Work, who said it was fun? Why did she decide to create her company again, when she could lazy around and have all her needs met. She wondered as she always did when work was becoming overwhelming.
Since the morning when she entered her office, she didn't step a foot out, having no time. The only thing helping her was knowing soon, the pressure would lessen. Just a week and plus to go.
A new week started, leaving behind him a bitter taste. Monday, the day she dread to come. Making her unable to enjoy her weekend because of the thoughts of what was waiting for her the next week. Today was the day of the dinner with Mr. Smith.
"Miss Stone, Mr. Smith is waiting for you," Jiang Yuyan informed her.
Standing by the door, she watched, an unbothered expression on, the mess on the table Ivy called bureau. Which she somehow managed to know where was what. Yuyan was impressed. More than that, intrigued, but on a different topic. Why was the she going out with the man who proposed to her? She had to know.
"Oh right!" Ivy exclaimed. She almost forgot about it. She dread it all the weekend and now that it was closed by, she let work overshadowed it in her mind. Why didn't you do such all the previous days? As she complained to herself, she stood up immediately at the announcement.
"Going some where?" Jiang Yuyan asked.
"Yeah, have dinner with Mr. Smith," she answered wearing her coat which was resting on her chair.
"Ivy, what are you doing?" Yuyan said dropping the secretary cap and wearing the friend one. She walked closer to the latter, deadly stare sent to her friend. Wanting to know the truth.
"Getting dressed?" She answered confused. Wasn't it obvious?
"No, what I meant is, what are you doing with Mr. Smith. Are you seriously considering marrying him?"
When Ivy told her about his proposition, they talked about it and they both concluded it was a bad idea. Why was Ivy going at a dinner with him out of the sudden.
"Yes, I am," Ivy answered truthfully. There were no needs to hide. After thoughtful consideration, the marriage was for the best. She needed it to assure her parents.
"What? Why? I don't get it." Why was she agreeing to it out of the sudden?
"You don't have to get it. It's my life, my decision," she said packing her phone and some papers in her hand bag. Bringing work home, something she was trying to learn not to do that anymore.
"Ivy, as your friend, I advise you not to do this. You are going to regrets it. Why are you even doing this? First that absurd announcement and next this? What's it all about?"
Ivy sighed and said nothing. Already tired of arguing every minute with everyone. Her parents isn't letting her breath and ask the same thing every time, she didn't have the time nor energy to do it with her.
"Ok, even so, why him? Can't you find someone better?" she asked instead, already knowing she won't get an answer to her previous question. She never got one.
"What do you have against him aside his age?" Ivy wondered. Why was she so against him.
"Aside his age? He has three big children, who would become steps children!? You are almost the same age and that's not talking about Jane who is the same age as you and also head over heels for you. How are you going to deal with it? And his marital status? Isn't he still married. And his age! Yes his age!! Too old. I know you know it all even if you want to turn blind eyes and the most important thing, why is his reasons for this?" it was Ivy only issue as well. The why.
"If only those, I'm going to talk to him about it. Problem solve," though she was certain he won't answer. She merely said it just to assure her.
"You are really going to marry someone you don't love? What is marriage without love?" Yuyan said defeated. Her words was bouncing back, not attaining her target. At Least, love would make it matter, or maybe not.
"Still marriage. Is that a shock to you? It's normal occurrence amount us you know. Marrying for benefits, it's what I'm going to do. It's far better than love, I promise you. At least, you are guaranteed to never be heart broken."
"And never be happy. Are you out of your mind ? Are you being serious?" how could she speaks so lightly about such a thing. Those it really didn't matter to her?
Now she thought about it, she never saw Ivy in love. In awe about a handsome man yes, but never in love. Wasn't she believing in love ?
"Totally. Marrying for benefits is far better than marrying for love. Maybe love has more happiness but is also the riskiest. What to do if love finish? Benefits would stay." Ivy explained her point. Trying to convince both of them. She would choose love over benefits every time of the day.
"Not certain," yuyan retorted.
"Benefits can also stop, can be loss. What happens when you don't more get what you enter the marriage for?"
"Go question. Time will tell. I have to go now." She said walking out.
What happened when the benefits stop? In her case, it could never. How she wished it could.
