Alex's POV
"Make sure to take easy for a while". The medical staff in white said to me.
I woke up a few hours after Arnolds withdrew his aura. "Yeah, I will." I stood up and started wearing my shirt.
I looked round the health bay, there were countless people in here. What was that bastard thinking. A lot of the staff were hospitalized.
The unawakened basically died immediately, while the lower rank awakened like me were injured badly. The mid rank and high rankers were only slightly injured.
But I guess he's not all that stupid. Neither Silas nor Isabel were harmed by his aura. Meaning he either gave them an artifact to protect them or he excluded them.
Anyway, the point is whatever he did for them, he obviously didn't do for me. Well I guess since I'm no longer of House Morningstar, he doesn't have to protect me huh.
But still, what could've pissed Arnolds off to the point he'd just release his aura on the entire mansion.
Huh?
*Wail*
I turned as I heard the sound of people wailing. Most likely relatives or friends of the ones who died.
I soon found the source of the wailing. A group of people each around a corpse. Some hugging the corpse tightly as they cried.
*Clench*
For some reason, I felt really pissed. How could he be so careless. So reckless. While his aura wouldn't kill the strong awakened, did he forget that there were non awakened in the mansion.
Huuuuu.
Anyway, how is it that there are still those willing to work for him. How have they not rebelled yet.
Oh wait. Right, I almost forgot. Arnolds was one of the strongest mages on the continent.
And as a Duke of one of the two most dominant empires in the southern continent , there wasn't much they could do.
Even the royal family try to handle matters regarding House Morningstar with caution. That's just how powerful and influential the Morningstars were.
Anyway I should head inside the mansion. As I was walking inside the mansion, I came across two people I didn't really want to see.
Silas and Isabel. Silas glared at me with clear hatred and mockery in his eyes.
While Isabel's expression was still unreadable. She just stared at me as I walked by with her ocean blue eyes.
I ignored both of them and simply went up to my room.
Huuuuuuu.
I breathe out and sighed. I then proceeded to walk towards the balcony attached to the room.
And although I was unsure before, I am now. I need to get the hell out of here. Now you must be wondering why I would want to leave.
Simple. One; because of my unique skill [Devour]. It lets me absorb a portion of my enemies power. Down side is, they have to be dead.
Why didn't I just absorb the fallen servants outside. Because there were too many prying eyes. And I don't think Lucas told anyone about his unique skill.
Hell, I don't think he even knew he had a unique skill. Also the servants who died were mostly unawakened, so it'd be pointless to use it on them.
So I need to venture out into the world and fight opponents on my level and grow stronger faster.
And two; might as well just check if the Truth seeker fruit is already where the protagonist is supposed to find it in the future.
And based on my plans. It would seem my destination has already been decided. Erantel, the port city, in the Sapin Kingdom.
And my departure date is two months from now. On May 3rd 2070 AC.
*************
A city laid in ruins, a desolate expanse of rubble and ash that stretched as far as the eye could see.
The once magnificent infrastructures now nothing but than debris.
It's once majestic skyscrapers now stood as twisted, shattered monoliths, their steel beams tangled and torn like the limbs of some giant.
The streets were choked with debris, the pavement destroyed, and the building facades reduced to jagged concrete teeth.
The bodies of the dead littered around in their thousands. Everywhere, the remnants of the lives stolen, lay scattered, abandoned, and broken.
At the center of this desolate wasteland that was once a city, were two figures.
One of them was pinned to a building with a sword in his chest. He had silver hair and blue eyes. Although those once bright eyes were now almost devoid of life.
*COUGH* *COUGH* *Wheeze*
He could out heavily with blood in the mix. He was missing an arm and a leg. Part of his face had also been burned.
"You should've just given up, guardian." His opponent spoke from opposite him.
*Grit*
The guardian grit his teeth as he raised his head to look at the man who spoke. He had black hair, and amethyst colored eyes.
He wore black battle robes, he had ancient rune marks on his skin. He gave off a despairing aura.
In his hand was a lean sword with a translucent teal hue and a black handle. It was lean like a rapier but had cutting edges suitable for slicing.
"Yo-" *COUGH COUGH*. The guardian tried to speak but he coughed violently instead. It seemed like the blade had pierced through his lungs.
The black haired figure walked closer to the guardian and whispered in his ear in a mocking tone "You failed guardian. They're all dead" as he said that he raised his hands pointing all over the city.
"All because you were too weak to save them."
"YOU BASTARD. DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE END OF THIS?! YOU WILL FACE HEAVEN'S WRATH FOR THI-".
As the guardian was speaking, the black haired figure grabbed his face and said in a teasing voice.
"Ay and that's enough of that." And then rather than being killed, the guardian's body started turning black. With ancient runes similar to the black figure's began appearing.
"Argh. Aah. AAAAAAHHHHHH"
What started out as a light whimper, turned into a blood curdling scream.
His body was soon wrapped up by the black energy coming out of the black haired figure's hand.
As soon as the guardian was wrapped up, he removed his hand and looked around at the city now turned wasteland.
Despite the untold destruction, he and his forces wrecked upon the city, he simply put his hand in his pockets and mouthed silently.
"May Chaos bring Order."
