Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Layla had organized her birthday party even with her mother's financial help and had forcibly invited him.

- Layla, you know I'm not very outgoing.

- Yes but tonight is your best friend's birthday party and you have to be with me whether you like it or not. Of course I invited other relatives of the family but you are the most important to me and you know it very well. So wear, for me, this beautiful dress and come with me. And don't even think about blending into the crowd, you probably won't make it with such an outfit. And it's done on purpose.

- Tell me at least that we don't go in luxury mode?

- My mother sent a driver for me, so I think so.

- Oh my god... Good just for you.

- Thank you!!!! You my beautiful, I love you.

- Oh no, there are way too many people for me...

- Violet, this is not the time to change your mind. Come on come.

She entered with her friend on her arm, all smiling and greeted all her guests. Violet felt too much but she at best hid her discomfort of being among all these strangers.

Suddenly, in the distance, she recognized Trevor and... Cameron No, it couldn't be possible, she thought, how could he be there when Layla had promised him that he would be far too busy with his things since his return.

The two men advanced towards them.

- Good evening little sister. Said Trevor.

She advanced to hug him before smiling at the elder.

- Happy birthday Layla.

- If you knew how happy I am that you are here. I missed you a lot.

- Me too, but I also knew that if I didn't come this time when you were aware of my return, I was going to spend a quarter of an hour.

- That's it. Glad to see that you still know me so well.

- Good evening Violet, said Cameron with a goal in white when he saw the young woman uncomfortable during their reunion.

- Good evening Cameron, good evening Trevor.

- Good evening Violet, you are lovely tonight. Trevor said with a friendly smile.

- Thanks to whom do you think? You know that our dear Violet does not like parties and does not pay great attention to her clothing style, except to go to work. So I forced her hand and bought her two beautiful dresses. I forced him to choose one between the two. And I must admit that this one is my favorite.

- Thanks again Layla, but tonight it was an exception and you know it. Layla replied, carefully avoiding Cam's gaze she felt on her.

- Since you're just back from a long trip, I'll leave you alone, said Layla, addressing her older brother, and go greet my guests with Trevor.

She turned to her friend with an affectionate smile.

- Violet, excuse me a few minutes, I'm going to greet the others and as I know you don't like talking to strangers, which is quite normal, I'm going to leave you with Cameron.

Then she leaned into his ear with a mischievous smile.

- I'm sure you have a lot to say to yourself.

Layla disappeared in a few seconds from Trevor's arm. Leaving them both alone to Cam's great pleasure.

- How are you?

- Well, as you can see, I'm fine. And king you came back for what reason? And don't try to tell me it's for your sister because we both know that if you really missed your family, you would have come back much earlier.

- It's true you're completely right. It's for a completely different reason. Since anyway, I could just call my sister if I missed her so much. Besides, I learned from her that she is your assistant.

- Yes it's true.

Violet wondered why they were there talking about banalities when they had much more important subjects in mind. But knowing him, he surely deliberately avoided the discussion for a reason that only he knew.

She looked at her shore and glanced at her friend.

- Is there a problem? Cam asked, feeling her nervous at his touch.

- I...thought about the fact that I have work tomorrow and that I won't be able to stay too late even if it's to please Layla.

- She will understand. But are you sure you don't say that especially to avoid me?

- If I really wanted to avoid you I will have already left for at least ten minutes. Even if I must admit that I thought about it.

- I suspected it.

He showed a seductive smile that gave him chills.

Three hours later, it was with discretion that she left the festivities and went to her car. After their short exchange, she was determined to avoid Cameron's contact as much as possible otherwise she knew that she would not last long before succumbing a second time. And she wanted to avoid that at all costs.

- What are you trying to avoid at all costs? Or rather who?

She turned around and saw Cameron moving towards her. She prayed that he would not have heard her thoughts, if they had said them out loud.

- Uh...I wanted to avoid you so as not to cause pain to Layla.

- I will explain to him.

- I have to go home now.

- You didn't eat anything.

How could he know that when for half the evening, he had gone to greet guests?

- Wait, did you monitor me?

- A little yes.

- I will eat at home. I wasn't very hungry but I snacked.

He approached her and rewarded her with a kiss on the cheek before finally letting her go. Once inside, she lowered the window with a mocking expression.

- You still haven't told me why you came back. I know you're now a businessman but that's not the only thing that brings you, right?

He lowered his head to his level and smiled before answering him honestly.

- I came back for you Violet.
