Hearing that Reiki had reached this point, Sarutobi Hiruzen could only nod in acknowledgment.
After all, he couldn't let Reiki suffer irreparable damage because of his son, right?
Sarutobi Hiruzen carried Sarutobi Asuma over to Reiki.
"Reiki, Medical Ninja, please excuse me," he said. "He suddenly fainted when he got home today. I've investigated and confirmed he wasn't attacked or poisoned in any way. Several medical ninjas have checked him. There's no internal damage, but he's still unconscious. His complexion is worsening, and his breathing is unstable."
Sarutobi Hiruzen spoke helplessly. If it weren't for desperation, he wouldn't have come to Reiki, a child, for help.
"Alright, I can probably figure it out from his condition," Reiki replied. "Give me a moment, and please be quiet."
After Reiki said this, he placed his hand on Asuma. As time passed, Reiki's expression grew increasingly grim.
"Hokage-sama, Asuma's health issue is quite severe... I can treat it, but—"
"Boom!"
Before Reiki could finish his sentence, he collapsed.
"Reiki!" Sarutobi Hiruzen panicked and immediately called over the medical ninja nearby. "Quick, Wu Zuo, check on Reiki first."
Wu Zuo rushed to Reiki's side and examined him. Initially, it seemed that Reiki was merely exhausted. However, after the examination, Wu Zuo's face grew troubled.
"Hokage-sama, Reiki has been overworking himself lately. Many of his internal organs are damaged due to drug side effects. Even with the special medicine developed by Lady Tsunade, he won't wake up immediately," Wu Zuo explained with a helpless expression.
Hearing this, Sarutobi Hiruzen's expression darkened. Reiki had indicated that Asuma's condition was serious, and he could treat it—but now he couldn't.
Damn it, why now? If Reiki's body were in better shape, he would have chosen to treat Asuma immediately.
"Wu Zuo, let Reiki rest," Sarutobi Hiruzen instructed. "For now, stay here with your team to care for both Reiki and Asuma. I need to return to handle matters in the village."
Sarutobi Hiruzen took a deep breath, having made up his mind, and turned to leave the yard. The others quickly moved Asuma and Reiki into the house.
"Master Wu Zuo, what should we do now?" one of the medical ninjas asked, distressed. "Asuma's health keeps deteriorating, and Reiki won't recover anytime soon. Are we just supposed to stay here?"
They were trained as medical ninjas through persistence and dedication to healing others. But now, they felt powerless.
"This isn't for us to worry about right now," Wu Zuo replied. "What we need to figure out is why Reiki can identify the issue when we couldn't even detect it."
He then approached Reiki and used medical ninjutsu to help relax his body, as Reiki now needed rest to recover.
The other medical ninjas lowered their heads and proceeded to recheck Asuma.
The next day, around noon, a faint cough broke the silence.
"Cough, cough..."
Reiki slowly sat up.
"Reiki, don't move yet. What you need most is rest," Wu Zuo said sternly. "Asuma is stable for now; don't strain yourself."
"Wu Zuo?" Reiki asked, but before he could say more, Wu Zuo interrupted him.
"If you try to get up, I'll call Lady Tsunade back. If she knew how much medication you took to heal others, you'd be out of the hospital for good," he warned.
Wu Zuo greatly admired Reiki's talent, work ethic, and dedication to medical ninjutsu, and this was why Reiki progressed so quickly.
"I understand," Reiki muttered, lying back down reluctantly.
"Let Kakashi and the others come in and keep him company," Wu Zuo suggested. "You need to relax, not just physically, but mentally too."
He then left to check on Asuma, who still needed his attention. It had been a long night of hard work, and Wu Zuo felt drained. However, he could feel a renewed energy stirring within him.
Once Wu Zuo left, Kakashi and the others rushed in. Seeing Reiki looking so weakened, Kakashi clenched his fists. He'd thought Reiki was stronger due to better training and talent. Now he realized it was Reiki's sheer determination that set him apart.
"So, you're all here just to stare at me?" Reiki chuckled, sensing their worry. Although his body was exhausted, he couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. His plan was more than halfway to success.
"I've already signed up for next year's genin exams," Kakashi stated firmly. "Gai and Obito have too. We'll pass, move forward, and catch up to you."
"Boss, I've mastered three genjutsu techniques and two fire-style jutsu," Uchiha Obito added proudly. "And my clone jutsu meets the standard. I'll definitely work on my academic level next!"
The smile on Obito's face was bright and hopeful.
"The path of youth isn't meant to be spent in bed! Let's go!" Gai cheered, flashing his trademark grin.
"Okay, okay, don't make me feel like a lost cause," Reiki laughed. "I'm just a bit weak right now. I'll be back to normal soon. Next time, I'll beat all of you into the ground!"
Separately, each of them had their quirks, but together, their humor was impossible to ignore.
