Scarlett thought of going home, it would just be one straight and boring walk. Besides she had spent exactly three weeks doing nothing in bed, trying to heal herself from the poison she sucked out of Debbie, which was the consequence of being reckless in order to save someone's life. She needed to think about everything that had happened in the past four weeks. First of all the mist, the girl, Gallus, Debbie and that nightmare she couldn't remember. The girl was most probably a dead end and it's not like she could make the mist appear again…if only that was possible, but she could at least find out something from Gallus, when she meets him though which won't be easy to do because she had no idea who to tell about this. Nicole and Zev were totally out of the question, she wanted to know what this whole thing was about and telling them would make it all to come to an end.
And then there was Debbie, a strange girl that happened to catch her attention with her striking features that resembled that of her family's. It couldn't just be a coincidence that Debbie had the same features…she hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to the girl so until then, she couldn't jump to conclusions. And then her grandfather just brought her here without even bothering to at least have a decent conversation with her. She wasn't even sure what he would tell her when she asked but knowing the man, anything was possible. She needed answers…answers that only he could give her, the man who she thought was dead, her grandfather. She knew where he was, he wasn't a hard man to find, that was if he wanted to be found. Nicholas Quinn's a complicated man to understand.
"I didn't think you'd come if you knew I was here," Mr. Quinn said. His eyes were closed as he sat on the couch in the VIP section sipping a glass of vodka.
"I need answers grandfather and you're the only one I know can give me those answers,"
"Want a drink?"
"How old do you think I am?"
"C'mon you're turning nineteen in the next…ten days right? You're old enough to drink,"
"Now you're just drunk," she said and sat on the couch opposite him. She ordered a bottle of wine, poured a glass and took a sip while studying her grandfather.
"You're looking at me as though I'm a criminal you're trying to interrogate…" he said and dropped his glass. "I'm still sober, ask whatever you want," she dropped her glass on the table.
"How did you survive?"
"I wasn't expecting that," he said.
"I'll choose what questions I ask, all you need to worry about is answering them," she said firmly.
"I'm not one of your business partners kid, don't be firm with me, I'm your grandfather," he sounded irritated but smiled. "I can see how you and your brother are so successful, but those are needed in the office and not in the family,"
"I'm not the office type but sometimes being firm is needed in the family when you want to achieve something, now answer my question Mr. Quinn,"
"I've taught you well, your parents would be proud,"
"My parents…they're a…alive?"
"They never actually died per say, just a way to keep you safe," he said studying her face. "We made it all up, richest business tycoon dies in a plane crash, son takes over, both son and wife are killed, and the children are left behind and then they're killed as well and the family's done for, we couldn't possibly keep staying in human world, we don't grow old, they'll notice something and besides, everyone in Ensco knew me as Mr. Leroy,"
"How did you make it so believable? Even your friends thought you guys actually died,"
"It was necessary Scarlett, I made it seem like you both had no one to protect you and then eventually you were killed, then a family moved to Ensco and that was us, however our appearances were different, the alteration I had put on our appearances were gone so…"
"So all this was necessary because…?" she asked annoyed.
"You're taking it the wrong way kid, this was me training and protecting you for the future, you have no idea what's in store for you Scarlett and I just hope it won't be too late when you find out,"
"Find out what?"
"Story for another day, just hope we get to talk about that when it's time," he said and vanished.
"Come back here grandfather, I came here for answers and you have done nothing more than just giving me more questions to ask, come back here!!" she screamed and went back to the forest, she found her former clothes and put them on. She knew she was about to lose it, her frustration itched at the back of her mind, they were hiding too many things from her and being kept in the dark was a threat to her demon, her demon was hungry for blood and she couldn't control it, it was too strong. Scarlett teleported herself deeper into the forest where she had found deadly monsters during her hunt, she killed the first monster she saw using just her nails.
Shocked at the length of nails, she didn't realize they had grown so long already, her fangs were out and her eyes were scarlet and the veins were darker. "What the hell is happening to me?!" she screamed. Scarlett tried her best to control her demon but she couldn't, her eyes turned completely black and all she could see was blood.
'It's the blood you've consumed, your demon is full and wants to exercise' that presence was familiar. His voice echoed in her head, she opened her eyes and everywhere was dark.
'What do you want from me?'
'Like I said nothing'
'Who are you?'
'A friend'
'You're not my friend'
'Then I'm your enemy'
You're not my enemy either; you've been helping me since I met you'
'We haven't met yet'
'Then how do you know me?'
'You're very popular in the supernatural world'
'I shouldn't trust you, should I?'
'You think I'll hurt you'
'I'm not sure, you haven't said a word about why you've been helping me since which is very secretive, I don't know your name'
'I'll tell you what you need to know when we meet officially'
'Everyone wants me to wait for a specific time before I get to hear the truth about things…things that concern me, why?'
'It's not advisable to know everything at once,'
'The people who want me dead, are you one of them?'
'If I wanted you dead, don't you think you would've been dead a while ago?'
'Then what do you want if not me dead?'
'Let's just say the people on the throne are causing problems, I need balance restored in Country D'
'I'm not the crown prince,'
'I know that but it's easier to get to you'
'Why is that?'
'Because you're Scarlett Quinn' there was a brief pause in their conversation after he said that.
'What's happening to me?'
'You should know that by now' he said. 'You almost drained the forest of its animals and still drank human blood, what do you think?' he let her understand what her demon was trying to do and she let herself relax. 'You seem to like designers?'
'Just these ones, I didn't want to ruin them, they're from my favorite fashion line' she answered. 'Why can't I see your face?'
'You'll see me soon, in the mean time, enjoy your birthday' he said and left. How did he know about her birthday? Scarlett had already killed a lot of monsters, this was the first time she let her demon take control and the entire place was covered in blood and body parts of the monsters.
"Scarlett stop!!!" she knew that voice. No matter how red her vision was, she would always recognize that voice.
"N…Nicole, don't come near me, I'll hurt you," Scarlett trembled; she was trying to gain control again. Her eyes switched from black to grey. She fell to ground hard, she just recovered and her demon taking control right now took a toll on her body. She tried to sit up but Nicole stopped her.
"You're being too reckless Scarlett? Are you trying to kill yourself?"
"That won't be easy," Scarlett coughed.
"Stop trying, I'll never let you die on me," Nicole said. Scarlett went back to forest and washed herself up. She refused to get into the car with them so she decided to fly back behind them
