" Can I please sleep in your room tonight mother?. Even if it's for today?." His mother watched him carefully, fidgeting with his fingers. He couldn't look up at her, his eyes held down , staring at the floor.
She heaved a sigh. Bless sometimes had nightmares, and she knew he would always come to hid aid. Smiling lightly, she told him to climb into the bed.
" But.. it's only for tonight, after today..you won't be in my room , your father's coming back". She said turning her back to him.
Bless knew his mother was a bit softhearted when it comes to dealing with him. He never really cared about him, nor payed attention to his needs. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He silently prayed that his mother wouldn't find out about his inability to sleep peacefully.
The voices he heard before resurfaced again, driving him nearly mad. He tossed and tossed, finding it difficult to sleep, he opened his eyes which were now golden and quickly shut it, trying to get himself together, his mother now witnessing what was happening, called his name.
" Blessed!. Blessed!".
Bless was still trying so hard to get himself, his mother turned and held him making him bury his head into her chest, holding her firmly, making sure not to look up and met his mother's gaze.
" Bless??. Bless??tell me what is going on?". His mother asked in a soothing tone, stroking his back gently. Bless couldn't bring himself to tell her anything, which made her assure him that everything would be fine.
" Bless, trust me, you will feel better, it's just a nightmare right?. Trust me- I'm here alright?".
Bless nodded, still holding her firmly. He didn't want her to see his eyes, of which he had a feeling about that...
" Come on, don't feel sad anymore?. Momma's here for you okay?". He still nodded, not wanting to look up.
Clutching to his mother's side,he inhaled her scent that calmed him down, the scent of lavender mixed with sandalwoods. Noticing that he loved inhaling her scent, she gave out a hearty laugh.
" Do you know that your actions are kind of personal?...".
Bless quickly dislodged himself from his mother, trying to calm his nerves down. " I'm sorry, mom". He said in remorse.
" Don't do that again, or else, I might start to think that you're trying to take me away from your father, now go to bed, tomorrow's school ". She turned to the other side of the bed, Bless gave a slight chuckle and laid quietly on his own side of the bed.
' I just pray that whatever is going on, will stop so that I can sleep peacefully'. He prayed silently.
All through the night, he couldn't sleep, but was awake, till 5:39 am, when his eyelids were heavy with sleep, and he found himself drifting off to sleep.
*********
" Blessed!. Blessed Charis Ihedimma!". Bless heard his name, being called, he tossed and tossed, till he felt a hand across his cheeks, wincing in pain, and still feeling sleepy, he rubbed his eyes , looking up at his mother.
" Have you forgotten that today is Tuesday?... And you have school today!".
Bless really felt sleepy. He wondered why the day broke so early, now that he no longer experienced nightmares.
" Your hot water is ready for you, get up and quickly go and take your bath, remember, if that water gets cold... I will not allow you boil another one again, trust me,after all, do you give me money that I use to fill it?. Better, get up there now!".
And with that, he sprang to his feet, although he felt wobbly, still he got up and headed straight to his bathroom, to take his shower.
Right there in the bathroom, he ruminated over the things that happened in his life. The scary nightmares that he always had, plus his inability to sleep.
' What the hell is going on?. Am I possessed?.' He dispelled any thoughts of it, he believed that he wasn't bewitched, and had nothing with witchcraft.
Taking a quick shower, he came right out of the bathroom, dressed up and had his breakfast.
" Set to go mother?."
" Pay attention to your teachers and don't focus on girls". She warned.
"Sheesh!. I've never been interested in girls before!." He had one look at himself in the mirror and left for school. Today was the beginning of a bright new day for him, in school with his new hair cut, he walked to the streets with that thought.
