Chapter 2
Dorothy's POV
Lilly is one of the top models in the world and most importantly, she is my best friend, from college. One of the few people I will do anything just to put a smile on her face.
She is so different from me. She is a beautiful blonde who has the most generous body, and the perfect shape. No woman holds a candle close to her when it comes to outer beauty. She is one of the reasons my marriage life isn't so dreadful, and she deserves every good thing because she is a good friend.
I made a call to my make-up artist and stylist to come dress me for the party. "Even if I'm happy in my marriage, I don't have to look like it," I thought as I went to take my shower.
It took an hour for her to come here and another hour for her to get me dressed. The party started at four, but she was able to be there a few minutes past four. I was dressed in a dress sleeveless cocktail gown, which stopped at my toes. She styled my hair in a high bun and gave me matching rings and a necklace, and my heel was black going along with my purse.
The makeup wasn't too much just like I asked and I won't say I look gorgeous but it wasn't bad. I wasn't ugly by any means, but my beauty was always more of a "hey, I never actually realized how pretty you were." If I was standing in the corner of a room, your eyes would pass over me. I'd go unnoticed and I liked that.
When I got out of the room, I saw Elijah waiting for me. He was in a black suit, which fitted his body well and he had his hair styled up. He was looking good, too good to be real.
"Even a pretty dress can't hide your ugliness," he mocked childishly, but I chose to ignore him. Today is important, I won't allow him to mess it up.
"Shall we go, husband?" I gave him a fake smile while he scoffed. "I thought you never asked"

Elijah and I got to the event, and just like a gentleman, he went out to open the door for me, extending his arm for me to hold onto, just like any normal couple would. I rolled my eyes before coming out.
It is far from our current relationship, but I took it and waved my hand at the media. It was a small party according to the invitation, but nothing here looks small.
We head inside the place used for the party, it is a party hall inside their house, and it looks so beautiful and well-decorated. But the only thing I need right now is to be away from Elijah, and as if God heard my prayer, he let go of my hands.
"You did well outside, we don't have to be together now. After all, no one will suspect anything here," he mentioned and I agreed. We decided to part ways. I went to look for my best friend. It was easy to find her. She shines no matter where she is, multiple men are standing with her, trying to grab her attention but it seems to be so difficult as she is staring at someone else. I followed her direction and saw her staring at Elijah, who was smiling with another woman.
Now, I understand the angry look on her face, she was worried for me. Her attention was split for a moment and she was able to notice me.
"Dorothy," She giggled and walked to me as soon as she saw me. "I have been waiting for you, these men won't just let me be. Being too pretty must be a crime," She joked and held my hand while we moved away from her admirers. "Well, it won't be bad to give one of them a chance. They aren't that bad," I replied.
She snorted like I said the most absurd thing ever. "Your taste sucks so much. Those men are bad. Like, have you seen their face? I love something that sparkles, something that shines,"
She continued, "A man who knows his way around women, who looks so bright when he smiles. The one who doesn't reek of alcohol but yet makes me intoxicated with his smell. A man that is like a diamond. That is what I want." She giggled as she picked a wine cup from one of the workers passing by.
Lilly is so poetic, she could make money off that but she is wrong. There are a lot of man that sparkles but yet they are horrible and disgusting- like my husband. He would rather spend the night flirting with different girls than be here with me.
"I want someone like him," Lilly inhaled while I stared at who she was talking about, and decided it was forbidden fruit.
Marcelo. The man I have loved for all my life but can't even dream of having. The one that a woman lusts for but yet can't have.
He shines just like a diamond, his presence is more powerful than anything in his world. To me and every woman, he was the number one most eligible bachelor in the country. Everything about him is so attractive, from his brown hair to his blue eyes, his perfect nose, his lips that I dreamed about most of the time and, his body, even the suit can't hide those muscles, he is perfectly made.
Lilly is right. Men like this are just so different. They are dreamy. His looks make me perfect already, but his money is on another level and nobody in this room holds a candle compared to him or his family. He comes from a wealthy family in Italian.
He is a set of his own, and I'm just a woman who has wanted him. "A fairytale, Dorothy," I muttered, laughing.
"Are you ok, girl?" Lilly asked while I fanned myself, embarrassed that I was caught lusting on another man. I took the wine from her hand and gulped it down. "Hey, that is cheating," She pouted but I bribed her with a nervous smile.
"See who is coming here," Lilly tapped me and I looked up only to see Marcelo walking toward us.
"What in fuck is going on? Is he here to talk to Lilly, perhaps he has fallen for my best friend," I thought. I would be bitchy and jealous at first, but I would be happy for her if it is true.
"Good evening ladies," He greeted. I smiled and was about to talk when Lilly cut me off. "Evening, Mr Giovanni. Are you enjoying the party?" She asked. "Lily shines one of her attractive smiles and Marcelo will lose in her trap." I thought again.
"I guess. You are?" He asked and I could almost vomit the wine I had just drank. Did he say that? That means he doesn't know who Lilly is because there is no way he is interested in her and doesn't know her. Plus we went to the same college together, if he doesn't know who she is, I doubt he remembers me at all.
It is disappointing, I have loved him for years but the possibility of me not reminding me hurt. The pain in Lilly's eyes was visible, but she shook it off with a smile. "Lilly Walter. I'm sure you have seen me on your TV before.
"No" he responded. He was being honest but it kind of sucked. I don't want to be in that situation at all.
"Oh, it doesn't matter. So, are you here to ask me for a dance?" Lilly asked.
"I don't think we can dance before the host, and if you don't mind, I would like to speak with Dorothy alone." He was being polite but at the same time, rude.
And I'm surprised he remembers me and even wants to speak to me. "I see," Lilly faked a smile and walked away. I have to console her after this. She is pissed.
"Are you enjoying the party?" He asked nervously, as his finger rubbed the cup of wine in his hand randomly.
"Yes," I responded and silence took over. It has been like this since we knew each other, and we hardly speak to each other. The time we did, it was just for a brief moment.
I don't know which one is bad, embarrassed like Lilly or this. We don't know each other, so there is not much to talk about.
Though, I didn't want the moment to end it would be more strange to continue staring at each other without saying much.
