Reiki's keen eyes caught the strange dynamic in Namikaze Minato's battle. The legendary Yellow Flash hadn't used the Flying Thunder God Jutsu from the start—an anomaly that made Reiki suspicious. He reasoned that the mysterious man named Gu was likely using a special ability to restrict Minato's movement.
Minato was holding off two formidable foes, while the woman, Miki, relentlessly attacked Reiki's team. If Minato couldn't use his signature jutsu, the battle would become far more dangerous.
"Can you see a pattern?" Reiki asked, observing Kakashi, Obito, and Rin as they struggled to avoid Miki's unpredictable attacks.
Obito, dodging a close call, clenched his teeth. "I can see it, but… it's impossible to predict completely!" Frustration flashed in his eyes. Miki's blade seemed to move erratically, changing trajectory mid-swing as if it defied logic.
Reiki sighed, looking unimpressed. "You've been hit so many times, and you still don't get it?" he chided. If Obito would focus as much on training as he did on trying to impress Rin, he'd be on par with Kakashi by now.
"Boss, just tell me already! I'm tired of getting sliced!" Obito yelled, desperation creeping into his voice. He was convinced Reiki had already figured out the secret.
"I don't know the exact trick to her sword, Obito," Reiki replied. "But if you don't pay attention, Rin might be in danger. Remember, while I can heal, the pain is very real."
At the mention of Rin, Obito's eyes sharpened, and his Sharingan spun faster. Determination set in as he recalled his training under Kakashi and Reiki, both experts in swordsmanship.
"Ding!" A metallic clang resonated as Obito intercepted Miki's strike with his kunai, finally managing to catch her blade.
"So that's how it works!" he shouted, blocking another swing. Miki's weapon, composed of linked blades, adjusted to attack from multiple angles when blocked, explaining why Obito had struggled before.
"It's time," Kakashi said, unsheathing his short sword and locking eyes with Miki. "If you treat swordsmanship like a toy, you're not worthy of wielding a blade."
Rin, already in sync with the boys, activated her jutsu. "Perception Ninjutsu: Spiritual Chain!" The technique linked her sensory perception to Obito and Kakashi, allowing them to move as one seamless unit. They had practiced this countless times and knew each other's movements like clockwork.
Miki quickly found herself overwhelmed. The trio moved fluidly, dodging her strikes and countering with a coordinated assault. Kakashi's sword, infused with lightning chakra, struck with pinpoint precision, paralyzing her for moments at a time. Obito blocked and redirected her attacks, while Rin ensured they stayed a step ahead.
"No! This can't be!" Miki screamed as more wounds appeared on her body. Her confident smirk vanished, replaced by panic.
"Next, you'll die!" she screamed, eyes wide with rage as her chakra surged uncontrollably. Her blade blurred as she unleashed a cyclone of slashes, creating a dense wall of blades around her.
"Hahaha! Die! You'll all fall under my blade!" Miki's manic laughter echoed until she realized, with horror, that the three teenagers were advancing through her storm of attacks unscathed. Obito's Sharingan, Kakashi's poised strikes, and Rin's unwavering support cut through her assault like it was nothing.
Reiki's voice reached her ears, cold and certain. "You're done, Miki. These three have surpassed you."
Obito darted in, his kunai striking Miki's wrist and disarming her. Kakashi's short sword followed, embedding in her chest and releasing a pulse of lightning that paralyzed her completely.
"Seal!" Rin called, swiftly unrolling a scroll and binding Miki with sealing tags. The trio completed their task seamlessly, not a moment's hesitation among them.
"Brother Minato, is this enough for them to pass?" Reiki called, his tone light.
Minato, still fighting off Gu and the other opponent, managed a quick glance and a smile. "They've proven themselves, haven't they?"
Reiki's eyes narrowed slightly as he observed the scene. Minato's restraint made sense now. This was more than just a mission—it was an unofficial Chuunin exam for Kakashi, Obito, and Rin. The battle had been orchestrated to push them to their limits, a necessary step in wartime when Konoha needed strong Chuunin urgently.
"Good work, all of you," Reiki said, stepping forward as the adrenaline of battle started to subside.
