Freya arrived just in time to see one of the umbra wolves sink its jaws into James.
"Jay!" she cried, her voice trembling with fear. Without wasting a second, she leapt into the air, summoning a powerful gust of wind as she dived back down.
Landing hard in the midst of the chaos, she struck the ground with her fists, sending the wolves flying. In an instant, she dashed toward the wolf still clutching James in its jaws.
"Let him go!" she shouted.
Umbra wolves were notoriously hard to fight. They could phase into shadows at will, becoming untouchable. However, as long as they gripped prey with their fangs or claws, they remained solid.
In a swift move, Freya grabbed the wolf's head, conjuring a wind blade in her hand. She drove it into the creature's skull.
The wolf howled in pain, releasing James as it dissolved into shadows and disappeared. But Freya knew this was temporary.
