Chapter 10 - Curiosity

Kyel left. He planned on taking the magic potion class, but he couldn't attend, as it was only for students in the tenth grade and above. Kyel didn't feel disappointed or angry; he had to find a way to get this powder himself. Thoughts swirled in his mind.

One option was to ask Professor Hallote, the professor of magic circles. There was a history between her and the original owner of this body, Jules. Jules was terrible at magic circles, but he used to attend the class because of his target, Mcben Arlott—a genius in drawing magic circles. Talents like his hadn't appeared in decades, and because of the Dark Duke's orders, Kyel had to kill him.

In Jules Vance memories he couldn't come up with what made Arlott an honor student , a student atop his peers, that's what drew Kyel to this , He would eliminate arlott just out of curiosity.

Such a senseless killing.

Kyel attended this particular class because it was Arlott's specialty, and his another reason for targeting Arlott was his simple background. The boy had no family to support him, but he was popular and climbing the ladder of success. After this year, Arlott would move on to the next level, and there wouldn't be many opportunities to meet him. Kyel needed to gather every piece of information about him before implementing his plan.

Kyel's opportunity had come when he discovered Professor Hallote's attraction to young, handsome students. He planned to use Jules's appearance to his advantage, intending to seduce her. The problem was that Jules hadn't known Professor Hallote was using a technique to drain his life force until it was nearly too late.

Kyel thought about using Professor Hallote to get him the powder he needed, as he required it at least twice a week to knock himself out. This would allow his body to rest and compensate for his lack of sleep. But Kyel doubted if Professor Hallote would provide it, especially since she was already giving him full marks in her class, which was more than enough.

Suddenly, he heard a voice—not from a student, but a voice inside his head.

Ding!

[You have been assigned a mission: kill Mcben Arlott without being exposed.]

[Prize: Modified Oganus powder (compatible with the human body; can render its user unconscious for 8 hours without side effects. It will only work on the host's body and won't be effective on others).]

A floating screen displayed these details.

Kyel thought, Damn it, are you using me to eliminate your targets? What benefit is there for me in killing him or letting him live?

[The host can reject the mission, but he will regret it. The powder provided by the system is unmatched by anything available and is highly effective.]

Hmm... I'll see what I can do since I have no other option.

He clicked "Accept."

---

Kyel was now in the magic circles class. Professor Hallote occasionally threw glances his way, but his focus was on someone else—Mcben Arlott. The boy was a typical nerdy seventeen-year-old with an unremarkable appearance, save for the fact that he couldn't take his eyes off magic books.

Kyel activated his second skill, [Keen Observation]. His eyes glowed slightly as he observed Arlott, studying his facial expressions, glances, and gestures. Oh, we've got someone planning a heist, Kyel mused.

He ran his fingers delicately over the wooden table, keenly aware of Arlott's every move. Half an hour later, class ended. Arlott quickly left the classroom, heading toward the boys' dormitory.

Kyel attempted to follow him, but Professor Hallote stepped in his path. "Kyel, hey, sorry about yesterday. I didn't realize you were tir—"

Kyel cut her off. "Professor Hallote, I'm very sorry, but I have something urgent. We can talk later!"

As soon as he was free, he used shadow manipulation to follow Arlott undetected, darting from corner to corner like a ghost. Finally, he spotted Arlott rushing toward his room.

Kyel waited until they reached a secluded area, making sure no one was around since most students were in class. Then he struck, lunging at his prey. But suddenly, Bang!—a force of energy repelled him, throwing him to the ground. Arlott looked back, terrified, finding Kyel sprawled on the floor.

In a trembling voice, Arlott asked, "What are you doing? Why did you touch me?"

Kyel stood, brushing himself off. "What the hell was that? I just touched you, and I was thrown to the ground!"

"You have bad intentions toward me! Stay away from me!" Arlott tried to escape, but Kyel quickly tripped him with a kick to his legs, sending him sprawling. Arlott hurriedly began drawing a magic circle with something resembling ash.

"I saw you. You stole that book. How did you manage it without detection, especially from the professor? I know you took it," Kyel accused. "The book vanished as if it was never there. I saw you drawing something like a magic circle."

"You thief!" Kyel declared.

Arlott's face twisted with a desperate, ugly expression as he stammered, "I swear I didn't steal it! I only wanted to read it and put it back. Please, let me go."

Kyel shook his head. "No, you're coming with me."

But in that moment, Arlott vanished. Kyel looked around, incredulous. Then, he spotted Arlott reappearing at the entrance of the boys' dormitory. Kyel muttered, "How? Hmm?"

Realizing his last option, Kyel raised his voice, "Mcben Arlott, if you don't stop, I'll go straight to Professor Hallote and tell her you stole a book from her collection!"

Arlott froze and glanced back, a look of shock on his face. "He knows me... damn it!"

Kyel smirked, "Good."
