Chapter 72 - Seventy two

STEFAN POV

"We aren't like that; we just looked for the available seat; we don't discriminate," Lily said smoothly.

The woman gave her a look of approval.

"keep that kind of behavior up and you will surely go places. Most of these other doctors look down on us not knowing we know a lot of useful information." the woman continued.

"That's true; I remember back then, some years back, I came for a DNA test with a friend,d, and the doctor in charge was so rude," Lily told her.

I kept quiet and didn't say a thing letting her work her magic. It was clear she knew what she was doing.

"Really, when was this? I know some of the doctors in that department."

"Six years ago."

"Hmmm, the only doctor who was rude and who was working around that time would be Dr Reagan."

"and where is this doctor Reagan? I think that might be him, I want to be able to stay out of his way." she continued.

"Oh he resigned last year"

I perked up when I heard this, this person might still be alive.

"Oh, why did he resign?"

Our informant sighed, "Something happened six years ago that changed him. He became depressed, He was advised to resign last year."

"What happened?" I asked.

"He had a girlfriend in the same department; they were the perfect couple, and she was the only one who could calm him down. She disappeared six years ago, no one could find her, till now nobody knows what happened."

"Was the police not involved?"

"Yes, they were involved, not she disappeared without a trace; at the end, the investigation was called off, and Dr. Reagan became a shadow of himself." she finished her story.

"Times are really dangerous now, we must all be careful," Lily said solemnly.

The woman finished her lunch, packed her plates, and stood up.

"anyways, the two of you need to be careful and do your work well; I will see you around," she told us.

"Okay, thank you," Lily told her.

"Thank you," I told the woman as well.

She nodded and walked off.

Lily leaned in to whisper, "I feel guilty. She is going to be expecting us tomorrow, but we won't be here."

"I will compensate her enough to settle her for life and make working here a choice, not a necessity."

"How will you do that?"

"I am pretty sure I can get her information at least."

She laughed softly.

"Not knowing who is behind this must be frustrating right?"

"Frustrating and sobering. Because it means someone is out there making people disappear and Daisy and Declan might be in danger."

"Do you want to tell Daisy yet?"

"Not yet, I don't want her to be worried."

"But you can increase her security?"

"Yes, and you can tell Declan to be more careful and maybe invest in security. His security is so lax."

She chuckled, "That's Declan for you; he hates security."

"Daisy hates security too."

"A match made in heaven truly."

I tap her nose, "Careful, I am still warming up to the idea of your brother"

"He is a good guy, just very rash and simple."

"Well, he should think about his actions better."

"I am sure he will do that; he has learned his lesson."

"And have you learned your lesson?" I asked her.

She nodded, "I have; I have learned my lesson; I should form my own opinions on people and treat them better instead of letting others influence my opinion. I shouldn't have followed Stella so blindly"

"It's good you have learned your lesson."

"So what now?" she asked me.

"I already messaged the name to my guy, I am just waiting for his response. Why do you think he or any of my guys couldn't get a name at least."

She looked thoughtful for a second.

"Maybe because the doctors in this hospital mostly keep to themselves, and such news would have been a scandal they were told to keep quiet about. The woman had no scruples telling us because we were new and we talked to her, creating a sense of friendship."

I tapped her hair," You are so smart. Do you remember back then when you thought you were dumb?"

"Well, I think I felt that way because Stella always made me feel that way. And my parents did, too, and I just let myself go with the flow. Being with you and being closer to Declan has made me see that I can be more than that."

"I am so proud of you" I let her know.

"Thank you, Stefan."

My phone buzzed with a new message. It was a message from my source.

"Okay, I got the address and contact information for Dr Reagan. Do you think we should call him?" I asked Lily.

"No, a face-to-face conversation would be better."

"Let's go then."

I helped her up and we left the hospital quickly in case we were caught.

We changed our clothes in the car and drove to the Doctor's place.

He lived in a small house.

"This looks a bit understated for a doctor," I told Lily.

"He was going through a lot; maybe this is what he simply liked," she replied.

"Hmmm, that's true. Let's see him and hear what he has to say."

We knocked on the door, but at first, there was no response; we kept on knocking until the door opened.

A frail-looking man opened the door; his eyes looked empty and devoid of life.

"Yes, how may I help you?" he asked.

"I am Stefan, and this is Lily. Are you Doctor Reagan?" I asked him.

"Yes, I am Doctor Reagan. Who are you?"

"We would like to ask you some questions concerning a DNA you did back in the day," I told him.

"Why?"

"We have reason to believe you submitted a fake DNA result," Lily told him.

His face became pale instantly.

He tried to close the door on us. I put a foot in front of the door and stopped him.

"I don't think you want to do that."
