Reiki looked at the new prop in his possession, took a deep breath, and placed it in the system space.
"Now, there are more ways to save lives," he thought with satisfaction. "I should check on Morishita outside."
Reiki lifted the barrier, sensing Morishita's presence outside, closed the panel, and quickly exited the house.
"Everything okay?" Morishita asked with a smile.
"Yes, it's all settled," Reiki replied. "Sir Morishita, didn't you say you would be on long-term missions outside the village? Is there a specific reason for your return?"
"It's related to an old issue, so I wanted to see you as soon as I came back," Morishita said. "From now on, we'll be teammates." He extended his hand with a teasing grin.
"What!?" Reiki was taken aback but soon reached out to shake Morishita's hand.
"Surprised?" Morishita chuckled. "This is part of Hokage-sama's trust in me. The team will be you, Asuma, Hyuga, and me."
"A team of four?" Reiki repeated, processing the information.
"Yes, and I'll be the one leading it. Any specific mission you're hoping for?" Morishita asked, his tone light.
"Whatever you choose is fine, Sir Morishita. As a medical ninja, my role is to assist with treatment and support. The rest is up to you," Reiki said modestly.
"Good. Be ready; we'll meet tomorrow. Tsunade-sama will feel more at ease knowing you're under my watch," Morishita said, disappearing right after.
Reiki stood there for a moment, silent. The flow of information had been overwhelming, and he needed a minute to process it all. He trusted Morishita's experience and strength. If Morishita had any ill intent, he would have acted long ago.
The trust of Sarutobi Hiruzen was clear too, with Asuma's presence in the team. The biggest concern, however, was Danzo and his root organization. Even after recent incidents, Sarutobi Hiruzen chose to protect Danzo, which made the situation precarious. Danzo was unpredictable and capable of anything.
"Haven't gone to bed yet?" Tsunade's voice broke his train of thought as she returned.
"Teacher, Morishita-sama came by earlier," Reiki said and explained everything Morishita had told him.
"Morishita? Good. That means I can feel more at ease when you leave for your missions. The situation outside is tense right now, so prioritize your safety," Tsunade said with a hint of worry.
"I understand, Sensei. I'll go get some rest now," Reiki nodded, turning toward his room.
Tsunade stood in the yard for a moment before heading to her own room.
The next morning, Morishita came to pick up Reiki. The meeting point was at the village entrance. True to his reputation, Morishita wasted no time—he had taken the mission the previous night and was ready to depart by morning.
"We have three missions this time," Morishita announced.
"First mission: reclaim the Zhu Yan Forest occupied by Sunagakure."
[Zhu Yan Tree: A raw material used for making explosive tag paper.]
"Second mission: track and capture the rogue ninjas, Beisuke and Kishichi."
"Third mission: travel to the Land of Rivers to retrieve an information scroll."
Morishita quickly briefed the team on the mission details.
"Three missions?" Hyuga asked with a note of concern. "Captain Morishita, isn't this mission too risky?"
Reiki was a chuunin, and Asuma was a genin. Missions with high difficulty could prove dangerous.
"Don't worry. We'll manage," Morishita replied, offering no further explanation as he led them out of the village.
Unlike his first mission, Asuma was more composed this time, keeping pace with the team. Reiki's potions helped Asuma adjust quickly to the mission's demands.
Meanwhile, Konoha was bustling with activity as ninjas continued to take on missions. Intelligence reports streamed into the Hokage's office, where Sarutobi Hiruzen worked tirelessly, issuing orders. Even Danzo, who initially wanted to stir trouble, had mobilized his operatives for assignments. Though he remained in the village, there were tasks he couldn't personally handle.
Two days later, the team arrived at a cliff.
"Below us is the Zhu Yan Forest," Morishita said. "To the south lies the Sunagakure camp. This border area between the Land of Wind and the Land of Fire requires caution. If reinforcements come, we withdraw immediately."
He laid out the map, marking the Sunagakure positions and important areas.
"Understood," the team members nodded.
"What's this mark?" Reiki pointed to a symbol on the map.
"That's the Sunagakure processing factory for the Zhu Yan Tree," Morishita replied.
"Could we launch a surprise attack there? Their main forces will be at the camp, so the factory will likely have fewer guards. Destroying it would force them to expend more resources," Reiki suggested.
"Not a bad strategy," Morishita agreed. "Reiki, you and I will raid the camp. Hyuga, you and Asuma will destroy the factory. Can you handle that?"
"No problem. Let's go, Asuma," Hyuga said before disappearing into the forest with Asuma.
"Now it's our turn to act. We need to draw enough attention to keep their focus away from the factory," Morishita said, leaping from the cliff toward the camp.
"Morishita-sama's style is as direct as ever," Reiki chuckled, following suit.
At the Sunagakure camp:
"Konoha has been active lately. This land technically belongs to the Land of Fire. We can't be careless. Double the patrols and expedite the transport of the Zhu Yan Tree," Yashamaru ordered sternly.
Suddenly, explosions erupted from the direction of the Zhu Yan Forest.
"Enemy attack!" the Sand ninjas shouted as they rushed toward the noise.
