Chapter 64 - Sixty Four

DECLAN POV

I went to Lily's room to comfort her.

To my surprise, I didn't meet her crying, rather she was on her phone laughing.

"Oh! Done with breakfast so soon?" she asked me.

"I left to comfort you but you don't seem to be in need of comforting." I tell her, still confused by her demeanor.

"And why would I need comforting?" she asked me.

I was flabbergasted at her question.

"You just ran out of breakfast upset over our parents words?"

"Oh! That! I just wanted to escape from the table." she said with a shrug.

I sighed as I sat on the bed with her.

"And I was really worried about you." I told her.

"I am sorry, I didn't mean to make you worry."

"Are you sure you are really okay?" l asked her.

"Yes, I am sure. I have gotten used to their words, as far as I know it's not true, they can talk about it all they want."

"Look at you being all mature."

"I learnt from you."

I looked down sadly, "I haven't behaved mature at all."

She drops her phone and shifts closer to me.

"You made a mistake, at terrible one but it was still a mistake. At least you know your wrongs now and can rectify them."

"I guess so."

"So what about the hospital tests you wanted to follow up on?" she asked.

"Oh, about that... Stefan said he was going to help me out."

She frowned, "Stefan, as in, Stefan Helios?"

"Yes, back then, I wondered why he would help me, if they were together but now I realized he just wanted to help his baby sister."

"Well, I wish you all the luck, and tell me if you need any help."

"i will be sure to do that." I assured her.

The next day..

I was shocked when my assistant told me, Stefan wanted to see me.

I told her to let him in and he sauntered in.

He sat down in front of me, looking confident while I wondered what had brought him to my office.

"Good morning Stefan"

"Good morning Declan."

"i had no idea you were coming to my office today...." I start the conversation, hoping he would divulge what had brought him here.

"Oh, I just came to see you."

"Why?"

"What do you mean why, we are practically family now, or don't you want to be in the lives of your children?" he asked me.

"I do..." I answered, unsure of where he was going with this.

"Okay, so you have to be ready that I will be in your lives consistently."

"Ah! I see."

"So how far have you gone with the investigation?"

"What investigation?"

If looks could kill, I was certain I would be dead already from the look Stefan was giving me.

"About your fake impotence results?"

"I have been too busy with the launching and everything to do that..." I said in an apologetic tone.

"It's okay, I will get started on it on your behalf"

"Thanks, but why are you doing this?"

"Daisy is my sister and I love her very much and for some reason which I can't fathom, she loves you even after all you did to her."

"She still loves me?" I asked him eagerly.

He rolled his eyes.

"Yes, strangely she does. That is the only reason I am still tolerating you."

"Oh, she still loves me..."

I said to myself.

"Word of advise, apologize soon and grovel if possible, otherwise I can't say that love would still remain."

"Thanks Stefan, and I am truly sorry for how I treated you too."

"Whatever, it's all in the past. Now, I need you to give me someone to assist me, I am also a busy man."

I thought, who could I give him.

"My younger sister Lily has been assisting me but I feel she would be helpful to you."

I could have sworn I saw him smile but it was probably my imagination.

He had no reason to smile about Lily, right?

I messaged Lily to come into the office, she came in after some minutes.

"Lily, this is Stefan Helios, you already know him, he is Lily's elder brother."

"Good morning Mr Helios." she told him.

"Good morning Lily."

"You are going to help him in his investigation about the impotence results. I feel you would be a good fit since you would have my best interests at heart."

"Sure, brother, I would be delighted to help him." she replied.

I had expected an argument but she agreed willingly, she was really becoming mature, I thought to myself.

CHAPTER 67

STEFAN POV

As soon as we were in my car, Lily smacked me on the shoulder.

"What did I do?" I asked.

"How could you even think of such a thing?" she asked in a scolding voice.

"Think of what?"

"Asking Declan for my help. What if he had found out?"

"Found out what?" I tease her.

"That we... That we..." she stuttered.

"That we like each other?"

"You like me?"

"Yes, I do. Didn't you know that?"

She shook her head and looked down at her lap, twisting her fingers nervously.

I tilted her chin up to look at me.

"Do you like me?" I asked.

"I do," she replied shyly.

I smiled and kissed her.

"Now, no matter how tempting it is, I didn't just need your company to flirt with you but I need your help"

"Okay, how do I help?" she asked me eagerly.

I smiled at her eagerness and kissed her again.

"I have tracked down the person involved in the first hospital test, he resigned after he issued the test."

"That's strange," she said thoughtfully.

"Exactly, he resigned and left the city, we would need to take a trip out of town to see him."

She smirked, "are you sure you just don't want to have me alone in a strange town?" she asked.

"I wish, but we do have to see him; maybe afterward we would have some time alone." I twirl a lock of her hair between my fingers.

She smiles and kisses me on the cheek.

A niggling voice kept telling me Daisy would be so angry when she found out I was with Lily.

But I ignored it, I would cross that bridge when I got to it.

We drove out of town to the address I had been given.

It was a little building.

"Are you sure this is the address?" Lily asked as she peered at the building mistrustfully.

I didn't blame her at all, the building looked very shady.

"Yes, this is the address," I assure her.

"Why would he leave the city to come stay in a place like this?"

"Maybe he wanted peace and quiet" I suggested.

"in a place like this?" She looked at me as if I was mad.

"Lily, let's just go, so we can ask questions and go. The sooner we leave, the better."

She nodded and clung to me tightly, I patted her hand reassuringly.

"Don't worry, I am here, I won't let anything happen to you."

She nodded but still held on to me tightly.

We walked up to the building, I asked the woman we met there about the man.

Immediately she heard his name, she became apprehensive.

"I don't want any trouble, please leave," she told us.

"We don't want any trouble either, we just need to ask him some questions."

"I don't have any answers for you. Leave," she told us.

"Could you just tell us where he is and we will be out of your way," Lily told her.

She looked at us with a hardened expression.

"The man you are looking for is dead."

"When did he die?"

"five years ago," she replied.

"Please, ma'am, we don't mean any trouble to you or your family. We just needed answers from him, that's all, and we hope you can help us; we are willing to offer financial compensation." I pleaded with her.

"You are not here to cause trouble for us?" she looked skeptical.

"not at all," I replied.

"Okay, what do you want to know? I am not sure how much help I will be able to render though."

"Any help you offer will be greatly appreciated," Lily told her.

"Okay, what do you want to know?"

"He gave my brother-in-law a fake impotence result, which messed up his life and his family."

"I don't know much about anything like that; what I do know is that he told me to leave the city immediately with him and come here, that people were after us."

"People?" I asked.

"Yes, people, he kept saying he had done a deal with the devil, which hadn't gone well. He was a nervous mess before he died."

"How did he die?" I asked.

"He fell off a horse, but I know foul play was involved."

"How can you be so sure?" Lily asked.

"Because he was allergic to horses."
