'I can't believe I've been reborn. I'll write all the wrongs, mom. I promise I won't make you die of grief in this lifetime.' Roxanne swore inwardly.
"Let go of me, Roxanne. Let go…" With her mom's angry voice seeping into her ears, Roxanne could only assure her in a small voice.
"I know I messed up and lost all our shares in the company, mom. But I promise I will get it back. No one deserves to lay their hands on father's sweat and blood!" Roxanne quickly rushed out of the bedroom after saying those words.
Audrey Winslow was pissed with her daughter for gambling away the family's shares in the company. Roxanne had rushed home earlier that afternoon, crying her eyes out.
Apparently, someone scammed her out of her family's shares, and she had less than twenty-four hours before they could lose it completely.
After breaking the news to her mother, Roxanne rushed to her room and locked herself there. After crying herself to sleep, Sebastian's assistant came looking for Roxanne, and her mother could only get her.
However, after Roxanne rushed out of the room at such top speed, Audrey decided to let her be. She would definitely find the person outside, anyway.
Roxanne was busily fumbling with her car keys, as her hands were trembling. However, before she could open the car door, a voice addressed her from behind.
"Ms Winslow…"
"Shit! The divorce document… That time, I received it right here. Has nothing changed since my rebirth?" Roxanne mumbled the words under her breath, ignoring the words of her husband's assistant.
He called her Ms Winslow, instead of Mrs Sinclair. In his eyes, Roxanne had no qualms about signing the divorce document. After all, she has been requesting the same since the day they tied the knot.
"The boss wants you to sign this." With the document pushed toward her so carelessly, Roxanne didn't complain, but accepted it silently.
However, the young man was still standing there.
'Sebastian, I may be too late in preventing you from drafting this, but I will not allow this divorce. I owe you a lifetime of love and joy. Please, don't push me away.'
Roxanne grabbed the edges of the paper tightly, crumpling it in the process.
'In my past life, I signed this with a beaming smile, thinking I was finally free. But now, I know better. I don't want a divorce.'
"Ms Winslow…" The assistant called out to her once more, jolting her from her thoughts. "I need to return the signed document to the lawyer."
The young man held no regard for Roxanne, hence, he only wished for her to sign the document. That way, he would stop breathing the same air as her.
"Lambert Chuck…!" Roxanne fixed a hateful gaze on the young man, looking him up and down. Her stare was so scary that the assistant took an unconscious step back.
"You are nothing but a pesky fly I can squash with two fingers." Roxanne began her act, trying to find out if the young man had already betrayed her husband in this lifetime.
The day of her death was three years away, and Roxanne felt that, just maybe the bastard was yet to betray Sebastian.
However, the assistant's reaction proved her theory wrong. Lambert scoffed at her words, glaring at her defiantly. He felt that she was the ant to be squashed, not him. Even though he didn't speak the words, Roxanne could see it written all over his face.
"Ms Winslow, just sign the papers and hand them back to me." He cut her off flippantly.
'Tsk!" An eerie smile crept onto Roxanne's face as she regarded the young man. 'You have always been a rat, huh? Consider me your karma, Lambert. I will make you pay for everything.'
As Roxanne's thoughts got deeper and deeper, her gaze turned colder, scaring Lambert.
"Mr Chuck, why do I feel that you are more concerned about my divorce than I am?" Lambert was taken aback by Roxanne's retort. His calm facade cracked, and that didn't go unnoticed by Roxanne.
"Tsk! Nonsense. It's Ms Winslow who went through thick and thin to get the boss to divorce her. I am only delivering your wish to you." Lambert's words brought sudden memories of how Roanne usually threatened Sebastian with divorce. She even told him at one point that both of them would die together if he didn't produce the divorce papers soon.
Though Sebastian always brushed her off whenever she demanded a divorce, he still gave her what she wanted in the end. Alas, it was really what killed both of them in the end.
"I'll watch my tongue if I were you. At this rate, you wouldn't even see it coming if you should lose your tongue. No. Maybe, it's your neck that you'll lose for disrespecting the hostess of the Sinclair household."
Lambert's eyes widened at Roxanne's words. He thought he heard her wrong the first time, but she added calmly, "I am still Mrs Sinclair, and a puny errand boy like you should know your place!"
Even though she entered her car without waiting for his response, Roxanne still heard Lambert's scoffs behind her.
"What a joke!" He muttered, not bothering about her. It's not like Roxanne would go and report him to Sebastian, anyway.
Despite her bravado, Roxanne felt a chill at her back, wondering what made Lambert so cocky while talking to her.
"Does it mean they have already advanced their plans against Sebastian? I don't care. Even if they already have a coffin for him, I will bury them in it one by one. No one is touching my husband!"
Roxanne gripped the steering wheel tightly, as she waited in traffic enroute Sinclair Group Headquarters.
___
"Sebastian," Roxanne shouted before she could even step out of the car. As if he didn't hear her, the tall and charismatic young man with an air of superiority around him, stiffened briefly before picking up his pace.
He had business partners come to discuss a huge project with him, but seeing Roxanne here never meant good news. As a result, he feared she would do the usual and disgrace him in the presence of the foreigners.
Sebastian felt cold sweat forming at his back, and could only play dumb. As the heavens would have it, one foreigner, who obviously did his homework before coming to Saint City, gestured with a wink, "Your wife is here."
As if Sebastian didn't know already, he continued the act and carefully looked over his shoulders, only to see Roxanne hurrying towards them with a beaming smile.
"Sweetheart, I've been calling you for hours. Why weren't you picking my calls?"
Roxanne still had that beautiful smile that looked so genuine that Sebastian feared what she'll do next.
"Roxy, you shouldn't have come. We're just about to leave for further business. I'm sorry, I won't be able to host you today." Sebastian responded animatedly, and the foreigners could only smile knowingly.
To them, the cold and aloof president is now short of words in the presence of his wife. Only love could account for that.
"Don't worry, Mr Sinclair. Our meeting is already finalised. Seeing your wife in a hurry to take you away, I don't have the heart to separate you lovebirds. Let's sign the contract in your house tomorrow then. I'll come with my wife." The man beamed, checking out the beautiful model Sebastian prevented them from meeting for the past three days.
"What! No. I don't think it's a good idea to stress you like that. Let's just ..." Sebastian searched his memory for an excuse, but Roxanne beat him to it.
"Hello, sir, Roxanne Sinclair. A pleasure to meet you." Roxanne stretched forth her smooth hand, and the man gladly took it.
"Rojer. Rojer Henshaw. The pleasure is all mine."
"Mr Henshaw. I must confess, it would be an honour to host such esteemed guests in our home." Roxanne unilaterally agreed without giving Sebastian a way out. "Sweetheart, don't you think so?" Staring at him, Roxanne gave Sebastian a wink, and quickly hooked her arm with his.
Everyone expected Sebastian to respond, but he didn't even hear a thing. Nothing passed him beyond Roxanne's self introduction of "Roxanne Sinclair!"
The Sinclair name was like a curse to her, and Roxanne never used it. Yet, in the presence of his business partners, Roxanne decided to introduce herself as his wife. Sebastian's heart felt unsettled.
"What are you up to, Roxanne?"
