Chapter 5
He was supposed to be my everything. I was supposed to be his world. He was supposed to care for me, about me, and I was supposed to calm him down when he was angry. That was the basic need for a mate. They were your soul mate, your other half. They were there for those moments where nothing ever seemed to go right. They were your warm light in the cold darkness. I was supposed to have a loving mate. Someone who would do anything for me. Someone that loved me. But all of that washed away as soon as Alex was picked to be my mate. I was never going to receive that treatment.
Werewolves shift at age thirteen. It is a very painful experience for all of us. In the following shifts after that, it hurts slightly less, until you feel nothing at all, at least that's what I have been told. It was a few weeks after my parents died when I first shifted. I remember the excruciating pain that washed over me as every bone in my body cracked in two. I can still feel the uncomfortable stinging in my fingertips as my claws burst through for the first time and the prickling feeling of my fur sprouting all over my body. It took me a few weeks until I even considered shifting again and once I did, it was just as excruciating as the first. I vowed to never let it happen again and because of that I have developed a weak bond with my wolf. We only talk when it is necessary and she is rarely completely present in my mind. Whenever she got a chance, my wolf would yap on and on about finding our mate. How special he was. How much he was going to love me. How much I would mean to him. She wouldn't stop, but now that she has met our mate, she hasn't said a word to me.
At age sixteen, most Weres begin to search for their mate and many wolves normally look until they are eighteen. Then, some give up hope and marry someone who had already lost their mate. Of course, there were still the few that were absolutely head strong on finding there mate. I was one of the lucky ones, I guess you could say. I already know how horrible my mate is, I don't need to wait to find out. My mate looks to be around 18. I can only pray to the moon goddess that he didn't marry someone else. I may despise him and wish that I was not his mate, but I have to face the facts, I am. No matter how much I hate it, it would kill me if he was with another woman.
"Come on." Alex orders, snapping me from my thoughts.
Currently we are walking through a hallway and he is supposed to be giving me a tour. I have to say, if he was low on money and needed an easy job, he would not be good for giving tours. He doesn't have enough patience. In the short time that I've actually been in this house, he had already snapped at me for asking too many questions.
"This is the bathroom. One of many." he grunts, waving his hand in that direction.
Nodding my head, I try to keep up with his long strides. His legs are at least three times the size of mine. I am shorter than most wolves at 5'4, where as he looks to be around 7'0 tall. Okay, that may be an exaggeration, but the point is that he's really freaking tall.
"Here's a bedroom. There's a bedroom. Oh, look another bedroom." he says, in a bored tone, throwing his hand in the general direction of the rooms.
"You know, you don't have to show me around if it kills you this much. I know you don't want to be around me. I'm sure I can find my way." I say, shrugging my shoulders, ignoring the pinch of pain in my heart.
"Shut your mouth." he grunts, turning the corner.
Sighing, I follow along behind him, hobbling slightly. The crutches under my arms which are holding me up are unsteady and chipped. You'd think after having such a wealthy pack you could get some better crutches. Alex nearly bit my head off when I insulted him with that. He said I should be grateful for what I had or I wouldn't get anything at all. Being a wolf it's always normal to heal quickly, but unfortunately since I don't have that strong of a bond with mine, it had always taken longer. It also doesn't help much that I had other various wounds on my body, as well as being overly weak. So sadly, I needed crutches.
"Here's our bedroom." he huffs, opening a door at the end of the hall.
My eyes widen and my jaw drops open.
"Our bedroom?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.
Looking over at me with a bored look on his face, he nods his head.
"Our bedroom." he confirms
"I-I can't s-sleep with y-you." I stutter out.
Rolling his eyes, he angrily growls out, "Why?"
"I d-don't know you, Alpha. You shot m-me. I d-don't trust you." I utter.
An unknown expression crosses over his face, before quickly being replaced with a look of anger.
"I don't care what you say. I don't care what you do. I don't care how much you hate me. Hell, I don't even care about you, but you will sleep in the same room as me. There is no getting out of it. You sleep somewhere else or you move from that bed without my permission, I will make damn sure you regret it. Understand?" he snaps.
"A-alpha-" I start.
"Do not call me Alpha. I am not your Alpha. Alex is my name. You call me anything else you will be punished. Do you understand?" he growls, his eyes turning black slightly.
Gulping, I quickly nod my head, turning towards the door he had just opened. He grabs a hold of my wrist, yanking me back to stand in front of him. The crutches go flying and I nearly fall to the ground if it wasn't for his tight grip on my wrist.
"Say it." he orders.
"I understand, Alp- Alex." I mutter.
"Good." he smirks, letting go of my wrist.
At the sudden unbalance, I collapse to the ground, wincing when my foot slams harshly onto the floor.
"Look around the room. Meet in me in the kitchen when you're done." he says, simply.
He turns to walk back down the hallway, but before he fully disappears he walks back over to me and crouches down beside me.
"You know what, let me help you move in." he whispers in my ear.
My eyebrows furrow in confusion at his sudden compassion as he rises to his full height with a smirk on his face. Leaning down, he grabs the crutches by my feet and places them inside the bedroom a few feet away.
"Now you're officially moved in, sweetheart." he chuckles, as he walks around the corner and away from me.
"I hate you!" I scream, the sudden anger flooding my body.
"I hate you too, sweetheart." he yells back.
A scream of frustration leaves my lips as I slam my fists to the ground.
"How I'm i suppose to get over there now?"
