Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Tutorial(7)

Max awoke on Floor 36 with a surge of energy, his curiosity piqued as he glanced at the new Shop feature in his system. The screen displayed a simple message: "Shop will open at Level 35." He felt a sense of anticipation at the thought of a new level of accessibility, a chance to directly purchase items or skills if needed. Still, his primary focus was the journey ahead, and without further delay, he stepped forward, ready for what this floor held.

As he progressed, a realization dawned on him: his sword felt slightly restrictive in close-quarters combat. He needed something with more flexibility, a weapon that could adapt to his immediate needs. Channeling his Bone Manipulation skill, he focused on altering the sword's structure, envisioning a blade that could extend at will.

The result was a segmented blade that responded to his Bone Manipulation, allowing him to extend it or retract it as he pleased. He gave it a few test swings, feeling the weapon respond seamlessly to his intentions.

System Notification: You have obtained the skill Basic Sword Movements.

With this new skill, Max felt an intuitive boost in handling his weapon; his movements grew smoother, and his strikes more precise. The system seemed to be granting skills based on his actions, a realization that only fueled his drive.

Floor 37: The Lava World and Trial of Fire

The atmosphere shifted drastically as he stepped onto Floor 37. The air thickened with heat, and an oppressive weight pressed down on him. Beneath his feet, patches of molten lava cracked and bubbled, casting the entire area in an eerie, orange glow. The walls dripped with searing heat, and small bursts of steam erupted sporadically from fissures in the ground. This wasn't just a test of combat—it was an endurance trial.

As Max carefully navigated the volcanic terrain, he could feel his skin prickle from the intense temperature. Even with his enhanced stamina, the sweltering heat felt suffocating, draining his energy with each step.

He quickly made his way to a relatively stable patch of rock, taking a few steady breaths and feeling the heat sap at his endurance. After a few grueling minutes in the fiery environment, a familiar chime resonated within his mind.

System Notification: You have gained the skill Fire Resistance (Level 1).

The relief was immediate. The oppressive heat no longer felt as intense; his body was adapting. The Fire Resistance skill seemed to bolster his defenses against the environment, granting him enough resilience to continue forward without feeling completely drained. With each step, the skill subtly strengthened, leveling up as he adjusted to the smoldering terrain.

Just as he was getting comfortable, a movement in the distance caught his eye. Emerging from the lava was a pack of creatures—Magma Serpents, their bodies comprised of molten rock and fire. Their scales glistened with molten heat, and their eyes glowed with a malevolent hunger. One by one, the serpents slithered through the lava, circling him and tightening their approach. This wasn't a simple battle; it was a fiery ambush.

Combat Begins: Testing Electropoison Blade and Basic Sword Movements

Max's heart raced as the Magma Serpents closed in, their movements synchronized and deadly. Their bodies shimmered with heat, each scale dripping with molten rock, and as they encircled him, he could feel the temperature rising.

He gripped his segmented blade, the weapon extending with his Bone Manipulation. Just as the largest serpent coiled to strike, he activated his most powerful offensive skill.

Skill: Electropoison Blade Activated.

A thin, glistening blade materialized in his hand, icy yet sparking with electricity, tendrils of venomous energy weaving along its edge. The added poison made the weapon even deadlier in close combat. Without hesitation, he darted toward the nearest serpent, using his agility to close the gap and strike.

The blade met the serpent's molten scales with a searing hiss, slicing clean through the rock and fire. The creature convulsed, writhing as the poison seeped into its core, its body flickering as it tried to resist. Sparks of electricity surged through the beast, amplifying the poison's effect, and within seconds, it collapsed, disintegrating into a smoldering pile of ash.

The other serpents hissed, their molten eyes narrowing as they realized the threat Max posed. They coiled and struck simultaneously, each launching a stream of molten lava in his direction. He leaped back, activating his defensive skill just in time.

Skill: Wind Barrier Activated.

A swirling vortex of wind surrounded him, deflecting the streams of lava and sending them splashing onto the ground around him. The barrier provided just enough protection for him to recalibrate and prepare his next move.

Skill: Basic Sword Movements Activated.

Max moved with fluid precision, each strike calculated and swift. His blade danced through the air, severing one serpent after another, each strike carrying the force of his enhanced skills. The serpents tried to surround him again, but he shifted his stance, his sword extending and retracting as he manipulated it to strike from unexpected angles.

One serpent lunged, but he sidestepped, bringing his blade down in a powerful arc that cleaved its head from its body. Another tried to strike from behind, but he pivoted, driving his Electropoison Blade into its molten core. The poison and electricity coursed through the creature, and it dissolved, leaving only embers behind.

As the last serpent fell, a tremor shook the ground, signaling the approach of a much larger threat.

Boss Encounter: The Inferno Behemoth (Level 60)

The ground beneath him rumbled as the Inferno Behemoth emerged from the lava, towering over him with its colossal, molten form. This was no ordinary creature. It was a fusion of rock and fire, its body ablaze with flames, and its eyes glowed like burning coals. Lava dripped from its body, pooling around it as it prepared to strike.

Max assessed the situation, noting the creature's slow yet powerful movements. He knew he'd need to use every skill at his disposal to bring down this towering beast.

The behemoth let out a deafening roar, and Max felt the heat intensify as it swung a massive, fiery fist in his direction. He dodged, feeling the searing heat as the fist slammed into the ground, sending lava splashing around him.

Skill: Enhanced Reflexes Activated.

Time seemed to slow as Max sidestepped the creature's attacks, each dodge precise, his movements honed to near perfection. He looked for an opening, noting a faint glow in the creature's chest—a core of molten energy that seemed to pulse with life.

He lunged forward, activating his Electropoison Blade and driving it into the creature's leg. The blade hissed and sparked as it made contact, but the behemoth barely flinched. It raised its fist for another swing, and Max was forced to retreat, realizing the creature's resilience was far greater than he had anticipated.

Skill: Poison Mist Activated.

Max released a cloud of toxic gas around the creature, hoping to weaken it. The behemoth roared, its movements slowing as the poison seeped into its body, but it was far from defeated. Max knew he needed a more concentrated attack to reach the creature's core.

With renewed focus, he manipulated his sword, extending it like a spear, and aimed for the pulsing core in the behemoth's chest. He charged, narrowly avoiding a stream of lava as he closed the distance, and with a final thrust, he drove the Electropoison Blade deep into the creature's core.

The behemoth let out a final, earth-shaking roar as the poison, electricity, and ice surged through its core, destabilizing its molten form. Cracks spread across its body, and with a deafening explosion, it collapsed, the lava cooling into solid rock as its life force dissipated.

System Notification: You have gained the skill Lava Resistance (Level 1).

As the dust settled, Max felt a surge of relief. His Fire Resistance had leveled up during the fight, and the new Lava Resistance skill gave him an additional layer of protection in this hellish environment.

With the battle over, he took a moment to breathe, feeling the immense satisfaction of victory. His status window flickered before him, showing the fruits of his recent struggles.
