Songlin Town is situated higher in the west and lower in the east, with Nanwan Village at the easternmost and lowest part of the town. Before the existence of Nanwan Lake, every summer, during the rainy season, Nanwan Village would suffer from serious waterlogging. The accumulated water from other villages would flow into Nanwan Village, leading to reduced crop yields and even total crop failures at times.
The villagers were in misery, so Liu Changhe's grandfather, Liu Chongxi, led the villagers to dig a large lake to the south of the village as a reservoir. It took the entirety of autumn and winter to complete Nanwan Lake.
After the creation of Nanwan Lake, Nanwan Village never experienced waterlogging again. Liu Chongxi had accomplished a great feat, earning him a good reputation.
