Chapter 6 - One Night

"Did someone hire you?" Miriam asked eagerly. "For one evening or one trip? How much did they pay you?"

"You seem to have it down," he answered with a smile of his own. "How many gigolos do you usually hire?"

Miriam fired back. She had to shot it out a few times, her sudden run of anger having taken her off guard before she got serious with her tone. "Stop changing the fucking subject. What did you think?"

One night. Ten thousand, Reginald shot back, frowning.

At the height of his profession he himself felt bored, his life was getting far more colourful and interesting with this stupid woman.

He stepped back disoriented. Was MR.DEVEREAUX talking about a girl friend?

What does he mean by "one night"?

Is 10,000 any kind of a code number?

Miriam felt wonderfully crammed with money. Five thousand dollars in cash was enough to make you feel rich.

I don't want any payment in advance. I'll take care of it tomorrow morning," Reginald said.

Then the connection closed.

Miriam was pissed off why he didn't say goodbye? Is he trying to take it back?

Anyways.. I think he wouldn't, because aside from the fact that he signed the contract. He called me back and told me his monthly salary.

Let's see.

Maybe there will be money in my account when I wake up!

Miriam had been tossing and turning in bed all night. She kept on looking at her phone. No, not another move. No, not yet. It's only two o' clock in the morning. Just a little longer.

At six in the morning Miriam had just fallen asleep when she got a text and reached under her pillow to get her phone, it was an SMS that told her that a transfer of five thousand had been made to her account.

Fantastic! She jumped up happily, right away.

I texted back, "Why wouldn't you?"

Then quickly she texted, "I just got the money." Good job! Tonight work harder!"

I realized that I had paid the bill last night. You said you would subtract i from my debt.

Miriam: I fear that you will actually use the money. Just give it to me everyday and i'll subtract $180,000 from your debt. No problem.

Gigolo Debt is Ok!

Miriam Put in a lot of effort at work tonight as well. You do well, and i'll get you some vitamins!

Miriam was too happy to have the money, and did not go to sleep at once. They could think of nothing out of the way to do with it, so they laid it on the table, counted it again, and said:

They had been living here only a month, and Mrs. Marroner did not know anybody in town except their landlord and a few people she happened to meet in chance comings and goings across the hall that led from their two rooms into a one-room apartment similar to their own.

Once upon a time, Miriam had been somebody's precious daughter herself. She'd had a father who'd treated her like a princess.

Miriam didn't become a mother until the Carlisles died. But she still saw each new crop of applicants as nothing more than rival mothers, and she shopped for her babies' wants at the best possible rates.

In no time they were on the Grand Plaza.

Miriam had a casual jean top. She disconnected her phone and put it in her bum bag then folded up her sleeves as if she was about to go into some "war."

Edwin, Tessa, Cedric, I am going to the market to buy something. You all play in the playground with Mrs. Della okay? Don't go anyway yourselves. I will be back soon."

The children answered collectively, "Okay!"

A couple girls were giggling and tittering, asking, "Oh are they mixed-race babies? How cute! Adorable!

Yes their bright eyes and wavy hairs. More or less exactly like a prince and princess we read in story book! I never saw kids that beautiful.

The little girl has a parrot on her shoulder. I think it must be sleeping. Hehe! How cute!

Miriam always made the children put on hats and sunglasses every time they needed to go out in public, because they will get such a exposure no matter where they went. "No pictures or filmings please." Edwin told them coldly, "This is an infringment of our photo privacy."

I can take selfies with good looking women. But no selfies with guys. Cedric smiled. "Only good looking women!"

"Shh, you'll wake Pippin up!" Tessa put her finger to her lips.

She had Pippin sleeping on her shoulder.

"Oh my god, SO CUTE! Would you mind taking a picture with us?" A group of giggling girls around them.

"Sorry, but nope. That's not what we do." Edwin replied.

"Well, you three and I have the tickets. So let's go!"

On the way, Mrs. Della stopped at a place to register Miriam for kindergarten. Then she walked slowly up onto the third floor where there was a children's clothing store. That was having a sale.

Just then black coaties entered and called for Sanford and Merton, By summonses. The mothers drew back their fumbling hands. Women he wanted to peep at.

And the guards are all tall as him too. Every night could have a one on the lookingglass!

Miriam couldn't believe what she was hearing. A gigolo. At Sultry Night.

A gigolo? Seriously?

" You are all wrong. Those are the bodyguards of the president of Evergreen Enterprises." A self-satisfied-mother with tidy neat bang laughed.

My wife works at Evergreen Enterprises. There are eighteen bodyguards outside the president's office, and they all have a golden S on their shoulder.

"There aren't usually this many bodyguards," she said. "I think the president is in town."

Another mother said wistfully, "Wow! The bodyguards are handsome. How handsome will the president be?"

"That's right." Miriam had thought him ugly and short. He wasn't short or ugly.

The men in black turned around, and before the store, a group of people filed into line at the Italian place. Then a big man walked into it.

Miriam gave a dispassionate appraisal of his back. That was the president of Evergreen Enterprises, Reginald Deveraux.

She knew her from somewhere. But where?

Meanwhile the kids were playing in the park with their heart's content.

Since then she continued being with them. Few parents approached her and had serious discussion.

Cedric got up to go to the bathroom, and he had his hands in his pocket as he was about left the restroom, but then saw some blood on the floor and his eyes got big.

What? There's blood all over the floor?

Curiosity or reflex had led Cedric through the corridors, down two flights of stairs, over a short passage covered with plascrete and into storage. There were more broken pieces along the way, one heavy enough to require both hands to move it, and then just before he turned into the storage bay itself, another trail of blood.

Cedric moved through the doorway—and stopped short.

The man in black was now all covered up by his mask and hood; only, blood kept dripping steadily from his wound.

Do you need any help, sir? Cedric asked kindly.

"Stupid, just leave me alone", the man replied to him and made an eye-roll. Great idea! As if it would help, he thought irritated and pressed the sleeve against his face.

The blood would shoot out of you like a geyser. "You need to get to a doctor!" Cedric said, and started walking away.

"Cedric! Cedric!" Pippin flew after Cedric.

Cedric lifted his hand and Pippin settled comfortably on the back of his palm. All eyes were on the two when they left.

"What a cute baby," I cooed.

He also has a very adorable parrot. Aww!
