Chapter 6 - [THE WEIGHT OF BARGAINS]

[Ascendance: The Journey to Type 7. Ch_006]

The Starship of War drifted through the abyss of space, a formidable vessel forged for dominance. Its sleek, black hull glimmered with a metallic sheen, reflecting the vast tapestry of stars surrounding it.

Kael stood at the command console, his heart racing with a mix of excitement and anxiety.

Today was the day they would negotiate the sale of this magnificent ship to the notorious Baroness Astrid Velorium.

"Ready for the biggest deal of your life, kid?" Orin, the grizzled Syndicate agent,

asked as he adjusted his gloves, his tone gruff yet encouraging.

Kael nodded, his gaze fixed on the ship's controls. "I've never sold a starship before.

What if she doesn't like it?"

Orin chuckled, the sound echoing off the steel walls. [clank] "She's not going to be able to resist.

This beauty is a marvel. Just remember: confidence is key."

With a final nod from Orin, Kael turned his attention back to the cockpit. [whoosh]

The engines hummed steadily beneath him, a rhythmic sound that vibrated through the ship.

As they approached the docking bay on Veloria Prime, Kael felt a mixture of dread and thrill surging within him.

This was it—the moment that could change everything.

The landing ramp descended with a heavy [thud] as Kael and his crew stepped out onto the bustling platform of Veloria Prime

The air buzzed with energy, a cacophony of voices and machinery filling the space.

Towering crystal spires reached toward the heavens, illuminated by the soft glow of neon signs advertising various wares.

"Stick close," Orin instructed, leading the way through the throng of traders and mercenaries.

"We're meeting Baroness Velorium in her estate. Keep your eyes peeled."

As they navigated the crowded streets, Kael couldn't help but feel a sense of awe.

The wealth and opulence of Veloria Prime contrasted starkly with his home in the slums of Astrapolis.

He felt like a small fish in a vast ocean, and yet, today, he was here to sell a warship.

They arrived at the Baroness's estate, a sprawling mansion adorned with intricate designs and

guarded by a small army of mercenaries. Kael felt a chill run down his spine as they approached the entrance,

the guards eyeing them with suspicion. [clank]

"Orin," one of the guards called, stepping forward. "You're expected. But the boy—"

"He's with me," Orin replied firmly, a hint of pride in his voice. "The Baroness has taken a liking to him."

The guard nodded reluctantly, stepping aside to allow them entry. Inside,

the mansion was filled with luxurious furnishings, plush carpets,

and elegant chandeliers casting a warm glow over the ornate decor.

"Impressive, huh?" Orin said, noticing Kael's awestruck expression. [whoosh] "But don't let it fool you. The Baroness is dangerous."

They were ushered into a grand meeting room, where the Baroness sat atop a raised dais,

draped in rich silks.

Her face was partially obscured by a golden veil, but her piercing gaze was unmistakable.

She exuded power and authority, an aura that made Kael's heart race.

"Ooh, Orin and Ashvale. Welcome," she said, her voice both smooth and authoritative.

"Now, let's pick up where we left off last time."

"Indeed, my lady," Orin replied, gesturing toward the crew members who began unveiling the holographic display of the Starship of War. [beep] A 3D model materialized in the center of the room, rotating slowly to showcase its formidable design.

Baroness Velorium leaned forward, her eyes narrowing as she examined the display.

"A fine piece of machinery. Tell me more about its features."

Kael stepped forward, taking a deep breath to steady himself. "The Starship of War is equipped with advanced Plasma Cannons, capable of disabling enemy vessels in a single shot. Its Graviton Shields can withstand considerable firepower, and it has a cloaking system that renders it nearly invisible."

Baroness Velorium's interest piqued as Kael spoke, but her expression remained impassive. "And the crew? Are they capable?"

Orin chimed in, "Trained fighters, my lady. They've survived engagements with Celestial drones and lived to tell the tale."

Kael swallowed hard, feeling the pressure of the Baroness's gaze. "We've also installed the latest Quantum Fusion Reactor, ensuring the ship's engines can sustain extended travel and combat scenarios without faltering."

Baroness Velorium raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A significant investment. And what are you asking for this warship?"

Kael exchanged a glance with Orin, who nodded imperceptibly. "We're looking for 420 million credits," Kael said, his voice steady despite the weight of the moment.

The Baroness regarded him with an inscrutable expression. [silence] "A steep price. Tell me, why should I not simply take it?"

Kael felt a shiver run through him, and he quickly added, "Because the Starship of War represents more than just a weapon.

It's a statement of power—a tool for expansion. With it, you could solidify your position in the region and deter your enemies."

Orin nodded, a hint of approval in his gaze. "This ship will not only serve as a weapon but as a symbol of your influence."

Baroness Velorium leaned back, contemplating their words.

"Very well. I'll consider your offer. But know this: I will not be threatened or coerced. If you waste my time, you will regret it."

Kael felt the tension in the air thickening, the stakes rising higher than ever. "I assure you, my lady,

we come with only the best intentions."

The Baroness studied Kael for a long moment before a slow smile crept across her face, her voice dripping with intrigue. "You show promise, boy. Perhaps you will survive this venture after all."

After what felt like hours, Baroness Velorium finally leaned forward, a glint of mischief in her eyes.

"I will offer you 400 million credits for the ship. Take it or leave it."

