Chapter 17 - Snap out of it

In to time, Brooklyn was taken into police custody. Felix was escorted to the Emergency Room to remove the bullet in his right shoulder.

Meanwhile, at the police station, despite the detectives' efforts to get Brooklyn to give her statement, she wouldn't budge.

Brooklyn spent about 3 hours in police custody before Felix's lawyers came to the rescue in the interrogation room.

"Our client, Mr Felix Easton has given his statement which clearly shows that he's not pressing any charges towards his wife, Brooklyn Lemington Easton."

The two detectives looked at each other in disbelief. Soon after, the Police Commissioner called to have Brooklyn released right away. Despite their reluctance, they had no choice but to release Brooklyn.

As soon as Dave parked the Black Lexus, Brooklyn quickly stepped out of the car and made her way to her bedroom. She didn't waste time but went to pack two suitcases of her belongings. Although, a lot more remained in her walk-in closet.

Knock knock.

"He's calling for you. In his study." Nia explained when she stepped through Brooklyn's door.

"Great." She replied just as she was done with packing.

Brooklyn carried with her the two suitcases as she walked in Felix's study.

"You called for me?"

Dante stopped whatever report he was giving Felix. He gave his two bosses the needed privacy, closing the door to the study on his way out.

Felix clenched his eyes in pain when he moved his right shoulder.

"So, we both have wounded arms. What a coincidence." Brooklyn made a joke of their situation.

Seeing that Felix wasn't saying anything, she expectantly stared at him.

"What?" Felix asked.

"Where are they?"

"Who?"

"The rehab workers that'll take me out of here? Duh." Brooklyn said as a matter of fact, happy in fact.

Felix scroweld in confusion, not understanding what she was talking about. "Who said anything about you going to rehab?"

Brooklyn opened her mouth to speak but was quickly cut off.

"Dante!" Felix called out.

Dante who was just outside the door made his entrance. He understood and acted on Felix's gesture to return Brooklyn's two suitcases back to her room upstairs.

"Just what are you doing?" Brooklyn was upset, glaring down at Felix.

Felix sighed. "What're you not understanding wifey? You aren't going back to that hellhole. Not on my watch."

Brooklyn scoffed. "Why do you always have to ruin everything? You never let me do what I want!"

"If it's dangerous, then yes. I won't allow you to hurt yourself intentionally."

Brooklyn was taken aback, not expecting him to say that. "Why can't you just let me go?"

Felix got up from his chair and stood in front of Brooklyn. "We vowed to remain together through thick and thin."

"Will you snap out of it?" Brooklyn wryly chuckled. "Why are you being a hypocrite by acting like you're not bothered that your wife is a drug addict?"

Felix sighed, letting his left hand fall on his side. "Fine. We'll go our separate ways and divorce. Just as you wish."

Brooklyn's eyes sparkled in excitement. "Only when you don't end up falling in love with me."

"What?" Brooklyn's disgusted face said it all.
