This incident seemed like a minor episode and hardly caused a stir in the vastness of Konoha. After the Sannin reunited that night, everything settled back into routine.
Tsunade continued her habits—drinking, gambling, and working at the hospital. Orochimaru focused on his experiments. And as for Jiraiya, he left the village the very next day, claiming he needed inspiration for his search for the "Child of Prophecy."
The three legendary Sannin appeared unchanged.
"Brother Reiki, do you think treating wounds this way could save chakra?" Shizune asked, glancing at her notes. "And since injuries vary, each type needs a different approach."
Shizune jotted down her thoughts and then looked to Reiki for his input.
"Not bad at all, Shizune. You've really progressed," Reiki praised her with a smile.
As for advice, Reiki didn't have much to add. In his treatments, he relied heavily on his dual-hand technique, capable of handling almost any injury. With his unique abilities, he found it challenging to give Shizune specific pointers beyond encouragement.
"Hehe, thank you, Brother Reiki! I'll go organize my notes now. I have a task later from Lord Orochimaru, in ward A7," Shizune said, placing the task sheet on Reiki's desk before heading off to work.
Reiki glanced at the S-class mission and sighed. "Orochimaru… can't he just take it easy for once?" Yet, the reward of Hashirama cells made Reiki decide to go.
"Lord Orochimaru," he greeted upon arriving at the ward, where Orochimaru was waiting eagerly.
"Come, Reiki, look at this," Orochimaru beckoned him toward the "patient."
Reiki took in the sight. The "person" before him looked less than human, as Orochimaru's experiments with Hashirama cells had once again triggered severe rejection symptoms.
"The rejection is as before," Reiki assessed, placing a hand on the subject. "Take it slowly, let the body acclimate before attempting fusion. Lord Orochimaru, you're rushing."
Orochimaru was racing to produce results for Danzo, but haste only brought setbacks. His intense ambition often risked throwing his experiments off-course.
"Reiki, any suggestions on balancing the cells? Ninjas have strong bodies but high rejection rates. Younger subjects have lower rejection, but their bodies can't handle the energy impact," Orochimaru mused as Reiki treated the patient.
"Try smaller doses," Reiki suggested. "Instead of pushing for instant results, inject lesser amounts across multiple sessions."
With Reiki's help, the Hashirama cells were stabilized, allowing the patient's body to begin recovery.
"Treatment complete," Reiki declared. "Now, Lord Orochimaru, about my reward..."
Orochimaru handed Reiki a glass vial. "Yes, as promised."
"Thank you, Lord Orochimaru. If you slow down a bit, success is just around the corner," Reiki advised before leaving.
Returning to his office, Reiki absorbed the Hashirama cells from Orochimaru, noting his progress. "2%? Not bad," he muttered with satisfaction. Yet, the slow pace of experience from the hospital frustrated him. In times of peace, most patients had minor injuries, and it had been days since he'd dealt with a critical case. It was clear he needed a new source of experience.
In the afternoon, Reiki changed out of his hospital attire and headed out. On the way, he encountered Kakashi.
"Reiki, we're leaving for a mission tomorrow," Kakashi informed him.
"Great! What's the mission?" Reiki asked.
"We'll handle multiple objectives this time," Kakashi replied, looking enthusiastic. "Minato-sensei says that as ninjas, we should work selectively and efficiently, not leave the village for just one task."
"Take care, Kakashi. I'll treat you to dinner when you're back," Reiki said, patting Kakashi's shoulder.
Returning to the hospital, Reiki continued thinking about where he could gain valuable experience, realizing the hospital's routine cases wouldn't suffice anymore.
That evening, Yūhi Kurenai joined him after her rounds. As Reiki had prepared medicinal soups for her and Shizune, she gratefully accepted. Her father, Yūhi Shinku, never objected to her visits; after all, he'd seen how Reiki's remedies had enhanced Kurenai's stamina, and even he could appreciate the health benefits, though pride held him back from visiting himself.
Late at night, Reiki sat in his courtyard, contemplating. "If injured people aren't coming to me, maybe I need to find them," he thought. "Or… cause some injuries myself." With a small grin, he pulled out a notebook and began listing the names of ninjas, ready to set his plan into action.
