Adam looked around him, his brain still deeply in shock. He tapped repeatedly on the table as he stared in front of him, seeing people reading books, wandering around what go read, and some just chatting about the recent events.
However, what made him in shock was not the transition from the courtroom to his place (he was already prepared beforehand), but how people dressed differently, more ancient and more simple than what he was used to.
Then he looked at himself, his trusty old white t-shirt no longer there, replaced by a more older type of cloth. He looked around again, confused. Where the hell am I?
Adam stood up from his seat, observing what was happening around him. It seems like he was transported into some medieval-like period. However, he needed an accurate information to further confirm his suspicion. What is this world? And what threats do he have to watch out for? He had so many questions in his mind he did not know what to do first.
After trying to register everything that happened recently, Adam heaved a sigh, his face looking more determined than ever. Whatever it was, Adam was willing to face it all head-on.
[Ding!]
[Registering world point…]
[Analyzing world point…]
[Integrating System 10%]
Adam widened his eyes as someone, or something, suddenly whispered and he turned his head around. However, he did not see anyone close to him that could possibly whisper such a large sound that it made him jump out slightly.
"What the hell was that?" Adam mumbled, dread filling his heart.
[Integrating System 24%]
[…30%]
[…55%]
In this instant, Adam realized he was not going crazy at all. He could hear a cold, robotic-like voice saying something in his mind. Being a programmer and an avid fan of reading webnovels whenever he had free time, Adam realized something.
System.
Something which had always been the ultimate cheat skill protagonists often get to get ahead of their peers and in no time becoming the strong being ever alive! Is he about to become someone like that too?
Adam narrowed his eyes as he thought of this. His mind wandered to that mysterious chilling smile the God Trickster Avelrios did earlier. That smile that looked even more demonic than the Judge of Death. What does that mean? What was Avelrios plotting?
As more time passed by, questions kept appearing in his mind with no possible questions at the moment. Adam shook his head and paid attention to the voice, which, at this moment, had already finished integrating the system.
[Ding!]
[Success! You are now the owner of Anti-Death System!]
[What do you want to do?]
Adam suddenly realized there was a transparent black window in front of him, with series of options written on it.
[ 1. Status Window
2. Skills
3. Inventory
4. Missions ]
"Hahahaha," Adam laughed, making sure it was low in volume to not attract attention of the others. He looked at the system window in front of him and he felt powerful. His gamble against the Judge of Death was a success! He got a second chance to live again and now even obtained a system that will help him become unbeatable and immortal.
Adam could feel it, the sheer confidence rising within him. He could already see how he would dominate whatever this world was with this system.
Then, Adam reached out his hand and tapped the first option, Status Window.
The system window changed into something and turned into Adam's stats. Adam scanned at it and his expression involuntarily froze.
[Status Window
Name: Adam Johnson
Age: 29
Title: Defiant of Death
Difficulty: Hell ]
What the hell? Adam inwardly cursed as he tried to think of possible implications that this difficulty hell meant. What does that mean? Is he about to experience hellish experiences and it would be extremely difficult?
Adam tried to touch the [Difficulty: Hell] text and it actually changed into something.
[Difficulty — It determines how hard the missions will be given to the user. How different creatures react in this to user's existence will also depend on difficulty.]
What!? Adam finally confirmed his fears. This journey will be extremely hard, especially since it specifically said the mission depends on the difficulty, does that mean every mission he will get onward will have a difficulty of hell?
Adam then tapped the back arrow which returned to the previous user interface. There were still more written on the Status Window so he looked at them.
[ Status Window
Name: Adam Johnson
Age: 29
Title: Defiant of Death
Difficulty: Hell
Strength: 26
Speed: 22
Durability: 15
Intelligence: 34
Luck: -120 (Defiant of Death)
Mana: N/A
Buffs/Debuffs: None ]
At this moment, Adam's surroundings turned dark when his eyes darted on his luck. The previous stats like strength, speed, durability and intelligence was reasonable, as it reflected his real-life capabilities. However, his luck was actually going negative. With his title written beside that -120 luck points. What the fuck is this?
Does that mean his title, Defiant of Death, affected his luck so hard that he will suffer so many misfortunes?
Adam tried to press the [Luck: -120 (Defiant of Death)] but unlike [Difficulty: Hell], the window did not changed, just remaining there as though it was mocking him for defying the Judge of Death.
Didn't Avelrios helped him get a second chance? Then what the actual hell is this? Adam should've know the God Trickster was just playing with him, appearing to be his savior while in reality was just looking for amusement.
But there was another possibility he thought of. This was the price he had to pay just to evade the punishment of eternal hell. Sure, the difficulty was really hard, but if he managed to become extremely strong and survived, then all of this would be worth it. But if he just remained in Hell, being punished for eternity even if he repented for his blasphemous actions, that would drive him insane.
"Since that would be the case," Adam's lips curled slightly, forming a sneer on his face. "I will face whatever eas about to go."
And if he ever got back to the courtroom, he will make sure he was strong enough the bend the laws of divinities and life and death. And he will not hesistate to do extreme means, even if he claimed a life, just to achieve this objective.
But first, I should go see what the other windows has to offer.
