Ethan's gaze moved around the grainy security footage.
" Who was this guy ", he thought,
Maybe he could give him some answers since he seemed to be familiar with this symbol.
The hooded figure's deliberate strokes etched the Nimrod symbol into existence.
What was this guy doing?
"This guy's careful," Alex said, enhancing the image. " He knows our intentions and doesn't want to be seen. His face is obscured and there are no distinguishable features for us to be able to identify him with. He knows who we are "
Alex's last words sank deep into Ethan's soul.
Was it the figure?.
No, it couldn't be. He had always appeared in the dark, he always appeared to be all knowing, he definitely couldn't be the one.
But what if, just what if, there were other people in the picture that he didn't know about.
It all made sense now. The figure wasn't just talking about Julian, he was warning him from other people.
Lena leaned in, with voice barely above a whisper. "We're dealing with someone calculated."
" Very calculated ", Ethan responded.
Ethan, Lena and Alex ransacked the school library, unraveling the symbols true meaning. It had gotten darker about 6pm, but they hadn't noticed. The fluorescent lights had started to glow above.
Suddenly, Ethan felt the feeling that he had always felt, the feeling that he was being watched, the feeling that made chills run down his spine.
He glanced at Lena trying to inform her of his feeling but Lena was too crowded she couldn't read his expression.
Disappointed, Ethan silently gazed around, searching to see if this feeling he had was true. After Ethan had almost confirmed that the feeling he had was nothing but a lie, his eyes met a gaze. This gaze was delivered by pale blue eyes, and the only one he knew that had these eyes were Julian.
" J... J... Ju... Julian? ", Ethan stammered as he fell to the ground in fear.
Lena and Alex turned to see what Ethan was so freaked out about. And to their greatest surprise, it was JULIAN.
"Wha... What are y... you d... doing here? ",
Ethan stammered once more.
Lena and Alex didn't get why Ethan was so freaked out, it was just Julian. After all, he was their school mate.
Time had passed but they never noticed. It was now about 6:30pm and the school bell had rang long ago but they were too absorbed in researching.
Julian, the enigmatic newcomer, who had his own evil secrets creeped in, beside them, his pale blue eyes gleaming.
Ethan's instincts screamed warning.
Lena and Alex exchanged uneasy glances. Wondering why Ethan would be so cold to Julian. But wait, how did Julian know they were here? He was clearly hiding something.
"Leave us alone, Julian," Ethan warned.
Julian chuckled. Then, smiled
" Your curiosity intrigues me Ethan ", he said walking closer.
"Hide our research!!" Ethan demanded urgently. "He can't know what we've found out."
Lena swiftly gathered the papers and books on the desk, while Alex erased their digital trails.
Julian chuckled once more, disappearing into the stacks, as he immediately sensed that someone was coming.
" What! ", Alex exclaimed. " You guys never told me he had super powers?"
" He doesn't he is in some kind of society and the guy on the security footage is part of it too ", Ethan responded.
" That explains it. We have to leave now ", Lena said.
" Why? ", Ethan queried.
" Cuz someone is coming ", Lena said with a hint of fear in her voice. " I hear footsteps ".
It was Professor Johnson. He had always ensured everywhere was locked before he went home. He headed to check if the library had bin locked.
" It's Professor Johnson ", Alex whispered, assuring it wasn't a threat.
He opened the door and to his surprise he found the trio there enveloped in books.
" Alex, ... Lena, ... Ethan?", he said in disbelief. They had always been the students that stayed a bit longer in school but why where they hear till now.
" What are you guys doing here?!", he demanded. "
" We ..."
" Get out of here ", The Professor demanded.
Lena, Ethan and Alex rushed out leaving all research behind.
" What do we do now, I didn't write anything down ",
" We will be back tomorrow, forget about it for now ".
Alex said to Ethan will still running home.
Then it reached the juncture where Ethan and Lena had always parted.
They waved to themselves and went Thier seperate ways.
Just then, Julian reemerged, watching Ethan closely.
