Nathan's disbelief was obvious by the look on his face. He stared up at the young woman in front of him as though she had gone crazy. Just a few weeks ago, she was clamoring about him signing the divorce settlement, and now, she stated she wanted to be with him. That she no longer wanted to go through with the divorce.
Ashley stared at the man with a resolute gaze. She held his face between her hands and stared deep into his eyes. "I'm serious, Nathan. Forget what I said before. I was being stupid then. My words now are the most important."
Nathan grabbed onto her hands which were on his face and pulled them away slowly. "You don't need to do this because you feel indebted to me." In conclusion, Nathan believed Ashley was only saying this because she felt obligated to stay with him after he had rescued her from Simon's dingy apartment. He assumed the young woman wanted to reciprocate his actions by not going through the divorce which he was so against.
