Chapter 34 - The Confrontation

Kate was livid and Anna was pleased with her reaction. But she took off her gloves and went into the house, with Kate following hesitantly.

Kate put her suitcase on the table and looked determinedly at Anna.

"I know how it might have seemed, me going into Adam's room, but this is my personal life, and I don't mix personal matters with professional ones. The fact that I went out with Adam doesn't interfere with my professional ethics."

 "Yes, it does."

 "Anna, your suspicion is offensive."

"So, I think I've achieved my goal."

"You can't be... You're kidding, right?"

 "No."

"That's a very bad feeling, Anna."

 "So is being betrayed."

 "I didn't betray you..."

Anna picked up a glass and filled it with water and began to drink quietly.

"I don't trust you, Kate. Tell me what you've come for and leave me alone. It'll be better for both of us if we never meet again."

"Adam blackmailed you into not accepting your inheritance. I need to know, because I can guarantee your safety. Allister has planned something much better for you, but I need Adam to contest the will and if you donate..."

"I've accepted the inheritance. And I'll give it to whoever I want."

"Then give it to your father."

Anna looked haunted at Kate. Did everyone know about her life? Why was that woman talking about her father? This had to be Adam's test, and she wouldn't fall into a trap.

"I don't need to justify my choices to you."

"Anna... Suzy is willing to sacrifice herself for you. Will you allow it?"

 "Will she take my place?"

"She's read Allister's second will and wishes her late husband's last wishes to be carried out. And Adam can be very cruel to those who defy him."

"So it's not me she's sacrificing herself for."

Kate looked at her sadly and took out a document and a pen from her briefcase.

"This is the document where you donate everything to Adam..."

Anna put down her glass and took the papers and pen from her hand before she had finished speaking, signed them all without stopping to read and handed them back.

 "Anything else, Kate?"

"I hope you'll change your mind. There's still time for that. Allister made sure of that..."

 Anna looked at her interestedly.

"If I ever change my mind, you won't be the one to represent me."

 Kate shook her head.

"Adam won't reward you for doing everything he wants. You'll wish you were dead when you discover his plans for you, and maybe on that day, you'll have no way out."

 Anna smiled.

"To be the bitch of all the men in the family?"

Kate opened her mouth in astonishment, but said nothing.

"Yes. I added two and two together, Kate. I'm not illiterate. And you and they may think this is the worst thing that's ever happened to me, but you'll be surprised. I'm going to get even with you one by one. And I'll smile when you find out that I'm the worst thing that ever happened to you."

"I'm not the one who condemned you to this fate. You have no reason to take revenge on me."

"You betrayed the man I loved. That's enough."

"Why did I lie with Adam? Tell me, Anna, that never crossed your mind? Adam, handsome, young, fragrant, tall, strong, perfect... Don't be a hypocrite! You're jealous of him. All your anger isn't motivated by some sense of loyalty to Allister, who isn't here to see and support you. You want Adam to lie with you, right? You've done it. You've ensured that he frequents your bed by signing these documents, but I'll tell you what "products" they use in a... Not very traditional. Allister did everything to make sure you weren't one of those women. I don't know what Adam told you, but know that you're not protecting anyone. Your father escaped a few months ago and is in a safe place. They can't harm him. But I know that this information doesn't change your decision at all, because you want to feel Adam's penis tearing you apart, and you know that he won't do that until you become a "product", because you're smart. You already know how to add two plus two." Kate said and threw the document into her briefcase and stormed out.

Anna was paralyzed. Maybe Kate was right. Unconsciously, she must have been craving it all, to have Adam for herself, now she was really confused about her feelings. Adam was a virile man, and she thought about sex for a long time. Her hormones heated up her intimate parts, which were filled with desire... How much of that could be interfering with her actions?... Was her father free? That changed everything, yes! But what could she do now? Adam had said that Ryan wanted to ask her to marry him. Now, she needed to make it happen as quickly as possible. Keep Adam satisfied, and on the day of the wedding, then she would run away. There was no longer any reason for her to fear reprisals from her father for her actions.

There was hope. At a wedding full of guests, she could take refuge in a bathroom, change, put on a wig and sunglasses, and leave as if she were just another guest, but for that, she would need allies. It wouldn't be an easy task, but she needed to think carefully about all her options, which weren't many, but which could lead to lethal and painful consequences. Adam was not a forgiving man. She remembered hearing the maids talking about how he ruled everyone around him with an iron fist in the house he lived in with All. Adam was a cold, cruel killer.

Anna spent the day trying to ignore the fact that her father was free and not looking for her, while she listened to Ryan singing out of tune and playing a guitar as if he were listening to a Fred Mercury song. He seemed pleased with the smile she kept on her face, pretending to enjoy it. They were in the kitchen and she could see the men dressed in black casting disapproving glances at the talent Ryan believed he had, which made Anna smile inwardly and think that it was good for Ryan that he didn't need to sing to survive, because he wouldn't earn enough to have a coffee. Or maybe he would. People would pay him to save them from hearing his out-of-tune voice.
