Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Following her incident, Violet reluctantly moved in with Cameron, which delighted him.

- I'm going to open the door. She announced when she heard the doorbell ring.

She opened the door to James and Trevor who smiled at her as if they had been waiting for her to come for a long time.

- Hello boys and before you ask, I was forced to come here so no comment.

- Yes, but admit that you feel safer here.

- I'm not going to deny it. It must be said that your brother has his own ways of protecting someone dear to him.

- If you're talking about the car at your disposal and the two bodyguards, believe me when I tell you that it's still nothing of my abilities.

She turned around and saw her walking towards her best friend to hug him. He then gave his brother a little hug before closing the door.

- So, have you finished settling in Violet or are we disturbing you?

- No don't worry James, I'm done. Layla came before and helped me. Thank you for worrying about her.

- James has always been my only kind and caring friend. And he's the only one I have left.

- Oh yeah? Because where did the others go?

- It's simple. One of the two, I threatened to kill him if he hurt my sister because at the time he was going out with Layla which was no longer the case after two months. As for the other one, it's simple he's in prison for rape and assault and the victim of the assault is right in front of you. Cameron finished, giving Violet a knowing look, who immediately remembered that episode from college.

- Wait, what? Have you ever been assaulted? At this rate, you're going to become a regular at the police station.

- At least that's one out of two who's in prison. James retorted. What did you do with the recent one? He asked, turning to Cameron who had joined Violet to help her serve drinks.

- Thanks to my kindness, he's just in custody in a cell to help him think about his actions and will then be interned for at least a year.

Trevor straightened up, looking at his brother and her.

- Thanks to your kindness?! And when he kills you next time, he'll be nice then too?

- Trevor, don't say things like that, come on! James retorted.

His brother gave him a murderous look before answering.

- He won't have that chance because I'll never leave her alone again so you can keep your negative thoughts to yourself.

- No but you do realize that putting him in custody won't do any good.

- I know but I wanted to please him but that doesn't mean I'll let him go free.

- Thank goodness.

Violet observed Trevor silently trying to find out if behind his exasperation, he wasn't actually hiding something much more serious.

- You won't have a wife anytime soon with such an unpleasant character. She intervened, pointing at him with an exasperated look.

They settled down and let a heavy silence hang for a moment before Violet straightened up and looked at them all as if she were dreading something serious.

- Okay, boys, it's time to stop trying to hide something from me that I know won't be nice to hear. So I'm listening.

- Still as perceptive as I can see. James replied with a small smile.

- I think you should sit down because you're going to need it.

- I'm fine standing up, thank you. Well, you're going to talk or I'm going to have to force someone.

- When I was in Sicily, I met your sister who had supposedly disappeared for 8 years.

Violet looked at him like he had gone crazy before bursting out laughing.

- Very funny! That's the worst joke I've ever heard! No, but seriously, what's going on?

- We're completely serious. Answer this one.

- And you know as well as I do, despite all these years, that when Cameron is serious; it's because it's a serious situation.

She looked at them in turn then stared at Cameron for a long time before realizing the obvious. No... that couldn't be true. Eight years ago, after her first year of university abroad, her sister, Maddy, had not given any news and had disappeared from the radar. As if something had happened to her.

- So you are really serious. You saw my big sister in Sicily.

- Yes and I don't think that seeing her again will bring you as much joy as you imagine.

- And why is that?

- Because she is a prostitute and a hitman.

Cameron sighed, annoyed by his younger brother's attitude and ever so delicate answers. He closed his eyes for a brief moment before opening them abruptly when he heard a dull noise. Violet was now sitting on the floor, her eyes staring into space.

- I told you it would have been better if you sat down.

He stood up and lifted her slightly by the shoulders before making her sit on the coffee table.

- Now, I had expected anything but that... what is she...

- Violet, look at me.

- Tell me one thing, if you tell me that... I hope it's not to tell me afterwards that you slept with her among your conquests by buying her services?

Cameron's gaze became icy before he bothered to answer.

- If it's to tell me things like that, I think we can already stop the discussion. I have dignity and respect for those I love as well as for myself. So no I didn't touch him.

- It was rather she who wanted to touch him. Trevor retorted.

- You never hold back from adding a you do you? James asked looking at him almost angry from his always badly timed inter.

- Wait how is it her?

- Well what? You take ages to tell her everything so I might as well speed up when I can.

- HOW IS IT HER?!

This time Violet couldn't take it anymore and shook Cameron slightly to stop the torture.

- The moment she knew I was in the country, she used all possible means to get close to me and offer me her services. In exchange, she wanted to buy me so that I wouldn't tell you the truth.

- Well, it's about time. Trevor sighed, rolling his eyes.

- Trevor, you open it again and I promise you that you'll receive my punch in the face. Cameron got angry, giving his brother a murderous look.
