Chapter 9 - THE HOSPITAL

Ethan entered the classroom with a newfound confidence. The other students stared at him, amazed at his transformation. His hair was styled perfectly, and his new outfit made him stand out from the crowd.

As he walked to his seat, he noticed that many of his classmates didn't recognize him at first, he was met with a chorus of gasps and exclamations. But as they realized who he was, they all complimented him on his new look.

"Ethan, is that really you?" "What did you do to your hair?" "You look amazing!"

"Wow, Ethan, you look so different!" one of his classmates exclaimed.

"I almost didn't recognize you!" another chimed in.

Even the bullies who used to tease him were taken aback by his transformation. They didn't even try to pick on him anymore, as if they were afraid of the new, confident Ethan.

Ethan smiled to himself, feeling a sense of pride and confidence that he hadn't experienced in a long time. He knew that his new look was thanks to Anya's help and encouragement, and he felt grateful for her influence in his life.

Despite his newfound confidence, Ethan couldn't shake off the anxiety he felt about Anya's health. He constantly worried about her and longed to visit her again. So, one day after school, he decided to visit her at the hospital.

Ethan felt his heart pounding in his chest as he entered the hospital. He had never been to a hospital before and the sterile environment made him feel uneasy.

Anya had texted him earlier that day, letting him know she was going to be having a procedure done and that he could come visit her afterwards. He was eager to see her, but also nervous about what he might find.

As he walked down the corridor, he saw Anya's cousin brother, Aaron Johansson, waiting outside a room. He recognized him from the pictures Anya had shown him, and he looked just as kind as she had described him.

"Are you Ethan?" Aaron asked, standing up to greet him.

"Yes, I am," Ethan replied, feeling a little self-conscious about his appearance. He had been so nervous about the visit that he had forgotten to style his hair or wear his best clothes.

"I'm Anya's cousin. She's been talking about you a lot lately," Aaron said with a smile. "She'll be happy to see you."

Ethan felt a small surge of pride at the thought that Anya had been talking about him to her family.

He followed Aaron into the room, where Anya was lying in bed, hooked up to various machines.

"Ethan!" Anya said, her eyes lighting up when she saw him. "You came."

"Of course I did," Ethan replied, feeling his worries melt away as he saw her smiling face. "How are you feeling?"

"A little sore, but I'll be okay," Anya said, patting the bed next to her. "Come sit with me."

Ethan sat down next to her and took her hand, feeling a strange mix of emotions. He was sad to see her in such a vulnerable state, but also grateful to be able to be there for her.

After that Ethan told Anya, about the events that happened at school.

Anya chuckled at Ethan's story, but there was a hint of jealousy in her voice. "Looks like you're becoming quite the popular guy, Ethan," she said playfully.

Ethan shrugged, "I don't really care about that stuff. I just want to be friends with you and have a good time."

Anya smiled, "I know, I know. I'm just teasing you. But I do have to admit, I don't like the idea of other girls flocking around you."

Ethan looked at her, surprised by her admission. "What do you mean?"

Anya hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I know we're just friends, but I can't help feeling a little possessive of you. You're my special friend, Ethan."

Ethan felt a warmth spread through his chest, "You're my special friend too, Anya."

They both smiled at each other, and for a moment, everything else in the world faded away.

They talked for a while, with Aaron chiming in occasionally. Ethan learned that Aaron was studying to become a doctor and had been helping take care of Anya during her hospital visits.

He was impressed by how knowledgeable and kind Aaron was, and felt grateful that Anya had such a supportive family.

Nonetheless, Ethan tried his best to act normal, but the sight of Anya in a hospital bed was overwhelming. He couldn't help but feel sad and scared for her. Anya noticed his unease and tried to cheer him up.

"Don't worry about me, Ethan," she said. "I'm in good hands with Aaron here. And besides, I'll be out of here soon enough."

Aaron chimed in, "Yes, Anya is a fighter. She's been making great progress with her treatments."

Ethan felt a sense of relief hearing that, but he still couldn't shake off the feeling of worry. Anya noticed and took his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Don't worry about me, Ethan. I'm strong, and I have you by my side," she said, smiling.

Ethan felt a sudden warmth in his chest, knowing that he was there to support her.

He looked at Anya and smiled back, feeling grateful for their friendship.

As they chatted and laughed together, Aaron stepped out of the room to give them some privacy.

As Aaron got ready to leave, Aaron pulled Ethan aside. "Take care of her, okay?" he said, giving him a small smile. "She's special."

Ethan nodded, feeling a sense of responsibility settle over him. He knew that Anya was going through a difficult time, and he was determined to be there for her as much as he could.

The nurse gently notifies Ethan that their allotted time has come to an end and kindly requests them to prepare to depart.

"Well, I should be going," Ethan said, starting to make his way to the door.

"Wait," Anya said suddenly. "I want to give you something."

She reached over to her bedside table and pulled out a small box, handing it to Ethan. "It's not much, but I hope you'll like it."

Ethan opened the box to find a small, intricately designed bracelet. It was delicate and beautiful, with small flowers and leaves woven into the metal.

"It's beautiful," Ethan said, feeling a warm sense of gratitude wash over him. "Thank you, Anya. I'll always treasure it."

As Ethan was leaving, Anya grabbed his hand and pulled him close. She leaned in and planted a soft kiss on his forehead, causing his heart to skip a beat.

"Take care, Ethan," she whispered.

Ethan nodded, unable to find the words to express his feelings. He knew that he would miss her terribly, but he also knew that he would do everything in his power to support her and help her through her illness.

With a final goodbye, Ethan left the hospital, feeling grateful for Anya's friendship and support. He knew that she was going through a tough time, but he was determined to be there for her no matter what.

As he walked out of the hospital, Ethan couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions - sadness, hope, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for having met Anya and for the impact she had on his life.
