Chapter 13 - Fake Smile

The diary that Arlott found was hot. "Really, this is Professor Megan. Her fantasies are running wild," Arlott thought. He spent some time with the diaries and forgot that he was in the apartment of one of the professors.

He heard the sound of footsteps and was frightened, deciding to quickly escape before he was discovered.

This is what happened: Arlott stored all the items in the storage ring. Arlott's mentality was sound: 'You committed theft, a bad act. If you fall for it , Just continue your work and steal everything, you are guilty anyway.'

"A poor man's hustler's mentality," Arlott sneered to himself.

Arlott returned to his room, getting ready for the night, sorting and arranging the things he would give to Kyel—of course, the unimportant items that Professor Megan Hart had placed as mere decoration.

Tonight was particularly busy, as the students were tied up and evacuated to their dormitories, and a nightly curfew was placed on everyone except the teachers.

News about the break-in and theft of one of the professors, Professor Megan Hart, spread quickly. Someone had forced their way into her apartment and stolen her belongings.

Megan was angry; a strict inspection would be applied to all the rooms. However, it was very difficult, especially since there were thousands of rooms.

The total number of students exceeded 10,000. Perhaps the inspection would take days, and throughout these days, there would be no classes until further notice, in addition to the daily curfew.

Moreover, how could a student escape the surveillance of projection devices that functioned like cameras and monitored everything, even the physical temperature of any person? This raised suspicions that perhaps one of the professors had done it.

But these things did not disturb or disrupt Kyel and Arlott's plans, as the two were set to meet tonight—the night with the most severe supervision.

Currently, it was midnight. Kyel looked out the window. It was quiet, but in the hallways, the sound of footsteps could be heard passing by his door every ten minutes. It was a watch patrol consisting of four guards assigned to each floor.

Kyel knew that getting out the door would be impossible, even with his shadow manipulation skill, especially after learning from the students that there were projection devices that worked like cameras and could monitor body temperature.

The only solution for him was to exit through the window. But this seemed like suicide to him. However, he found a solution to this dilemma.

The back tower behind the garden was attached to the children's dormitory, which meant that all he had to do was climb horizontally to the right until he reached it.

The tower had been abandoned for a while and overlooked the cliff.

Fortunately, Kyel had anticipated the situation and events that would occur.

So he was proactive and bought climbing equipment; using it with the shadow manipulation skill, he would be able to stay away from the eyes of any students looking out from the windows in case he encountered one of them.

He opened the window and began his work. The window was small, but he managed to get out nonetheless.

Kyel was lucky; the wind was not what he desired. The strong wind came from the opposite direction and pushed him back.

He almost fell several times, and some of the students looking out of their windows seemed to see something black like a shadow flying.

Kyel resembled a black crow struggling against the wind current. He himself did not know why he was doing this, why he was fighting in this life. When did he begin to care a little?

Even though the feeling of neutrality and indifference controlled him, and his feelings, emotions, and some of his five senses were sealed, perhaps his constant thoughts about that strange dream resembling torment drove him to do this. Perhaps that was what made him move forward.

Perhaps he did not want to lose track of that strange dream, which was getting further away from him day after day as he spent this new life.

That dream that gradually seemed to be just a dream and not a reality he experienced.

That eternal dream.

After suffering, he found himself close to the attached tower.

There were rumors from the rooms near the tower that they heard frightening sounds coming from it.

Some said they were ghosts dating back to the past. There was a story that said two people had committed suicide from there and jumped off the cliff.

Kyel reached the door and entered through one of the open stone windows. There was a spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower.

The old tower served as a navigation and observation tower.

There was a strong wind blowing from the tower, preventing him from climbing, but Kyel continued until he reached the top of the tower, which resembled a small room with a 360-degree observation area in all directions. The wind was strong from all sides—a suffocating wind.

"You're late. I thought you wouldn't come. Take your things. I'm going. After today, we don't know each other." A voice fell from nowhere into Kyel's ears, and Arlott appeared as if from thin air.

Kyel faked a surprised tone. "Amazing! Even after seeing it again and knowing what it's capable of—what a magical item, Arlott! Why are you in such a hurry to go?!"

Kyel turned around, as if captivated by the views from the tower, and then said, "Isn't it a stunning view? Why don't you stay for a while and enjoy this view with me?"

Kyel peeked over his shoulder, adding, "Especially since it's your first time here, don't you think?"

With a fake smile, a deceitful smile, an evil smile, Kyel stared into Arlott's eyes.
