Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

I blinked a few times, my mind still foggy from sleep. The sun was streaming through the large windows, and I instinctively yawned, stretching out on the plush bed. It took a moment for my surroundings to register. This wasn't my room.

I glanced around, taking in the luxurious furniture, the grand design—this was August's room.

Realization hit me, and my cheeks flushed. How did I end up here?

I sat up quickly, smoothing down my slightly messy hair. The last thing I remembered was working late in his office.

"Don't tell me..." I muttered under my breath as I sprang out of bed and hurried to the door leading to his office. I swung it open, and there he was—sitting at his desk, already engrossed in reading documents.

I crossed my arms, narrowing my eyes. "August! You promised you would rest."

He looked up from the papers, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Good morning, Rina. I did rest, thanks to you. Now I'm just finishing up what you started."

He looked up, a soft smile tugging at his lips. "Good morning, Rina. I didn't have the heart to wake you up. You worked hard last night."

I walked over, still glaring at him. "You said you'd sleep, not work as soon as you woke up."

He chuckled, setting the documents aside. "I did sleep and didn't you promise me to wake me up in four hours? What happened to that, hmm?" He crossed his arms while looking at me.

I was about to retort back but I realized that I'm still in the wrong, "I didn't promise, I only nodded and besides you were so peaceful that I didn't have the heart to wake you. Plus, I handled the paperwork so you can have more free time."

August chuckled, leaning back in his chair. "Alright. I had no idea you were this good with state affairs."

I blushed slightly, rubbing the back of my neck. "I'm married to the Emperor, of course I must have knowledge about our state affairs. It's natural that I should support you. I'm an Empress so I'll help you in managing this country by your side, isn't that right?"

"Well, I'm impressed," he said, standing up and walking over to me. "But since you still want me to rest, how about we have breakfast first?"

I sighed, finally smiling up at him. "Fine, but only because you asked so nicely."

After we ate breakfast together with Ember, we decided to divide the work. I decided to handle the agricultural sector since I have more knowledge in that.

August agreed with the division of tasks. "I'll focus on the political and diplomatic matters then."

He handed me a stack of documents related to the agricultural sector. "Here are the reports and proposals for the agricultural sector. Let me know if you need any additional information."

I took the documents, excited that I finally have something to do now, "I'll be going to my office now then," I looked at Ember who was sitting beside me, "Say goodbye to your papa now, Ember."

Ember tilted his head as if he understood what I said and approached August. He rubbed his body on August's legs while looking at him.

He chuckled, patting Ember's head, "Good boy."

"Make sure not to overwork yourself again or else I'll let you rest for the whole day," I warned him before leaving as Ember trotted alongside me.
