Chapter 16 - Kill or Leave?

Bai Meiyue's smile turned a degree soft.

She glanced at the woman behind the reception and advised her, "If I were you, I would do something about this jammed door." As for whether the secretary would take her words to heart or not, Bai Meiyue didn't pay any attention to it.

As an onlooker who no longer had anything to do with this company, the only thing she could do was to give a light-hearted warning. Whether to take it or not depends on the person. The only reason she advised the woman to get the jammed door to open was because even though her heart had long gone cold, she hadn't lost all of her humanity.

When she was running around looking for her son, there were many who wanted to take advantage of her but there were also many who were willing to help her. Thus, Bai Meiyue hadn't turned completely inhuman yet.

The end of the world was inevitable. Bai Meiyue had no power to stop it, nor could she save everyone. The least she could do was to ask others to leave an escape route for themselves.

She reached Lu Ling's office when Bai Meiyue was lost in her thoughts. Seeing that she had arrived, she raised her hand and knocked on the door.

"Come in," a muffled voice came from inside the office, and Bai Meiyue noticed the annoyance and anger dripping from the voice. She curled her lips in a cold sneer before pushing the door open and sauntering inside the room.

"It seems to be getting more and more difficult to meet with you, CEO Lu," she casually remarked before sitting down on the chair in front of Lu Ling. "I thought that after using me and my popularity as a stepping stone, the least you will do is to thank me. It seems like I was too optimistic."

Lu Ling was a middle-aged man in his thirties, but he had maintained himself properly, so he looked like he was in his twenties. However, at that moment when his jowels were quivering while glaring at Bai Meiyue, he seemed to be looking older than his age.

"Bai Meiyue, what do you want? Have you forgotten that I am your boss?" Lu Ling roared at Bai Meiyue. He couldn't believe that an eighteen-year-old woman was threatening him.

Never—not once in his life—was he treated in this way.

Bai Meiyue pulled away. She looked down at the drops of spit on the table and frowned.

Should she just kill him?

Bai Meiyue was indeed tempted. In her past life, she once ran into Lu Ling. Back then, she had hoped that this man would help her because of the relationship that the two shared? The result was that this man tried to knock her unconscious and sell her to an elderly man as his wife.

Fortunately, she was on the verge of awakening and somehow managed to get away from the grasps of that man. As this man was worried that she would kill him, Lu Ling hid quite well and never appeared in front of her.

Now that the real thing was sitting in front of her, it was already bad enough that she was trying her best to restrain her murderous intent, and yet this man had the audacity to spit on her?

However, two seconds later she calmed down. Lu Ling still had some use; she couldn't kill him yet.

The reason she came here to see Lu Ling was not because she wanted to avenge herself. But because she wanted to get this man to loosen his pockets.

Bai Meiyue had a very good idea about the rental properties. In her past life, when doomsday arrived, the first disaster that struck the world was a tsunami.

It was a terrifying time. Not only did the buildings crumble under the impact of the gigantic wave, the entire city ended up being submerged in water for months.

And it was this disaster that led to the zombie virus spreading all over the nation and the world. Some said that it was due to the radioactive elements being dumped in the ocean, while others said that it was a kind of mutation.

No one could give any explanation regarding this situation; there were only numerous possibilities and theories.

Bai Meiyue didn't have a reason to pay attention to these theories in the past, and she didn't have a reason to do so in this life either. The only thing she cared about was how to survive the upcoming disaster.

Living in the urban area was dangerous as the area was densely populated, and she couldn't stay in the suburb either. As the houses there were the first to be submerged in water.

One of the regions that were not impacted by the tsunami was the new project called the Sunshine Deluxe Apartment. It was a luxury apartment with multiple penthouses built inside of it.

It was one of the few buildings that could withstand the impact of the tsunami, as by the time the wave reached it–its momentum slowed down quite a bit.

However, a single apartment in that building costs 290 million yuan. Bai Meiyue didn't have that much money, and even renting out an apartment would cost her 100 million.

She did not have that much money in her hands!

If she used the money given by Lei Qian to buy the penthouse, how would she buy the resources to sustain herself in the apocalypse?

Thus, Lu Ling's survival was very important. After all, he, as her ATM, could only hand her the money if he was breathing.

"I do remember that you are my boss, CEO Lu," Bai Meiyue stated in a cold voice. "The one who forgot was you; if you remembered that you were my boss, then you would have at least tried to keep me out of the crux of the storm and not used it to boost the popularity of the new joinees."

"Bai Meiyue—"

"Save it," Bai Meiyue said to the man. "I am not here to listen to your excuses, nor am I interested in it." She then held her hand in front of her and said to the man, "580 million yuan, for the mental as well as the physical trauma, you made me face."
