Chapter 5 - Under Avesodiorem

"No!" Amanai cried, rejecting the offer of the grotesque lords of hell, with his chin raised and his fists clenched, he steeled himself for whatever was to come.

"Very well then." The fat ugly one responded.

"We can't keep you here if you won't become our herald, you'll serve the netherworld in other ways."

Amanai didn't like the ease in its voice, and he felt a chill run down his spine in that moment. It seemed like the lords of hell were limited in power and authority, even in their domain, they couldn't force Amanai to be their herald at least.

'What other ways?' Amanai was wary, but there was nothing he could do. He couldn't fight the lords of hell, he might be overflowing with spiritual energy, but they had as much and they were in their domain.

One of the unspoken rules of fighting an enemy as strong as one was was to never fight them in their place of power, you were bound to lose, and there was the problem of tapping into his power without a physical body to channel it.

Amanai just couldn't even if he wanted to.

"Come Avesodiorem!" The metal bar looking demon lord cried, his voice loud and reverberating.

If Amanai still had a human body, he was certain that he would be drenched in sweat.

He felt the air, the surrounding change, he glared at the writhing faces on the ground trying to comport himself.

'I will not break nor bend.' he repeated in his mind like a mantra.

Amanai hadn't thought to look above since his arrival, but his attention was pulled to it, as a gargantuan machine fell from hell's red skies and descended.

The red clouds parted, and it came with the tremor and gravitas of a lord of hell.

It was a massive thing of rusty brown with giant gears spinning and large metal parts. It came down like a lord comparable to those who sat.

Amanai's eyes remained widened as it descended, and then the unholy thing stopped.

The thing was almost cylindrical though gears and metal parts jutted from its sides, and then up above was its top that was like a giant flat metal cap.

It had a red mist to it that almost seemed like residue of its previous use.

It came with a strange loud cranking noise of gears spinning and parts moving.

Amanai was shocked and amazed, he had never seen anything this sophisticated in his time travelling the continent. Metal overlapping metal, beating each other and yet attached that almost every part seemed indispensable.

Amanai was both shocked and amazed. However, they had called this machine for him, what was it to do?

Avesodiorem seemed like a living creature, one on equal standing with those that called it, yet it was only a machine, a machine called to do a bidding.

It stopped, meters away from Amanai, and hanging in the sky above awaiting instructions.

There was only one thing it was for.

The fat lord that its skin appeared to want to split and spill the contents it held slowly stood and stared at Amanai.

It was large, and tall. Amanai was an insect before it. He swallowed, not sure where to place his attention.

His eyes caught sight of the gnarly thing between the creatures legs. A small but present phallic thing that leaked a green pus, it was revolting and Amanai fought to take his mind off from it.

"Amanai, Son of Ruk!" Its voice loud and billowing threatened to sweep Amanai away.

Amanai had to strengthen his footing and raise his arm to his face to abate the pressure that came at him from the creature's jaws.

"You have refused to become our herald, but your place isn't here, your place is with Avesodiorem. You shall be ground, and what forms of you shall be used for our cause."

"Such potent spiritual energy." The hag monster said with voice that was slithery as a thousand snakes, then she crackled, beating her legs.

"Avesodiorem, take him!"

"Hmmm!" Amanai turned his head above, and saw as red light burst from the center of the machine and struck him.

Searing pain went across Amanai's body threatening to undo him. It was like a hundred suns focused on him and wanted to rend him. He screamed.

The lords of the netherworld smiled to his wails and they watched as the engulfing beam levitated Amanai to the machine.

The burst of light shrank to nothing once it got Amanai into position, a transparent glass ball.

Amanai lay there, his body steaming from the burst of energy that just went through him, the worst was yet to come.

Though his body and regalia appeared to be unharmed, Amanai hyperventilated, opening his eyes widely with his lips shaking as if he were mumbling.

Not even the great uniter could handle all this pain, everyone, everything that came to hell would eventually break, he was no exception.

Parts of the giant machine moved, and gears began to speed up. The glass ball Amanai was placed in began to move and it positioned itself further within the machine.

Amanai was held and displayed like an insect, a test subject under the whims of cruel children.

He was exhausted, hurting and greatly thirsty. The light seemed like it suctioned the last bit of water from him.

Then the ball began to spin, it spun and spun, increasing its speed with every complete rotation, and soon Amanai's body was but a blur in there.

The lords watched earnestly, the hag laughed.

Another light came, green and thinner than the previous, and it covered the spinning ball with its light.

Amanai's body spun, the pain was insurmountable, he could feel what seemed like his flesh tearing apart.

His form began to come undone, spilling and melting into the machine. The light increased its power.

It seemed like this was the end to Amanai, an agonizing end to the great uniter.
