Jake sat opposite of Alex, Erie, and Gene. He looked down, shook his head, and asked Alex a question. "So, Alex? Do you have a sensing ability or something? You discovered me twice today. Did you feel me following you the entire time?" Jake began to stare into Alex's eyes, waiting for a reply.
Alex sat straight in his chair and placed his hands in front of him. "First," Alex said while tilting his head, "it's not an ability, it's just something I can do, dude." Alex then leaned back in his chair. "So, what's your deal, dude? Are you embarrassed walking with some lowly level-ones?" Alex waited for Jake to answer his question.
Jake leaned back in his chair and placed his hands behind his head. "No... I just wanted to see what you guys liked to do." He then stood up and began to walk away. "You guys are boring. When you're ready to start sparring, Erie, let me know. I'll be happy to help train with you." As he waved his hand, he then disappeared once again.
[New quest received: defeat Jake Fang in a spar]
[Spar will be considered training; 30% gravity enhancement will be included]
[You now have 5 incomplete quests. Please complete quests.]
Erie's system was relentless with these quests. "Five incomplete quests already?" he thought. He felt a mix of frustration and determination. Sparring with Jake under enhanced gravity would be no walk in the park, but it would be an incredible opportunity to grow stronger.
The last call sounded off in the library, and the group of students began to leave the area one by one. Alex and Gene said their goodbyes, while Erie wanted to stay behind in the library and look for more Sun Warrior books to read. He found a few of them and skimmed through them, only to realize that the books only offered general knowledge of the Sun Warriors.
The final call was finally made, and Erie had no choice but to get up and leave the library. Erie looked up and noticed that the library was empty—he was the last student. The only figure remaining was Professor Levi, who sat in his chair waiting for Erie to leave so he could lock up the library. "This young one's thirst for knowledge is outstanding," he thought.
"Let's hurry up, Erie!" Levi shouted across the library. "You need to make curfew!" he yelled.
After Erie left the library, he walked through the hallways of the facility. As he was making his way, he began to receive a notification.
[you have been out of sunlight for more than 5 hours stat boost returned to normal]
Erie dismissed the notification from his screen prompt and heard a few footsteps coming closer behind him. He looked back but couldn't see anyone. "Jake, is that you?" Erie said.
"Hey, you?" a voice said in the distance. Erie looked around but couldn't see anyone. "What's your level?" Erie didn't answer but stood in place. "You know, I was bullied at my old school, and I never let anyone slide."
The boy appeared, walking towards Erie, and began to talk again. "I need some currency, and you're going to give them to me." Erie stared at the boy intently, then began to walk past him, ignoring him.
The boy's shout echoed through the hallway. "Hey, don't ignore me! I need some currency—you're supposed to give them to me!"
"Then go earn some more credits and bug off," Erie said, waving as he continued to walk down the hallway.
The boy ran up to Erie and pushed him to the ground, causing Erie to fall. Erie then received a new quest from his system, but this wasn't a spar quest.
Erie's system alerted him: [Enemy detected. Defeat enemy in a fight for 75 exp].
Erie stood up off the ground and looked at him. "You know, it was a matter of time for one of you to show up, and it seems like school didn't even have to start yet." Erie glanced at his watch to get his name, and it displayed: "Larry Scuff."
"So, Larry Scuff," Erie yelled, "you want a fight? Then let's fight."
Larry smiled, and then he hurled a basic wind blast at Erie that only pushed him back a few feet. Larry jumped in the air, flipping and pushing more air toward Erie. Erie crossed his arms, blocking the wind from pushing him down.
Erie then jumped out of Larry's way before Larry landed in front of him. Erie was quick on his feet. He stepped forward and whipped his leg around for a kick to Larry's head, sending Larry flying to the ground, Larry felt the impact of Erie's kick and shook his head.
"His band is glowing, but it's clear. Is this some enhancement ability?" Larry thought. But he had to think fast. Erie jumped into a front flip, trying to land a heel kick on Larry's face.
Larry blew a gust of wind, pushing himself further away from Erie. Larry's eyes widened as he saw a fist coming toward his face. Larry stood no chance against Erie's speed. Erie knocked Larry out cold and received a quest reward.
[Quest reward:75 exp]
[75/100 exp]
[Level one]
[Quest reward, you can now gauge enemy health during battle]
[Larry scuff: (1/25)]
Erie examined his new system skill. "This is starting to feel like a real-life video game," he thought. "And what was that? I felt faster and stronger just then. Was that the system doing, or just from me being a Sun Warrior?" Erie had many questions, but he had no one to turn to for answers that he knew of.
He walked down the hallway back to his dorm. "That girl from earlier, isn't she a Sun Warrior? Maybe she can help me?" Erie began to think, as this thought was bothering him. "So many questions..." He thought.
Erie began to reflect on the fight he had against Larry. "Was that Larry kid just that weak, or did I get stronger?" Erie shook his head, and a boy started to materialize right beside him. Erie jumped back, scared of the sudden appearance. A boy with white hair and white eyes appeared. "JAKE!"
