Chapter 1 - Injured

Deep in the forests of the great northwest, at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains, lay a picturesque little village.

The village was nestled in a beautiful valley, with dense snow cedar forests growing on the gradually rising slopes behind it, and a small river at the entrance, where the meltwater from the snow-capped mountains and glaciers flowed past day and night. Further afield was a vast expanse of grassland that stretched to the outside of the valley, merging with the wide prairies beyond.

By the end of August, autumn was already thick in the air, and the snowy peaks of the distant Tianshan Mountains were visible everywhere. The grasslands slowly shed their green, turning from green to yellow---the scenery became even more beautiful.

In the afternoons, the small mountain village was always windy, and the blue and yellow mixed grass danced with the wind.

At the edge of the grassland to the northwest of the village, where it met the forest, a person dressed in the same color as the grassland stumbled forward, but after running a few steps, they collapsed from exhaustion, struggled to get up, ran a few more steps, and fell again. After several attempts, they finally lay motionless in the grass.

A long trail of blood marked the path where the person's body had fallen, staining the grass red.

The wind continued to blow, the grass swaying even more fiercely, and the sky began to change. The sky, which had been a mix of clouds and sunshine, was now covered by large swathes of black clouds. Those with experience knew that the weather was about to change.

A young man with a bamboo basket on his shoulder and a sun hat on his head emerged from the snow cedar forest behind the village.

After looking up at the rolling clouds, he quickened his pace toward the village below.

The young man seemed to be in a good mood, humming an unknown tune as he walked with a spring in his step.

After walking briskly for a while, the young man slowed down and carefully examined the nearby grass.

"Huh? Why is there blood here?"

He crouched down, closely inspecting the bloodstains on the grass, and dipped his finger in the blood to smell it.

The blood was fresh, not yet fully coagulated, and it didn't seem like animal blood.

Frowning, he immediately followed the trail of blood.

Soon, he found the injured person lying in the grass.

He quickly stepped forward and touched the neck of the person on the ground.

The carotid artery was pulsing; the person was still alive, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

The young man quickly turned the person lying face down over with swift but gentle movements.

Upon seeing the face of the person on the ground, the young man paused.

It was a woman, and she looked quite young, with short hair that covered most of her face.

He brushed the hair from the woman's face, revealing her pale countenance.

The woman's long eyelashes trembled slightly, her eyelids moved, and her eyebrows furrowed tightly, but she didn't open her eyes.

The young man also immediately saw where the woman was injured; there was a bloody hole in the middle of her chest, oozing blood, staining a large area of her body red, with even more blood on the ground. Without hesitation, he took out a small bottle of medicine from his chest, unscrewed the cap, poured the medicine on the bubbling wound, and spread it evenly with his finger.

Strangely enough, after the powder was applied, the wound quickly stopped bleeding.

The young man then noticed another wound on the woman, a bloody hole on the left thigh, but the bleeding there had mostly stopped, with only a little seepage.

"Who is this woman? Why is she injured and lying here?" he wondered.

Amidst his confusion, he noticed a few personal items on the woman, including a handgun.

After seeing a badge on the woman's clothing, the young man didn't hesitate to pick her up and run down the hillside.

The woman was quite tall and not light, at least over a hundred pounds, but the young man still ran fast, as if on level ground.

The sky completely darkened, the wind howled, and then large raindrops began to fall.

In just a moment, the small mountain village was completely engulfed in wind and rain, shrouded in haze.

The few people who had been outside disappeared from sight.

Soon, the young man's clothes were soaked through, and the woman in his arms was also drenched by the rain.

After running past the small path by the village, he finally reached a small house built on a flat area on the hillside.

The house was where the young man and his grandfather lived, and his grandfather was not home these days, leaving him alone.

Kicking open the gate to the small courtyard in front of the house, he rushed in with the injured woman and carefully placed her on the dry wooden bed, then ran to lock the door. By then, his clothes were soaked through, and there wasn't a dry spot on the woman's body either.

The woman was still unconscious, her face even paler from the blood loss and the rain, devoid of any color.

Her wet clothes clung to her body, revealing her exquisite curves.

The young man, who had never been in close contact with a woman, felt his mouth go dry at the sight of her undulating figure.

But he quickly dismissed the distractions and prepared to start treatment.

He efficiently stripped the soaked outer garments from the injured woman, and soon, the alluring view was fully exposed.

As the young man's hands touched the woman's body, he could clearly feel the softness and elasticity of her skin.

Suppressing the agitation from seeing a woman's body up close for the first time, he grabbed a blanket and covered her body.

Then he quickly stripped off his own wet clothes and changed into a clean set, not bothering to tidy up, and hurriedly took out the medicine chest from the cabinet, ready to treat the woman.

Outside, the storm continued to rage, with torrential rain pouring down.

The bloodstains left by the woman's injury and along the way were completely washed away by the storm, leaving no trace.Deep in the forests at the southern foot of the Tianshan Mountains in the great northwest, there was a picturesque little village.
