Chapter 30 - Chapter 29: Preparation and Anticipation

After lunch, the Crimson Vanguard sat around the table, discussing their strategy to defeat the wither. Their recent encounter with the creature had left them rattled but determined. Cedric and Selene watched with admiration as the group dissected their mistakes and formulated a plan to counter the wither's attacks. Although the two friends couldn't join the fight—given that all seven virtual helmets were currently in use by the Crimson Vanguard and their two allies, Eva and Ariel—they were eager to see how the team would tackle the formidable opponent.

"Alright, we'll need to approach this carefully," Kaden began, his eyes glinting with resolve. "If we can keep the wither confined to a small space, we can reduce its mobility and make our hits count."

"Exactly," Gelian added from the counter, clearly impressed with the group's growing understanding of Minecraft tactics. "Having it trapped in a controlled environment means you can limit its flight and force it to stay within range of your attacks. The fewer places it can go, the better your chances."

The Crimson Vanguard nodded in unison, their focus intensifying as they mapped out the specifics of their approach. "We'll need plenty of enchanted weapons and gear," Garrick noted, "along with potions for strength and regeneration. We can't go in without being fully prepared this time."

As the team dispersed to gather resources, Cedric and Selene stayed with Gelian, watching the avatars in the virtual world go to work. Kaden, Garrick, Ronan, Lyra, Eva, and Ariel all split up to grind for supplies: some mined for ores to forge stronger weapons, others searched for lapis lazuli for enchanting, while others collected ingredients to brew the crucial potions.

"Wow, look at them go," Selene said, leaning closer to the screen as Ronan crafted a bow, carefully adding Power and Infinity enchantments to it. "They're taking this so seriously. It almost feels like they're preparing for an actual war."

"Minecraft may look simple," Cedric commented, "but with the level of detail and preparation required for fights like this, it's no wonder people get so immersed. This is more than just a game—it's strategy, teamwork, and execution."

Gelian smiled, nodding. "Exactly. That's one of the things I love about it. The Crimson Vanguard knows what they're doing. They may have failed the first time, but it's clear they're thinking about every detail this time around."

Cedric watched intently as the team worked. "Do you think they have a real shot this time?" he asked, glancing at Gelian. "I mean, the wither is… well, terrifying, to say the least. Even from watching, it looked like it wasn't an easy fight."

Gelian folded his arms thoughtfully. "Honestly, they've got a much better chance now. The key with the wither isn't just having strong weapons but also having a solid plan and the right gear. Enchanted armor will help protect them, and with healing potions, they can sustain through the worst of the wither's attacks. But even then, it won't be easy. It's a battle of endurance."

"But do you think it's possible they'll still fail?" Selene asked, a hint of worry in her voice. "It just seemed so intense… like, even with their best gear, can they actually handle it?"

"Well," Gelian replied, "there's always a chance of failure, especially with the wither. The moment it reaches half-health, it enters a second phase where it becomes even stronger and starts regenerating rapidly. That's the moment that could make or break the fight."

Cedric looked at him, frowning. "Regenerating? So it actually gets harder as they get closer to winning?"

Gelian nodded. "Exactly. When the wither reaches that point, it's no longer affected by arrows, meaning they'll have to switch to close-range combat. It's a risky point in the fight, but if they can get it down quickly in that phase, they'll have a chance."

Selene watched the screen as Lyra brewed health potions, her focus unwavering. "It sounds like they're in for a serious challenge. I mean, they're already going all-out, and there's still a good chance it might not be enough."

"But that's what makes it thrilling, right?" Gelian added, smiling. "Knowing there's a real risk, a chance of failure… it's what makes victory all the more satisfying. And even if they fail, they'll learn from it and adapt. That's the beauty of it."

Cedric and Selene shared a look, both feeling a mix of admiration and nervousness for their friends. "It makes me wonder how many times they'll have to try," Cedric mused. "But I have faith in them. They're a strong team, and with their level of focus, I think they're bound to succeed eventually."

Selene nodded, though a flicker of doubt remained. "I hope so. I mean, it'd be pretty demoralizing to prepare this much only to lose again. But I guess that's part of the adventure. You can't just win every time."

As they continued to watch, Gelian explained more about the strategies for facing the wither. "One other thing they might use to their advantage is golden apples," he said. "Those provide a temporary health boost, which could save them in critical moments. But they're rare and expensive, so they'll need to make the most out of each one."

Cedric nodded. "It's good to know they have options. I'm impressed with how much goes into these battles—there's so much to consider, and even then, it comes down to execution."

"Exactly," Gelian replied. "Every detail counts, especially in a high-stakes fight like this. Each player has to be aware of their role, and everyone has to be on the same page. Even a single mistake can tip the scales against them."

Meanwhile, in the virtual world, the Crimson Vanguard had amassed a sizable stock of resources. Chests were filled with golden apples, enchanted armor, weapons, and an array of potions for healing and strength. The team moved with purpose, each member checking and double-checking their gear, reviewing their strategy, and ensuring they were ready for the grueling battle ahead.

Finally, after hours of preparation, Kaden called the group together. His voice was steady, but his expression was intense. "Alright, everyone, we've done everything we can to get ready. We have our enchanted weapons, armor, potions, and golden apples. We know what to expect, and we know our roles. Let's go out there and give it everything we've got."

The team let out a collective cheer, their spirits high despite the looming challenge. The Crimson Vanguard had prepared for this fight with everything they had, and they knew they couldn't afford to hold back. This was their moment to prove their strength and skill, to overcome the terrifying creature that had bested them once before.

Cedric and Selene watched as the team made their way to the cave where they would find the wither. They could feel the tension building, the weight of anticipation as the Crimson Vanguard prepared to confront their fears and take on the monstrous boss once more.

And as the team reached the designated spot, Kaden looked around at his friends, a fierce determination in his gaze. "This is it," he said, his voice filled with resolve. "Let's show this creature what the Crimson Vanguard is made of."

The wither began to materialize, dark energy filling the air and the familiar, chilling sounds echoing through the cavern. The Crimson Vanguard stood ready, weapons drawn, hearts racing, fully aware of the battle that awaited them.

And this time, they wouldn't be backing down.
