Jadelyn's POV
From where I stood, I watched the men argue. The conversation they were having seemed to rile Romano up as he yelled in Italian.
At the end of the room, Mrs Callamore comforted the girl on the wedding gown.
This family was so funny
"Right?" Someone said, startling me. "I was just concurring to what you said"
Raising my eyebrow at him, I pointed. "I remember you from the other day"
"Luca" He introduced, stretching out his hand. I smiled before taking it.
"I didn't mean to say whatever I said, out loud" I laughed nervously. "I'm Jade...."
"Jadelyn. Like hell I'll forget your name. That's the only name Romano calls" He chuckled darkly, training his eyes on the men.
"I guess he was talking about ways to sell me off or kill me" I mean, why else would my name be on Romano's tongue?
"You'd be surprised" Luca smirked at me. "Today was supposed to be that date right?"
"I wouldn't call it a date. Romano, himself didn't call it one either" Rubbing my arms lightly, I said. "why are you here?"
"I'm that Dumbo's cousin" He nodded at Romano.
I raised the eyebrows in surprise. "Wow!"
"We used to fight a lot when we were little. I'm surprised he made me his Caporegime." Luca laughed, his eyes darted to the girl. "I heard Mrs Callamore brought the girl for Romano"
I didn't expect less from her. She's always doing the bringing of girls.
"I'd advice he just follow his parents order," I sighed
I was gradually getting tired of all these drama.
"Romano doesn't take orders from anyone. He's the head of the family currently and he earned it anyway. So, they should just let him have his way"
While he was talking, my eyes darted to Mrs Callamore and the girl. The girl seemed to say something to Mrs Callamore that made her eyes go wide. She began to rub her hands together, as if she was pleading with the girl.
Something wasn't right?
"Do you think someone is blackmailing Mrs Callamore?" I suddenly asked, my eyes still focused on them.
"Huh?" Luca followed my eyes to the direction they were pointed at. "Do you feel so?"
"I.. I don't know. She's just ... Uhh nevermind" I shook my head.
I was going to figure this out myself
"Is it about the huge amount of money she's been paying to some fuckers account? Don't worry, I know about it too" Luca nudged my shoulder with his
I played along, smiling. "Maybe she's sick?"
"Does she look sick to you?" He nodded at her. I looked her up and down, shaking my head at him. "Exactly. Romano is just not too focused on her much but I'm sure he'll get to the bottom of this"
"Right" I nodded.
I might beat him to this one. It was high time I used myself to do something good.
"Come here, Jadelyn" Romano roared from where he was standing, his icy glare on me.
"Good luck" Luca whispered, standing back.
Hurriedly, I walked up to him. He took my hand and raised it up, glaring at the 2 men and his father as he spoke. "Jadelyn is my Fianceé and that's my final decision!"
"Try me, Baby!" The girl on the wedding gown ran to where we stood, holding Romano's shoulder.
She wasn't scared
"Too desperate" Dropping my hands down gently, he swatted her hand off his shoulder forcefully. "I can't have such woman as my wife" He scoffed
The three men sighed, watching me closely. This made me feel uncomfortable as I shifted between feet.
"You'll like her if you get to know her." Mrs Callamore chimed in
"How dare you talk without my permission?" Mr Callamore sneered, glaring daggers at his wife.
"Sorry, My Lord" She said quickly, stepping back. She had a look of defeat on her face. When our eyes met, I swear, I could've almost died from the way she looked at me. Her eyes held pure disdain as she looked at me.
"Let's come to an agreement then" One of the men said. He wore glasses and was short. While, the other was tall and didn't wear glasses.
"Permit me to say something" The wedding girl said.
I just had to give her a name cos I didn't get her name.
"Speak once and never again until you leave" Mr Callamore said sternly.
"Romano, you don't need to love me. I know for a fact that love means weakness in this world. Let me do the loving while you just do your Mafia duty. I will be the best trophy wife for you and I will not cause you any trouble" The girl said softly.
I almost applauded her. However, someone beat me to it. Luca clapped from behind us, earning a death glare from everyone excluding me.
"Sorry. I wasn't supposed to clap?" He scratched the back of his neck.
"What's the agreement?" Romano averted his gaze back to his uncle, ignoring the girl.
I watched as the girl brought out her phone, tapping away furiously. In less than 2 minutes, Mrs Callamore's phone began to vibrate. She would occasionally mute it. Her hands were now trembling.
"I agree! We will get married and bring an heir soon. In less than a month" On hearing this, my head snapped over to Romano.
Was he kidding me?.
Heir? Who's producing an heir and for who?
"Less than a month then" The tall man without glasses said, nodding. "Agreed?"
"Agreed." They all chimed.
Immediately they agreed, Mrs Callamore stomped off acting like she was angry. I whispered into Romano's ear taking an excuse before following her out.
"Where are you?" I whispered to myself, walking quietly through the hallway.
As I drew nearer to a room, I heard her voice come out audibly. I made sure I hid myself by the door properly, stretching my ears well.
"I thought I could convince him to get married to her but he's just so stubborn" Mrs Callamore's voice came out clearly.
That should be about Romano.
"Please give me time. I'll convince my husband and I'll do anything for this to work." Her tone sounded pleading.
"No! Please, I beg you. This will work" She whisper yelled. "If my husband finds out about the truth, I'll be dead"
I knew she was hiding something.
She once had a secret affair and so he's trying to blackmail her into setting his daughter with Romano?
That's evil
"The truth about the child cannot come out please!"
Oh no!
