After Erie finished unpacking, he had the rest of the day to explore the academy and the city. It was still noon, so he had plenty of time to look around.
Erie was sharing his room with three other people. Luckily, he already knew two of them: Alex and Gene. Erie and Gene were in the lobby, sitting on the chairs, chatting about who the next roommate could be since they hadn't seen him yet.
Fortunately, they all had their private rooms inside their apartment. It was like a home: each of their rooms had its bathroom, bed, dresser, and space to add their personal belongings. This meant they didn't have to see each other daily if they didn't want to. They just hoped the new roommate would either be someone they knew or someone with a low level so they wouldn't have to worry about bullying in the apartment.
The military decided to make a change. They found that if the students enjoyed their time in the living space, it would lead to higher output in training. So, they allowed the students to personalize their rooms with their own touch and taste, but that was it—nothing beyond that.
So Dude, since have the rest of the day, what do you want to do?" Alex asked.
"Well, I want to check out the training grounds. I saw this open field where I saw the 2nd and 3rd years training. I want to watch them train," Erie replied.
"Dude, you and I can have a quick spar if you're really up to it," Alex replied.
[Quest received, Defeat Alex sayer in a spar]
[spar would be considered training, 30% gravity will be in effect]
Erie paused for a minute to stare at his notification. "Another quest? This system is just giving out quests left and right," he thought to himself.
Gene intervened, "Hey Erie, I think you should put a pin in that spar. I want you to come to the library with me if you don't mind?" he asked.
Gene was finally speaking out a lot more. At first, he was hesitant to speak to Alex because Alex had an ability. Gene only spoke to Erie because he didn't have an ability. He was intrigued that Erie denied ability books; Gene was given two of them, and this was interesting for him. Gene also learned that Erie was a Sun Warrior but didn't know what type he was. He was interested in studying Erie's race a little more because he also was different. They both were.
"Dude I think we can all go." Alex said
Erie turned back to Gene. "Yeah, sure, I don't mind. I was thinking of going there in the first place." Erie then stood up and started heading for the door.
Before Erie could take another step, Alex shouted out, "Dude, stop moving! You're going to bump into Jake."
Then a tall boy with white hair and white eyes appeared in front of them. Erie jumped a little because the sudden appearance scared him.
"I'm surprised you knew I was here, Alex," Jake said. "Anyway, I'm going to lay down. I'm tired." Jake then walked off and closed the door.
Erie watched Jake walk into his room. "Jake is our roommate? Was this all set up?" Erie thought.
Gene then stood up fron his seat and looked back at alex, "are you still coming Alex?" he said with a hand gesture.
Alex started to walk towards the door, leaving the room completely. Erie and Gene talked about Jake and discussed what his abilities were. Alex spoke about what he knew of Jake's family and said that Jake held a rare ability but was outcast by his clan, so he decided to go to military school. After their talk, they all arrived at the library. Erie couldn't help but take in the energy the library was giving off—the gold, emeralds, and energy orbs were pulsing with vibrancy.
Once inside the library, there was an artificial greeter in the room, greeting the three: "Year 1, Level 1, Erie Sunheart; Year 1, Level 1, Gene Draco; Year 1, Level 10, Alex Sayer. You have access to Floor One. Library entries: one. Time in library: four hours and fifty-seven minutes remaining before curfew."
"hey that was cool, was this the new AI that Levi was talking about?" Erie asked.
They all turned after they heard a happy greeting and a loud voice: "Yes! This is the AI I was speaking about! Since you all are here, I guess I'll explain a few things to you. Since you are only a Year 1 student, you only have access to the first floor! If you wish to have access to the rest of the floors, you have to be granted special permission to access those rooms!"
"so are these next rooms special or something?" Gene asked
"That's for you to find out!" Levi said with laughter. "Now go! Read! Learn! Enjoy!"
"Dude! I'm going over there," Alex said, pointing at the comic books and mangas. He walked over and picked up "Boruto" to read.
Erie looked at Levi, who was smiling from ear to ear. Gene watched Erie as he looked back at Levi. Erie then started walking down the history section of the library. He saw books about "Systems" and grabbed as many system books as he possibly could, along with books about Sun Warriors.
Gene grabbed a few dragon books, and they both walked over to sit with Alex, who was laughing, crying, shaking his head, and yelling at the comics.
"Wow, this guy really loves Boruto," Erie couldn't help but notice. He then started to read the books. All of the system books he read carried the same exact traits as his own system. He learned a few things, like how to access it and go to certain menus and settings, which he tried out himself. But most settings were locked.
"I guess I need to level up my system?" he wondered. The only prompts that constantly popped up were his quests and the locked skill. "I wonder what that skill is? Is this a system skill, or a skill I already know?" he thought.
Erie then started to open the book about the Sun Warriors, but all he could read was basic information about them. The Sun Warriors needed the sun, they fought better in the sun, and they needed to meditate 30 minutes a day and focus on energy. They all carried a common ability, Sun Moves, but nothing more. "It seems like these books are just scraping the surface of the Sun Warrior race," he thought.
"Well, this explains why I get a stat boost in the sun, and it also explains why I have a quest to meditate 30 minutes a day for 25 exp," Erie thought. "But that's about all. I don't even know what class I am in. Officer Janet told me we just don't know my class?" Erie began to ponder.
Gene walked over Erie's shoulder. "You can't seem to find anything either, huh?" Gene then sat next to Erie and began talking more. "You know, all of this is just basic knowledge. I think the higher we go on the floors, the more access we'll have to deeper knowledge, you know?"
Alex then chimed in, "Well, Levi said what he said for a reason. He wants us to work our way up to the top of the library. I saw you two pick up history books about your race, correct? Maybe we can find them online. But as you know, we killed all of our time in here. Curfew is almost up."
Alex then made another comment, "Well, Jake might know more than us. After all, he was hailed a genius in his clan. Right, Jake?" Erie and Gene began to look around because they couldn't see him. Jake then appeared, annoyed at Alex. He looked at Alex as if Alex had ruined his surprise.
