Mia's POV
I jolted awake with a scream, my heart pounding against my ribs. Darkness surrounded me, thick and suffocating, like the limbo I'd been trapped in. My last memory was being yanked through a door and then falling into an endless, terrifying void.
I tried to breathe, but the air felt cold and stale, clawing at my lungs. Slowly, as my vision cleared, I realized where I was. Gray stone walls were around me, and cold iron bars trapped me inside. Shackles weighed heavily on my wrists and ankles, biting into my skin every time I moved.
I forced myself to sit up, but every movement scraped against the floor's rough stone. "Where...where am I?" I whispered, feeling a chill creep down my spine. "Let me out of here!"
I heard the sound of footsteps in the hall outside, and I looked up just as a guard stopped in front of my cell, glaring down at me with a contented smile.
