Chapter 8 - Old Man Caine

Not only had his stats improved after this small session, but his level and the shadow wolf technique also improved quite a lot. According to his current speed, he can break through in both in one or two days.

It was already getting late, so he went to the cafeteria with Adam, his hunger renewed by the exercise. Two days passed in a steady routine: he trained, ate, and spent time reading more books at Old Joseph's place, steadily increasing his knowledge.

[Ash/Asterion - Level 01(8.5/10)]

[Evolver Level - Early Stage Awakened ]

[Martial Arts Level - Third Rate ]

[Strength- 1.2 (+0.4)↑]

[Speed- 1.1 (+0.4)↑ ]

[Physique- 1.1 (+0.4)↑ ]

[Spirit- 1.7 (+0.1)↑ ]

[Talent- Eye of Myriad Manifestation (Level- 01)]

[Skills- Shadow Wolf Technique [ Level - 2 (35/80)] ]

This was the progress he had made in just two days. He had transformed from thin and frail to a more stable, streamlined physique. Such rapid improvement was shocking, and even Adam couldn't help but stare in surprise at the changes in him.

There is a lot of improvement, but sadly, there is not much improvement in his Evolver realm or talent. Still, these two days weren't without any gain.

He knew that to progress along the path of an Evolver, he needed to increase his Spirit stat. While he had managed to improve it slightly by repeatedly using his eye ability, the process was painfully slow. At this rate, it would take him a month or two to reach the middle stage of the awakening realm.

As for talent, he didn't find anything or any way through which he could improve them, but since it's showing level 1, then there must be level 2, which was the most surprising thing about his talent.

Ash didn't know if it was possible to upgrade their talent, as he didn't learn super-deep secrets about evolvers, but from what he learnt, he never heard of such things.

But he cannot find anything about Evolvers here; he isn't sure that there are Evolvers in this world, so he can only find ways on his own.

He was heading to the training field, as today he was supposed to join the others. But just as he stepped outside, he noticed an old man sitting casually in a chair right in the middle of the path, sipping tea without a care for the unusual location.

The old man looked at him while sipping his tea, and instantly, Ash felt that same horrifying, tingling sensation wash over his body. He didn't need to use his ability to judge; he again met someone ridiculously strong and could only curse inwardly, 'F**k, what the hell? Why am I meeting these terrifying guys one after another?'

In his previous life, he had scamm… guided plenty of people, but he'd never encountered anyone like this. And now, in just two days, he'd met two such mighty figures.

"Hmm Senior..."

He slowly walked towards the old man, who, seeing his terrified expression, smiled.

"Not bad; your senses are quite sharp. Come sit here." Old Man signalled him to sit beside him in the middle of the road.

He could only silently follow the words, as he knew the old man wasn't something to mess with.

The old man was wearing simple but well-made silk clothes. He seemed like someone in his sixties with white hair but seemed to have a healthy and sturdy body.

[Caine- level ????]

Ash looked at the name and??? floating above the old man's head, which didn't surprise him, but at least it let him know what his name was.

"Interesting."

"Your eyes give me a different feeling. Did you awaken a spiritual talent?" Caine mused, his gaze fixed intently on Ash. Ash's heart skipped a beat, a wave of shock hitting him as he realised this old man might have glimpsed his deepest secrets.

A sense of panic welled up within him. It seemed that spiritual talents and Evolvers shared a deeper connection than he'd thought—and Caine appeared to see right through him.

But he didn't know if it was good or bad that he played cool, and as a scammer, he has a great deal of control over emotion, although that doesn't seem to work for mighty beings like the one in front of him.

"You're a lot calmer than I expected," Caine said, a hint of amusement in his voice. "But even if you can control your expression, you can't control your heartbeats—not as a beginner martial artist. And the unintentional spread of your spirit gives you away. You have no control yet, just like any fledgling who's only recently awakened."

"Don't worry, although awakening talent is rare, it's not like you are the only one; in fact, there are quite a few in the empire. Still, it's a fact that they are rare and not everybody can receive the gift of God."

Hearing this, he managed to calm himself, though he still felt a jolt of surprise. It seemed he wasn't the only Evolver here, which meant there might be ways to accelerate his progress.

Still, he could tell that this world lacked a fundamental understanding of abilities. People here believed these "talents" were granted by the gods.

"But still, I have to say, it would be better if you used your gift carefully. In this world, nothing can be free and without a certain prize. Anyway, martial arts are also not weak; reaching a high level, you can also overcome gods." Caine's calm yet confident words filled with power echoed in his mind.

Ash was surprised. Though he didn't believe in any "god" bullshit, the idea that martial arts could reach a level to rival gods was astounding. For someone like old Caine to suggest this, high-level martial artists must attain truly unimaginable power.

He hearing this couldn't help but feel a bit excited. Could he be able to reach such a level? Still, in this life, there is some hope.

Noticing the change in Ash's expression, Old Caine smiled. "Kid, you seem excited. How about I teach you a technique? It may not be the most famous in the empire, but if you truly understand it, you'll be able to overwhelm the world."
