After the contract was signed and their vows were completed, the parchment dissolved into shimmering particles of light. The fragments hovered momentarily in the air before splitting into two streams. One flowed into Lucifer, the other into Seraphina. As the fragments entered their bodies, each felt a tingling sensation ripple through their bodies, and both shivered—a strange cold reached deep into their souls.
Lucifer stretched his body, his glowing eyes narrowing as the sensation subsided. A faint smirk, like always, played on his lips, though he had a poker face. Seraphina could guess what he was thinking.
"I can break the contract now," she said. "Go more than five feet away from me and it will break immediately."
