According to Nica, the infected soldier by the sting dart that carried a liquified Cerebyvor parasite was not suicidal anymore. The soldier became mad and killed his comrades in the process without stopping.
The Cerebyvor parasite was designed to attack the cognitive functions of human beings, and somehow Clay had modified and evolved it too effectively that one would surrender control, and let the virus take over his sanity.
Then, what crawled on Luke's skin was that the infected soldier could infect others through his blood and saliva. One was infected too, and pushed Nica to pull the trigger without hesitation.
