James slowly opened his eyes, greeted by a blanket of darkness. But his vision quickly adapted as he glanced around.
Fragments of a conversation with his alter ego flitted through his mind, but he shook it off.
'No point dwelling on it,' he thought, pushing the memory aside.
Sitting up, he took in his surroundings. The rocky walls and earthy smell left little doubt.
"A cave?" he muttered, frowning in confusion. A closer inspection helped him piece things together.
His body was battered—bandages wrapped over wounds from more than just the wolf's bite. Scratches lined his arms, and though his body ached, the pain wasn't unbearable.
Then, his gaze fell on the rubble and debris sealing the tunnel. The sight filled in some of the gaps.
But something was missing.
"Freya?" he called softly, his voice echoing faintly as he shuffled around. There was no sign of the elf.
