Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Wang Shuo in the Hospital

In W City, People's Hospital.

Chen Cheng carried a kettle of hot water out of the hospital's hot water room and entered a luxurious single patient room.

He placed the kettle on the bedside table and turned to look at the tall young man sitting beside the bed, saying with sympathy, "Boss, you should go back first. I can take care of things here."

The young man was Zheng Jun, who looked tired and was absently staring at the patient in the bed, seemingly not hearing Chen Cheng's words.

"Boss, go back. You haven't slept for two days straight. If this continues, your health will suffer again," Chen Cheng said, glancing at the heart monitor next to him. "I think Wang Shuo's heartbeat is steady, and he should be fine. He'll definitely wake up."

"Chen Cheng, do you think we made a mistake?" Zheng Jun's voice was weak. "Should we not have made Wang Shuo drink with us? Look at how frail he is. I should have known he couldn't handle alcohol."

"Well..." Chen Cheng wanted to say that Wang Shuo's body had nothing to do with being frail, but looking at Wang Shuo lying in bed, he found himself unable to speak.

Since that night of heavy drinking, Wang Shuo had been in a coma, and it had been exactly one month and three days. The military training at school had ended, but Wang Shuo was still lying in the hospital.

But surprisingly, his cold and aloof girlfriend had somehow found out about him. She not only visited twice but also covered all the hospital expenses.

Tsk tsk, saved me the trouble of spending a fortune.

The transition from the intensive care unit to a single room was a significant expense.

But speaking of which, seeing Wang Shuo lying there for a month without showing any signs of waking up, Chen Cheng was also worried. Could he possibly become a vegetable?

Chen Cheng couldn't help but glance at Zheng Jun, who had dark circles under his eyes and looked exhausted after staying awake for two days straight. Although the boss seemed carefree on the outside, he showed his true colors when faced with problems. Now he was in such a state, could he be killed by his conscience if this continued for another month?

Should he use his connections to invite another expert to take a look?

The so-called brain expert last time had the nerve to say that Wang Shuo was just dreaming while lying in bed? Chen Cheng cursed under his breath. Who dreams for a month and doesn't wake up?

And he called himself a top expert from a prestigious hospital in S City. Chen Cheng had gone through a lot of trouble to get him here through his father's connections, and he spouted such nonsense. Chen Cheng was already eighteen; did the expert think he was still a child?

Thinking of this expert, Chen Cheng's expression darkened, but there wasn't much he could do now except to comfort Zheng Jun. He had to settle this big guy first. Otherwise, out of the four people in their dormitory, two had collapsed right at the start of the semester. How could they face the school if this got out?

"Don't worry, boss. I've already invited the best expert to diagnose Wang Shuo. There's definitely no problem," Chen Cheng said confidently. As for where the expert was, well, Chen Cheng decided to look online when he got back. He didn't believe there were experts who didn't love money.

"Really?" Zheng Jun looked up at Chen Cheng, then furrowed his brows. "It's not the kind of expert who came last time, is it?"

The expert from last time? Chen Cheng recalled some unpleasant memories and shook his head quickly. "Of course not. This time, it's an absolute authority, a brain expert, not the kind of skull expert from last time."

"Sigh." Zheng Jun felt like he had spent a lifetime's worth of frustration in this month. "It's been a month already. Why hasn't he woken up? His parents have called several times, and I didn't dare say anything. I always say Wang Shuo isn't here. It's not good." Zheng Jun hesitated, then asked weakly, "Should we tell the truth to his parents?"

Chen Cheng shook his head. "Boss, you have to think about his parents too. Now that we're taking care of the medical expenses and Wang Shuo's vital signs are stable, the doctor said there's a great chance he'll wake up. What if Wang Shuo wakes up and finds out we disturbed his parents over a small matter, causing them unnecessary worry? If something goes wrong, how will we explain ourselves?"

Zheng Jun nodded, agreeing with Chen Cheng. Sometimes, being too concerned could lead to chaos and easily cause problems.

"In ten days. If Wang Shuo still hasn't woken up in ten days, we'll have to tell his parents no matter what. I don't care if they scold me or hit me."

Zheng Jun clenched his teeth, making up his mind. In his view, Wang Shuo lying unconscious in bed was directly related to him pulling Wang Shuo into drinking. If Wang Shuo really didn't wake up, not only would Wang Shuo's parents blame him, but he wouldn't be able to forgive himself either.

Chen Cheng silently patted Zheng Jun on the shoulder, understanding his feelings well. It wasn't just Zheng Jun who had drinks with Wang Shuo; if something serious happened, all three of them in the dormitory would be responsible.

No longer trying to persuade Zheng Jun to leave, Chen Cheng quietly looked at Wang Shuo lying on the bed, still unconscious with a slight smile on his lips, and silently sighed. Wang Shuo, you must hold on.

For a moment, both of them fell silent, with only the ticking sound of the heart monitor in the room, creating a heavy atmosphere.

This atmosphere was soon broken by the creaking sound of the door opening, which was unusually loud in this setting.

Chen Cheng turned to look and saw a beautifully dressed girl walk in. Her light blue dress showcased her lovely figure perfectly, and her long hair, reaching her back, was as smooth as silk.

The girl was holding a fruit gift box, which she placed on the table next to the bed with a calm demeanor. Then she turned to look at Wang Shuo lying on the bed, her delicate eyebrows slightly furrowed as she asked, "Haven't you called someone to take a look?"

Chen Cheng's eyebrows twitched, but he resisted the urge to speak.

"He's been lying like this for so long, if he doesn't wake up soon, there's a high chance he could become a permanent vegetable, with a possible cessation of brain activity. Don't you understand that?"

"If your classmate can't find a doctor, then tell me, I'll find one!"

Chen Cheng finally couldn't hold back his anger, "What attitude is this, Chen Xin? I'm still your cousin! And—" Chen Cheng was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, his fur standing on end, pointing at Wang Shuo on the bed, "He's my classmate, what does it have to do with you! You've paid the money and visited him this month! What more do you want to meddle in! I'm telling you, even if you like him, he might not like you! Miss Chen!"

"You..." The girl's lips moved, but in the end, she didn't argue, speaking calmly, "What I do has nothing to do with you, and you don't need to know."

"Tell me when he wakes up. I have something to do, I'll leave first."

As the door of the ward slammed shut, Zheng Jun finally snapped out of his confusion.

"Wow." Zheng Jun exclaimed, "Chen Cheng, your cousin is fierce."

Chen Cheng waved his hand, feeling like he had just regained his breath, too frustrated to speak.

"But Lao Si..." Zheng Jun's face showed a hint of doubt, "Didn't you say that you paid for Wang Shuo's hospitalization? You even assured us with such confidence?"

Chen Cheng: "..."

Chen Xin, oh Chen Xin! Are you really a demon sent by the heavens to punish me!
