Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Playing with Snakes

Liu Mou was lying prone on a tree branch, observing a giant bird's nest that contained exactly four large eggs. Just as he excitedly prepared to pocket the eggs, his hand slipped, and one egg immediately fell.

Following the direction of the egg, his face filled with distress, he hurriedly looked down. This glimpse was alarming enough that he almost fell himself, for what Liu Mou saw was a snake.

Liu Mou had grown up in the mountains and was accustomed to encounters with snakes, insects, rodents, and ants since childhood. He was not typically frightened of snakes, but this was different because the snake he encountered had three heads.

One head of the snake flicked its tongue like any other, its entire body snow-white. Liu Mou had never seen such a bizarre snake before. The egg that had just dropped did not fall to the ground but landed right on top of one of the snake's heads. The other two heads were fixed on him, giving Liu Mou the creeps.

Not sure if it was the overwhelming fear or sheer curiosity, Liu Mou actually threw another egg down, which another head promptly swallowed. Now truly curious, he tossed a second egg, and the third head gobbled it up in one swift motion.

Liu Mou was about to throw another when he saw he only had one egg left. The fear that had gripped his heart earlier vanished, and he chuckled, "I can't give you any more, or I'll be left with none. You have three heads; even if I gave it to you, you wouldn't know how to share. But since you've eaten my eggs, today you'll have to obediently follow me home, for I must thoroughly research you." Having said that, Liu Mou quickly climbed down the tree and confronted the three-headed serpent in front of him. The serpent seemed to sense something and quickly slithered away.

Just who was Liu Mou? In his village, he was known for skilfully stealing bird eggs and catching snakes and rodents. How could he let such an opportunity slip by? He was determined to capture and study this snake.

No sooner had he spoken than he followed the serpent into the mountains. Although the paths were rugged, they were no hurdle for Liu Mou, who was familiar with the area, though not the deepest parts of the woods.

Chasing the three-headed snake, Liu Mou was about to seize it when the silver-white serpent suddenly moved out of his reach, not bothering to attack him, only fleeing.

After several failed attempts, Liu Mou's fighting spirit was ignited. Without further thought, he mindlessly entered a new territory.

Suddenly, the three-headed snake vanished. As Liu Mou was searching for it, a white fog surged around him, quickly enveloping the surrounding area.

This was bad! He must have wandered deep into the forest, a place known to be dangerous. Even those from his village who often ventured into the mountains dared not enter casually, and yet, he had unwittingly done so.

The worst part was the frequent fog within the forest, which made it difficult for anyone to find their way back. They could only wait for the fog to dissipate; otherwise, they might get utterly lost in the haze.

At this point, Liu Mou could hardly keep calm. He tried hard to recall the path and direction he had taken just before. While thinking about how to leave, the ground trembled, and a massive fissure appeared beneath Liu Mou. He was startled, had no time to escape, and fell into it.

After an unknown period, Liu Mou slowly opened his eyes. The scene around him was astonishing—he found himself in a strange land filled with medicinal herbs, the air perfumed with their scents. Lingzhi, ginseng, and various other herbs, some of which he didn't even recognize, filled this world.

Where was this? Liu Mou himself was confused. Slowly standing up, he looked around for a while but remained utterly bewildered.

Could it be that he was dreaming? Liu Mou slapped himself hard, it was loud and painful, when suddenly, a slow voice came through, "All beings between heaven and earth experience birth, aging, sickness, and death, only I, the Medicine King, may live as long as heaven and earth itself, vie in brilliance with the sun and the moon, and bring back the dead with but a flick of my wrist." The booming voice resounded in his mind.

Upon hearing this voice, Liu Mou's head suddenly felt heavy, and the surroundings started to fade into an illusion; a white beam of light descended from the sky and entered his body in an instant. Before he could react, his head dropped, and he lost consciousness again.

When he woke up, Liu Mou found himself still in the midst of the mountains and woods. Everything that had happened seemed like a dream — a dream so real, yet also so distant. Liu Mou recalled for a moment, then shook his head and mumbled to himself, "Did I damage my brain from falling while robbing bird nests? How could I have experienced such an illusion? I should find a way to leave this place. If I don't return home today, my parents will surely be worried sick, and I won't escape a beating."

Liu Mou immediately began looking for a way out, but because the fog was so thick, he still couldn't make his way out after some time.

Just as he was growing anxious, all of a sudden, a three-headed snake appeared, its silver-white body emitting a strange glow that shone brightly in the dense fog.

Liu Mou looked at this bizarre snake, and doubts began to form in his mind. It was because of chasing after it that he got lost in the first place. Now that it had appeared again, was it trying to lead him into another strange place? He remained motionless, just watching the three-headed serpent.

At this moment, the three-headed snake shook its tail at Liu Mou, and he suddenly had a strange thought — that this serpent could take him out of there. He did not know why he had such an eerie thought.

On second thought, since he couldn't leave this place anyway, he might as well follow the snake. With that, Liu Mou mounted the three-headed serpent.

After an unknown period, the mist became thinner and eventually vanished altogether. Only when he saw his surroundings did Liu Mou's heart finally settle.

This was a place he often visited — there was a small river nearby where he would bathe when he had nothing else to do, as the water was very clean.

Suddenly!

Liu Mou remembered something, looked ahead, and the three-headed snake had once again disappeared. The things he encountered today were too bizarre; he dared not believe they were real. It was like being in a dream.

He gently shook his head and then slowly walked towards the small river. He had worked up a sweat and decided to relax a bit and bathe in the river before heading home.

As Liu Mou was undressing and walking towards the river, while only his underpants were left...

Suddenly!

A snow-white figure flitted towards him, dazzlingly white. Although he didn't know who it was, the mere sight of that figure already caused a reaction in Liu Mou's body. Just as he prepared to take a closer look, that graceful silhouette suddenly threw itself into his arms.
