The next morning, Claire got up as usual and got ready for her work, assuring her Nana that she would take care of herself and be safe.
On her way, Claire cleared the pictures on her mobile phone, and the data she had related to the previous night. After reaching the hospital, Claire was so nervous that she her heart almost dropped out of her chest even stepping into of the hospital.
She inhaled sharply and entered, telling her that she couldn't just run away like a coward after knowing these horrific details. She entered the Emergency ward and continued her shift as usual, but she prayed to not meet Sister Milly as she might openly ask about the thesis, with her colleagues around. As she had made up the thesis part, she might get caught.
Fortunately, the class went on smoothly. It was almost time for lunch. Claire calmly made her way towards the cafeteria, her mind still occupied with the previous night's incident. She felt nauseous, racking her brain to find a solution or an idea to go about dealing with this situation.
As she walked towards the cafeteria, she randomly gazed around the place. To her surprise, she saw Cain standing at the exit of the hospital, almost ready to go. He looked handsome as ever. She was momentarily enchanted when her colleague called her from behind.
"Claire, come and have your lunch quickly or you'll miss the class."
"Eh? Oh yeah." She turned to leave, but a sudden chaotic idea popped into her mind that was dangerous and terrifying.
She quickly waves her head to get rid of those reckless thoughts her brain was suggesting her to do. She picked up her pace with a final glance at Cain as she walked away.
As she walked few steps to the exit, her mind acted on impulse and her body moved involuntarily. She ran to her friend and in a hurry, she said that due to an emergency she would't be able to attend the class. Grabbing her bike keys, she ran outside to see if Cain was still there. To her luck, his car just went off the gate. She hurried and grabbed her bike from the parking and with the speed of light, she started following Cain like crazy, thinking she might loose him.
After following him like a madwoman for a kilometre or two, Claire thought it would be hard to get a hold of him if he goes to some other organisations or his home or anywhere that won't allow her to speak with him.
She picked up her speed and managed to overtake his Rolls-Royce. Cutting in between, she stopped her bike in front of his car. His driver, Mark, slammed the brakes, bringing the sleek Rolls-Royce to a screeching halt. Mark glared at her through the windshield, annoyed. Claire hopped off her bike and marched straight up to Cain's window, knocking insistently. But Cain didn't even glance at her.
Seeing that she didn't get a response, Claire came forward and started banging loudly on the bonnet of his car.
"Mark, what the hell is going on?" Cain sounded frustrated.
"Sir, I'll go and have a look," Mark got out of the car and approached Claire.
"Miss, what is it that you want?" He clicked his tongue with anger.
Ignoring him, Claire stubbornly folded her arms. "I need two minutes with your boss." Mark's face twitched and he raised his eyebrows.
"You–what?" Assuming he didn't hear her, he questioned again.
Rolling her eyes, she said, "I said I need two minutes of Cain Wilson. Are you deaf?"
Mark's jaw tightened, clearly unimpressed. "That's not going to happen, Miss. You're disrupting traffic."
When he turned back towards the car, Claire folded her arms in annoyance and stood there firmly. As Mark opened the door to the driver seat and was about to enter, she slipped under his arm and scrambled into the driver's seat. Scooting over to the passenger side right next to Cain, ignoring Mark's protests, she turned to the back.
Mark shouted in anger. "Hey, young lady! Get the heck of the car before I call the cops." He moved towards the other side to grab her.
Sudden movements disturbed Cain and he looked around to see her being reckless. Her actions caught his attention and he slightly turned his face to look at her. She was a mess, her hair all over her face, and she was trying to avoid Mark's attempt to open the door and throw her out. Mark somehow managed to open the door and was about to grab her, she quickened her movements and kicked him. Holding onto Cain's shoulder, she screamed
"I–I just need two minutes, tha–t's it. Ugh, let go of me, you bastard." She continued her struggle to get Mark off of her. "It's very important and very serious."
In her attempt to get away, she pushed Cain to the window to get support for her back and to use her legs to defend herself against Mark who was pulling her out. She didn't realise that her hands randomly hit Cain.
Cain, momentarily stunned by her audacity, looked at her disheveled state—hair sticking out wildly, her face flushed. She was a mess, but somehow her frantic persistence amused him. With a raised eyebrow, he lifted a hand, signaling Mark to back off.
"Stop it Mark. Come back to your seat" Gritting his teeth, Mark looked at her while she just flipped her hair in the air and smirked to show off her victory.
While quarrelling with Mark she accidentally drops her ID, Cain bent over and looked at the ID.
Name: Claire Miller.
Department - 5C
Designation - Intern
Cain recognised the apron she wore, it belongs to Medwin hospital', he looked back at his system and said, "One minute and forty seconds left."
Then it clicked to Claire that he had agreed to talk to her for two minutes. She moved her hair away from her face and turned towards him, but she couldn't help but get captivated by his aura. She was about to say something but she ended up gawking at him. He looked like a masterpiece sculpture with no defects or mistakes.
But his firm voice jolted her back to reality. "One more minute left," Cain said firmly.
Getting back to her senses, Claire, with no idea where to start, suddenly blurted out whatever she saw yesterday.
"I don't know whether you are a clean or shabby person, but still I am trusting my instincts, my gut feelings and spilling this to you. Some illegal activities are going on at the hospital. I didn't know who to approach. The abandoned area—" she swallowed. Cain looked at her with suspicion. "I think they are exporting the organs illegally." Claire bent down and took a USB from her socks and handed it to Cain.
"Here's the proof if you don't trust me. Many high position authorities are involved and I–" she paused as though realisation hit her. "I'm not sure if you are among them." She looked at him with caution. "Oh shit! Shitt!" She hit her head.
"They say that you are the biggest shareholder of Medwin hospital. Gosh! What if you are behind all this?" Claire sat there as though struck by the lightning, the sudden realisation hitting her hard.
She gulped down in fear, and slowly looked at Cain, her breaths abnormal and her heart beating so hard, it could explode any moment out of her chest. She moved as a shiver ran down her spine.
"You didn't even bother to check the complete identity of the person you are revealing such a big matter to. How naive." Mark smirked.
Her eyes widened and she stared at Cain with fear and panic. She didn't know whether to run away or plead for her life. She opened her mouth but words failed to support her.
Mark looked at her and chuckled before bursting into laughter, which sounded like a villain's sidekick mocking the victim.
Cain was enjoying teasing her, he was amused by her reaction and foolishness, he grabbed the USB from her hand and held her wrist tightly. Getting closer to her, he didn't break the intense eye contact.
Claire sweated out, her body turning cold. She trembled with fear. And she was almost sure that Cain could feel her body shivering.
"You–" before Cain could even speak, she cut him off.
Claire with heavy breaths, hurried to explain herself. "I—I am sorry. I–won't ex-," she gathered the words. "Expose this. P-please, let me g-go. Do-don't kill me."
Cain's face twitched. Letting go of her wrist, he spoke calmly. "You will pay for this. You better keep your mouth shut, else we will hunt down and–" he stopped and opened the door for her.
Claire ran for her life. She didn't even care to look back at the car. She just started her bike and drove to God knew where.
Inside the car, Mark's laughter echoed once Claire was gone. Cain, shaking his head, chuckled, rubbing his temples in disbelief. Her ridiculous bravery had caught him off-guard. Once the laughter faded, his expression turned serious. He handed the USB to Mark, his face darkening.
"Look into this matter. I want the report by evening and also with every single detail of the person involved in this matter." With that, they drove away.
