his Dragon Form. His power was immense, and he tore through the Shi Ling forces, killing Lan Ling's eldest son, Chao, with a single strike. Mou, another of Lan Ling's sons, was gravely injured.
Realizing they could not win, the Shi Ling forces retreated. Though victorious, the Jiang Clan had paid a heavy price. Many of their warriors had fallen, and their village lay in ashes.

The Aftermath
As Xiao made his way back to his clan, he felt a mixture of hope and dread. He had lost his power, but he had gained knowledge that could turn the tide of the war.
"I'll reclaim what's mine," he vowed. "And I'll make sure the Shi Ling Clan pays for everything they've done."
Unbeknownst to him, his journey was just beginning, and the power of the Fire Flower still held secrets that could change the fate of the world.