Kael thought, [Now that's the answer I was looking for]

Kael glanced at Orin, who gave a slight nod of encouragement.

"We'll accept your offer, my lady," Kael replied, trying to keep his voice steady.

"Good," the Baroness said, waving her hand dismissively.

"You'll receive half now, the remainder once the ship is delivered to my docking bay."

With the agreement struck, the atmosphere in the room shifted from tense negotiations

to a more relaxed camaraderie.

Baroness Velorium gestured to her attendants, who began to prepare the financial transfer. [shuffling]

Kael felt a rush of exhilaration. They had done it. They were walking away with a fortune.

As they made their way back to the Imperium Leviathan, Kael's mind raced with the implications of their success.

Selling the ship meant they could secure their future—maybe even elevate their status within the Syndicate.

"Kael," Orin said, breaking him from his thoughts. "You did well back there. Your confidence impressed the Baroness."

"Thanks," Kael replied, still buzzing with excitement. "I just hope she follows through with the payment."

"Oh, she will," Orin assured him. "The Baroness values her reputation above all else. Cross her,

and she'll make you wish you'd never been born."

Kael nodded, the weight of Orin's words sinking in. "I won't forget."

Once back aboard the Imperium Leviathan, the crew gathered around, anticipation brimming in the air.

Orin called for attention. [clap] "Listen up, everyone! We struck a deal. The Baroness is now the proud owner of our Starship of War"

Cheers erupted from the crew. [cheers and claps] Kael felt a surge of pride as his fellow crew members celebrated their success.

"Once the transfer is finalized and we receive the credits, 50% goes to the Syndicate,

and the rest will be divided among all of you," Orin said, a satisfied grin spreading across his face.

"Each of you will walk away with a significant sum. For some, this is life-changing money."

As the crew members exchanged excited whispers, Kael felt a moment of reflection.

This deal wasn't just about money; it represented their hard work, their struggles, and their growth as a team.

"Kael!" one of the crew members called, breaking his thoughts. "What's next for you? Any plans?"

Kael smiled, glancing around at the familiar faces. "I'm just focused on getting back home for now.

I want to share the news with Elara and Caelan."

The crew's excitement was palpable, but Kael's heart began to race at the thought of returning home. [thump thump] He missed his family dearly and couldn't wait to share the good news.

The Imperium Leviathan roared back to life as they set their course for Vesperia.

The engines hummed a steady rhythm, and Kael found himself lost in thought, contemplating the significance of what they had accomplished.

As they sailed through hyperspace, Kael turned to Orin. "What do you think the Baroness will do with the ship?"

Orin shrugged. "If she's smart, she'll use it to expand her influence. But who knows? In this game, anything can happen."

Kael nodded, pondering the dangerous politics of the galaxy. "I just hope it doesn't come back to bite us."

Finally, they exited hyperspace and approached Vesperia.

The familiar blue hues of their home planet filled Kael with nostalgia and warmth. [whoosh]

As they touched down on familiar soil, Kael felt a mixture of anticipation and nerves bubbling within him.

He couldn't wait to see Elara and Caelan again and tell them about their success.

The crew disembarked, a buzz of excitement filling the air. Kael spotted his aunt and uncle waiting for him, their faces lighting up with joy as they rushed toward him. [footsteps]

"Kael! You're back!" Elara exclaimed, throwing her arms around him.

Kael hugged her tightly, feeling the warmth of home enveloping him. "I missed you both so much!"

Caelan stepped in, a proud smile on his face. "We're so glad you're home, son. You look well."

Kael grinned, his heart swelling with pride. "I have some incredible news to share!"

Elara looked at him, her eyes shining with curiosity. "What is it?"

"We sold the Starship of War!" Kael announced, his excitement bubbling over. "For 400 million credits!"

Elara gasped, stepping back in disbelief. "That's incredible, Kael!"

Caelan's expression shifted to one of pride. "Our boy's making a name for himself!"

Kael nodded, his heart swelling. "It's not just about the money, though. I held my own with Baroness Velorium. She's a force to be reckoned with, and That's Not all My Share Of Money Is 8 Million Credits. Now we Can Buy a Descent House"

Elara beamed at him, her eyes shimmering with pride. "You've grown so much, Kael.

We're so proud of you."

Just then, Kael noticed the slight glow around Elara, her presence radiating warmth and comfort.

"Is everything alright?" he asked, sensing something different about her.

Elara's expression softened. "Actually… there's something else we need to tell you."

Kael felt a tingle of anticipation. "What is it?"

Elara took a deep breath, placing a hand over her belly. "You're going to be a big brother."

For a moment, Kael could only stare, his heart pounding in disbelief. "Wait… what?"

"Yes," Elara affirmed, her smile unwavering. "I'm pregnant."

A wave of happiness washed over Kael. "A little sibling?" he repeated,

his voice rising with excitement. "I can't believe it!"

Caelan stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with pride. "You're going to be an amazing brother, Kael.

Just look at what you've accomplished already."

Kael felt a surge of warmth, enveloping him like a comforting blanket.

"I can't wait! This is going to be incredible."

As they celebrated, laughter and joy filled their modest home, the sound echoing through the walls.

[laughter] Kael realized that this was just the beginning, and whatever challenges lay ahead,

they would face them together as a family.

As they celebrated, unaware of the impending threat.
