Chapter 2 - Fate's Pull

Daniel is a professor at the Broad Institute located on Candle Square Broad Way.

The Broad Institute is a biomedical research center jointly established by M.I.T. and Harvard, where Daniel studies disease mechanisms based on the human genome map and develops innovative therapies.

He is particularly renowned as an authority on the Human Genome Project (HGP), which he worked on alongside his wife, Adele.

Sitting in his office with a cup of coffee, Daniel was waiting for his first meeting with the new researchers selected for the BBPS program.

BBPS offers a two-year paid opportunity at the Broad Institute, making it highly sought after among top students from M.I.T. and Harvard.

At the appointed time, one by one, the new researchers entered Daniel's office, their faces a mix of excitement and tension. This anxiety was understandable, as Daniel had a reputation for being the most challenging professor at the Broad Institute.

Since Adele went missing, a smile had not graced his face. The yearning and resentment he harbored for her slowly consumed him, leading him to spend most of his time in solitude.

Knock knock. A light knock sounded as the door to Daniel's office opened.

"Hello, I'm Iris Moore, the new researcher."

Her cheerful voice made Daniel look up, and the moment their eyes met, he nearly gasped.

The new researcher, dressed in a deep cobalt blouse and a crisp white lab coat, was none other than the woman he had encountered in the café just days before.

Momentarily taken aback, Daniel steadied his breath and greeted her calmly.

"Hello, I'm Professor Daniel Harris."

"I didn't expect to see you here again," she replied with a slight smile.

"Me neither. I was surprised to run into you."

---

As Daniel listened to Iris discuss her motivations for applying and her research achievements, memories of the beautiful and intelligent Adele from their university days flooded back to him.

'Adele, who was a freshman at M.I.T., always sat in the front row, her eyes filled with curiosity as she absorbed the lectures. Her quirky questions often enlivened the class atmosphere.'

'One day, after class, Daniel watched Adele passionately discuss gene-editing technology with her professor, captivated by her charm. "Smart and beautiful too...!"'

Iris's presence at the research institute strikingly mirrored that of the young and vibrant Adele.
