"You scared me there for a minute" Marco sighed, holding his chest
I narrowed my eyes outside looking around for the guards.
"They know I'm in here" Marco said, answering my unasked question. "Are you not happy to see me?"
"Marco, you shouldn't be here." I held the iron handle for support. I didn't want to come out of the pool yet because I had nothing but my bikinis on.
I should've taken Romano's advice. Speaking of the devil, where's he? He really left without coming after me?
"I thought you were happy to see me?" He crouched down to my level, showing off his teeth.
"Romano is going to be mad if he sees you here. I don't want ....."
"You worry about me a lot. I see, you haven't changed" He tapped the tip of my nose. Something he used to do back then. If it were those times, my cheek would've been flushed but I just stared at him blankly.
I wasn't even worried about him. I am worried about myself. How do I relay this message in a way that it won't hurt him?
"Marco..."
"You're turning white. Come out let's talk" He offered me his hand. I looked at my skin first. He wasn't lying, I was turning pale. I don't know if it was because I was scared of Romano walking in or just the water. Everywhere suddenly felt too cold.
"I need a towel" my voice came out small as I looked at his outstretched arm
"Oh come on. Are you shy?" Marco smirked at me.
Shy?
Hunnie, I'm trying to save us here. Imagine the rage we'd face if Romano walked in on me half naked, in front of another man.
"I can give you my shirt" Marco offered, his hand on the top button
"No!" Is he insane? "I'll come out" I groaned, pulling myself out of the water reluctantly.
I just needed some peace and quiet. Was that too much to ask?
"The ground would be slippery for you. Take my hands, baby girl" He tried again, stretching out his hands. Acting like I didn't see it, I stood. "Fuck, you grew so big"
I raised my eyebrow at Marco, confused. Following the direction of his eyes, I understood what he meant. Feeling all shy, I tried to move away from his gaze, losing my balance as I missed my footing.
"Ahhhh!" I yelled, waiting for the impact. It never came. I never landed my butt cheek on the floor, as expected.
"I got you, baby girl" Marco whispered, holding me so close to him. He stared at me with so much adoration. For a minute, I was lost in my thought.
I should be happy to be in his arms. I should feel home. I mean, I once use to feel safe in his arms, right? But something was missing. I wasn't feeling that anymore. If anything, I felt like he was invading my space.
"Did you see someone pass?" For a split second, it felt like I saw someone's shadow.
"No, but I saw something else flash in your eyes. You still feel it, right?" Marco smiled down at me, holding my hand to his chest.
"I... I got to go. I'm getting cold" I snatched my hands away greedily, moving out of his grip. "Thank you for... Uh... Saving me?" Laughing nervously, I ran up the stairs.
Shutting the door behind me, I rested my back on the door. "What's happening? Why's this happening?"
Shaking my head, not wanting to sulk anymore, I quickly changed into something suitable. The sound of my stomach growling made me go downstairs.
"Hi, Again" Marco said, smiling at me.
"Why are you still here? Do you have a death wish?" I folded my arms over my chest.
"I'm indestructible" He winked, pulling me with him
"Where are we - oh!" My sentence stopped halfway when I saw the dinning table. It was filled with a lot of take outs.
Food was the way to my heart. This man really knew his way around my heart. My food heart though. I don't think I still have a normal heart.
"Care to join me?" Marco said, pointing at the table.
I looked around, spotting few guards. They couldn't hide the glare they shot our way. I knew this was going to get to the Don. Do I really want to take this risk?
Fuck this
"Hell yeah!" I smiled, taking a seat
"Still have a soft spot for food, I see" He chuckled, opening a plate of food for me. "Mac and Cheese. Your favourite" He cooed, bringing it to my nose
"Hmmm!" I smiled, taking the plate from him. "Do you mind?"
"Go ahead! It's all for you" He nodded, taking a seat next to me.
Not wasting much time, I greedily stuffed my face with food. I was having the best time of my life currently. I really couldn't care less about anybody or any Don. At least, I'll serve any punishment with a stuffed stomach.
"I would try my best to break you out of here" Marco whispered. I almost missed what he said.
Holding my burger away from my mouth, I smiled sadly. "Save yourself the stress"
"Baby girl..." He held my free hand. "Don't lose hope, okay?"
"Hmm!" I moaned in response. I was getting comfortable with my position. That's what they didn't know.
"What do you say about owning a secret phone?" Marco whispered in my ears, making my eyes go wide
Coughing, I pointed at the water. After chugging down a good amount, I exhaled gently. "Sounds good but..."
"That's settled then. We could keep in touch" Marco clapped his hand together.
"Marco, I can't hide it from Romano. He'll smash it" I said.
"I'll get you another one then" He shrugged. "As long as you're happy"
Aww, I cooed in my heart.
I guess living in a dark hole, makes your heart dark. I almost forgot what it feels like to be genuinely looked after. What it feels like to be put in front.
I felt something hot roll down my cheek. I raised my hand to touch it. I was crying.
"Hey, hey, hey..." Marco said softly, leaning into me. "Don't do that, baby girl" He used his thumb to brush the tears off my cheek
"I..."
"I hope you guys are having a wonderful time" A firm, angry voice boomed, making me freeze.
