The next day, Ginny wanted nothing more than to go to school.
Not for the lectures or the professors, but because the structure of it, the familiarity, might have drowned out the noise in her head. The university had granted three days for mourning, though, a decision that left her stranded at home with nothing but her thoughts and the constant, suffocating presence of silence.
It wasn't like she spent much time with the Thorne twins during this unexpected break. They were close, yes, but Ginny had spent most of the last two days locked in her mother's office, where her mother insisted on talking to her. The conversations were gentle but relentless, nudging at corners of her mind she didn't want to examine.
